Where to start? First of all, I purchased this laptop in order to work from home after I had back surgery. When I first purchased the laptop, I set it up with no issues, and then it sat for about 15 days while I prepared for surgery and recovered for a week. On April 10th, the laptop wont connect to WIFI and tells me "The intel wireless AC Adapter is experiencing driver or hardware related problems." So I googled it, but couldn't figure out what the problem was. Then I called Geek Squad at the Puyallup, WA location. I was told to bring it in as it needed to be replaced. I then went to the store and waited as the IT tech worked on the computer. After 20 minutes, after attempting to install updates and drivers, it still would not work. He swapped out the computer for a new one and I asked him to help me set it up. Afterwards, I leave and do some work from home for a few hours, Then I notice its almost dead on 3 %. I check different outlets to no avail. I called back Geek Squad and spoke to the same tech who helped me earlier. He said "Sometimes there's lemons," The laptop dies. I bring it back to best buy to geek squad and the same tech checks the adapter. He said he didn't think to check it earlier because it was brand new out of the box. This is my second time coming back to the store post-surgery. I was handed the charger I brought in earlier. I asked to speak to a manager and the IT tech said "hes just going to tell you the same thing I am." Excuse me? He said 'theyre all busy right now." Again, that's not what I asked. At this point I'm angry. The manager comes out and takes care of the situation and resolves the matter. Then I go home to plug the dead computer in and i will not move off the Dell screen. I wait and wait, restart it multiple times, and call Geek squad back. The same IT tech answers and tells me "we close in 5 minutes." So I have to race back up there. The manager attempts to fix the computer and cannot. At this point its after close and he tells me he will match the price for a comparable computer. I looks around, and he shows me a few models. Obviously I'm not choosing Dell (mind you I have only bought Dells since 2006) and he explains the Lenovo he wouldn't be able to match the price on. There were no other comparable options, and I ended up having to pay $400+ out of pocket for the difference because "it wouldn't let him do any better" for going back and forth to Best buy while being out of a computer. I filed a complaint this morning. I want to know why Dell is producing these laptops and shipping them