This is my 2nd Brother MFC printer, as it is a replacement for my original MFC 7820N that I purchased so long ago I'm not sure (at least 12, but maybe 15 years ago). So, needlessly to say I have high expectations for this unit as well. Setup was pretty straightforward, just follow the directions. I'm stoked and pleaded with the wireless printing, but still have to get scan features setup. I've noticed the print is light, but legible, perhaps it's a setting to save toner. Other than that it's relatively compact and attractive as printers go. Looking forward to many years together.

I replaced a laser jet printer with this. It is like welcome to the 21sr century. The printer is quick, scanning is easy. No problems and we’ve been printing almost every day.

Does everything I expect a Brother printer to do. Brothers are almost “plug and play” devices and when they finally die, they are economical to replace.

I have been very happy with this all in one Brother laser printer. It is a very easy set up and easier to scan into documents than the Canon all in one we had before.

Purchased this unit in a hurry when my current MFC died. This unit was one of only 2 units in stock that had fax and was MAC compatible. Glad it was as it was a breeze to setup. The front panel is very clear and easy to understand. Can print from iPhone/IOS directly which is nice. It is setup by default to print duplex which is good for all the misc documents I need to print. Unit is very fast and quiet. Have had no issues and now wish the old MFC had stop working long ago. Very good unit would buy again.

Copies, scans, obviously prints. I haven't faxed with it yet but am confident there will be no problems. The only downsides so far: The utilities that come with aren't worth installing. It works better interacting with the front panel directly. Then, the driver preferences can get a bit squirrelly. This has auto duplex printing, which was a must have for me. But I have to check the preferences periodically to ensure the printer hasn't reverted back to single-sided. All in all I'm quite happy though. Laser vs ink gives more permanance to printouts, duplex, scan, and eventually fax. All for a couple hundred bucks.

Durable, Practical & Economical - Best Choice

The MFC-L2740DW by Brother is a durable, yet economical all in one machine for all B&W printing, copying, faxing & scanning. Having a toner cartridge instead of ink cartridges that dry out quickly during periods of un-use, this middle of the line unit provides quality anytime printing. Brother includes very easy to set up instructions for both wired and wireless (air) connections, single or multi-workstation configurations, and supplies you with all the cables, cartridge, drum, etc. to get going. Works well with both Windows & Mac. The software provided easily converts your documents to PDF if you wish and gives you a document organization filing system which is also very easy to use. I have 2 of these units. One in my 18 wheeler truck for all my over the road truck-office needs and one at home so I don't have to move it back & forth when I have home-time. The unit in my truck is over 14 months old and is still working great.

This replaced an older Brother MFC unit that still worked. However, we need a wireless printer for our home office. The printer was easy to set up and we were able to connect with a variety of computers, Ipads and cellphones (Iphone and Android) without any problems. Printer has worked flawlessly with all devices.

I have owned several Brother Multi Function Printers in the past but had switched over to Samsung, but when I saw the price and the features of this printer I decided to migrate back to the Brother camp. I have not been disappointed. This machine is full of features, especially for scanning, which was one of my principal reasons for buying it. Set up was easy and it runs like a charm.

I purchased a HP 477 fnw prior to this and returned it within 3 days because it would not work. The HP drivers would not work well with my Windows 10 or something else was causing conflicts. I spent nearly 2 hours on the phone with customer support, and they even took control of my computer for 30 minutes only to be told it would get escalated and they would call me back. Needless to say, they didn't, I returned it, and purchased the Brother2740. I am so glad I did. Talk about easy. Plugged it in, ran the drivers, and immediately began scanning, copying, and printing with no hassle whatsoever. The copy quality appears solid for the pricepoint, and the scanning is certainly adequate for small jobs around the house. We are buying a house so we have had to print, scan, and copy multiple documents over the course of the past week and never once have I had any issues with this printer. Wifi setup was a breeze, and the layout on the touch screen is intuitive and easy to use. Not sure on the length of toner life as of yet, but so far so good.

My old printer died and I was sick of paying outlandish prices for the ink cartridges even though I hardly ever use both color and BW. Lasers print cost per page are less than a penny a page, while color/bw run closer to 7 cents a page. This Brother printer was easy to set up and hasn't skipped a beat since installation a month ago. Crisp, clean printer. Scans well, copies perfectly. Auto-feeder is wonderful. All in all, a great printer.

Purchased this to replace an aging inkjet that I'm tired of refilling ink all the time. The size and functions are perfect for home or small office use. The physical setup was easy, but getting everything connected up and the proper drivers installed could be more user-friendly. I'm pretty tech-savvy, so I didn't have a problem, but this is definitely not plug-and-play if you want to use the wireless features.

The main thing that sold me on this printer is that its top feeder can scan and copy double-sided papers, which is a must for any size business use. If you're looking for a printer for personal use only, and you don't expect to need a lot of double-sided scanning, you could get away with a cheaper Brother MFC model. With those models, you can scan double-sided, but I believe you do so by individually scanning each side of the paper on the glass, and the computer compiles the scans into one file. With this model, you can plop a stack of double-sided papers on the top feeder and it'll scan and/or copy them all for you in one pass. Another plus is that the ink cartridges are not terribly expensive for how much they yield. The only downsides I see to this printer thus far are that it can get pretty loud when printing, and though the features are great, it is still fairly pricey if you're only looking for simple personal use.

I have owned a Brother Printer (MFC-7820N, all in one printer) for over 5 years that I used daily and never had any problems, Unfortunately, it was time to replace the printer drum unit that would have cost over $100. Instead, I purchased a new Brother Printer MFC-2740DW, all in one printer (print, copy, scan, and fax) at Best Buy for less than $200. My new printer is super fast and creates sharp quality print copies and scan files.
