I was on a trip to New York and I've been there several times before and seen the tourist sites so many times, but this time I wanted to go with a decent glass in front of my camera. I have a relatively midrange camera, Canon T3i from a few years back and have been using the kit 18-55mm, and a separately purchased 55-250mm. They were good, decent, I got my wide angles and telephoto range taken care of. But I wanted that Red Ring. So I ante'd up and got this 16-35 L from a Best Buy somewhere between my home in another state and New York City. From the moment snapped it in place and snapped the first pic in the hotel room, I could immediately tell the difference in sharpness, even on the tiny screen behind the camera. This lens is worlds beyond the EF-S lenses I was using before. The auto-focus is quick, and the image stabilization is a must have for me, with shaky hands. One of the main things I wanted was the IS, that'll add a couple hundred dollars to the price of any L lens. It is a bit on the bulky side, bit its a great amount of glass inside. The build quality is magnificent and feels solid in your hands; the focus and zoom rings are very pleasant to spin. Of course this is a wide angle lens, better suited for landscapes etc, but I've kind of made it my go to, I don't care that its a wide angle, the photos just come out so much better than any other lens. BTW, I'm no photographer, but I like getting results, I know what I get into and I wouldn't spend $1K without understanding what I'm getting. It's a superior product. There's plenty of reviews of L lenses on the internet, video and written articles, so go have yourself a look, and don't just take my word for it.

I bought this lens as a replacement for a Canon 10-22mm f3.5/4.5 EF-S ultra wide zoom lens that I had faithfully used with an old Canon EOS 60D. The moment I upgraded to a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV dSLR body meant that I had no choice but to upgrade the lens as well as an EF-S lens is not compatible with the full-frame EOS 5D dSLR. What I've found is that this EF 16-35mm f/4L lens is worth every dollar for it. Pictures are crisp, and the ultra wide angle that it supports allows for me to capture landscape photography, which is the main reason why I use ultra-wide zoom lens. As a hobby photographer, this 16-35mm f/4L lens meets all my needs for an ultra-wide zoom lens for still landscape photography, and having its imager stabilizer feature, and an extra $1k in my wallet, is a worthy tradeoff than to go with its 16-35mm f/2.8L sibling. Highly recommended for any photographer, both amateur and professional, to add to his or her collection of lenses for landscape use.

I needed something to take on a 100 mile backpacking trek, keeping weight as low as possible, but being versatile enough to handle landscapes, group photos and even a potential astro shot. I had a super wide 14mm lens that was light but too wide for portraits, and carrying two lenses wasn't an option. Picked up this 16-35 f/4mm lens after deciding that I didn't need f/2.8 - most of my shots would be stopped down to f/6.3-f/11 anyway. Very happy with the results. Paired with a 5dIV , this lens took great shots. Focus was perfect, images nice and sharp, colors very decent and handled the 30Mp resolution of the 5dIV just fine. Camera + lens weighed less than 3lb - perfect for my needs. Robust lens too - survived several days of being carried on a peak design clip on a backpack strap, being dragged in dirt, and on rocks, and still works (and looks) perfect. Only minor niggle, a couple of times I didn't get the hood seated correctly and found some vignetting after. Totally user error though and easily avoided just by paying attention.

I was considering the Canon 16-35/2.8L but then found that the f/4 IS L lens was much sharper per Canon's MTF curves, and it's $500 cheaper. I love the 16mm on full frame for fun, super-wide, distorted images. Wide angles are never as sharp as normal or telephoto lenses but this lens delivers the level of sharpness I was looking for. You can read the license plate on my car in the attached picture which is pretty solid. With a 10% off Best Buy coupon code, Best Buy credit card credit plus Best Buy Elite Plus membership points, and a $100 Canon rebate, you can't beat the price. I hope to buy more lenses this way in the future.

Picked this lens up for a upcoming trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. I figure while waiting for wildlife take advantage and grab some landscape shots. It’s typical L series quality build but I was surprised at how little it weighs. When I was first looking at it I was a little worried about it being a F4 but using it on a tripod for landscape it’s no problem and the IS really helps for city shots when walking around without a tripod. Only giving it 4 stars because I just haven’t had it long enough to really be able to give it 5 but it so far has all the makings of a 5 Star lens like the 70-200 2.8 IS II.

I purchased this lens to fill out my camera kit before taking a european vacation this summer. I read a lot of reviews before settling on this lens. My goal was a lens that would be good for landscape shots and street photos as I walk around cities. This lens has stabilization ... great for low light shots in buildings like cathedrals and it has great resolution and low vignetting for landscape shots. This has been a big improvement over the 24-105mm L lens that came with my Canon 6D I love the fact that BestBuy stocks these high end lenses in a store local to me. The BestBuy return policy makes it easy to take it back if there is an issue and the price was the same as the on-line retailers.

For the price of this lens it is not lacking in quality. The build quality is amazing and it features a durable weather resistant body. I am using it on a 7D MK II and the focal length is perfect for both landscapes and full/partial body shots. In this price range there isn't really a better ultra wide zoom. The image quality is not lacking and the focus is both sharp and fast. The addition of IS means that it will be a great lens for anyone doing run and gun videography.

I purchased this lens in preparation for a vacation in Europe this summer. I was looking for a lens that would function for both indoor shots and landscapes. I am using this lens with a 6D and the photos I am getting a great! It also functions reasonably as a macro, having a close focus distance of 11" or so. The autofocus is quick and you can tweak it as needed.

I bought this lens almost 1 year ago and have had a lot of fun taking pictures of landscape and architecture. About 6 months ago, I actually dropped the lens when installing it on a camera body! I was so sure I had just destroyed the lens. But it came away with only a minor scratch and kept shooting great. This is an example of Canon's build quality. The lens can be a bit soft on the corner's which is to be expected with wide angle.

Lately the Airlines are making it a pain in the rear to carry too much gear, and since I travel to Europe a lot I've been looking at the 16-35 f/4L to help me leave my tripod at home. Canon did not disappoint! the 16-35 is Sharper than my older 17-40 and about the same size but with IS!!! needless to say I'm very pleased with my purchase and Glad I had special discounts from my Best Buys reward program!!!

This lens is ridiculously sharp, even on my 80D. I thought about buying the more expensive f2.8 version, but it’s only one stop better and doesn’t have image stabilization. This lens is priced well considering the quality your getting. I love it.

Bought this specifically for wedding landscape backdrops and large groups. It was an awesome lens when I had the ideal lighting, but it was a different story when lights were low or the sun went down. I ended up taking the lens back and getting the 2.8 version of this lens. I would recommend this lens, but depending on what type of photography you'd be doing.

This is my landscape lens, my make this room bigger lense, my get everyone in the picture lens, and my fun distortion lense. I really enjoy it...crisp pictures...everything stays in focus. The cons: focus can be a little sluggish and low light is not where this camera shines...but there are other lenses for that. I enjoy it...it is in my top 4 go to lenses.

OK, it's not true macro but it has a very short focus distance. This allows for macro like photography with a wide angle lens. At f4 the lens have nice bokeh still. Colors are great, very sharp across the zoom range, and build quality is top notch.

I had the Canon 17-40, and can tell you that this lens is considerably better. It is sharper in the center and corners with excellent control of (CA) Chromatic Aberration. This lens is fantastic for Landscape and Interiors, Its Image Stabilization works very good. I highly recommended. You won't be disappointed.

Only had it for a few weeks but really like the photos this lens produces. Maybe a 2.8 would be better for night photos. But if you are getting this lens for day or landscape photos it is great. For night, just do a longer shutter speed if you can to help make up the difference from the 2.8.

Love the canon L series lenses. Great craftsmanship. I had a canon 24-105mm f/4L lens and loved it. I purchased this lens as a backup and also to give me some more reach on the lower end of my photography. It is different than the 24-105 due to how the lens doesn't "telescope" in and out like most lenses but the lens changes within its own lens.

This lens was recommended to me by many people, and in many other sources it always gets very high reviews. The lens is very sharp, captures detail well and does a great job with capturing landscapes, which is something I want to work on this year. I can tell already that I am going to enjoy working with this lens.

After reading countless reviews and watching youtube videos, I finally decided to buy this instead of the 16-35 f2.8 iii, for the price of this lens (less than half the cost), it has image stabilization, ultrasonic motor, and incredible sharpness throughout aperture ranges. 10/10.
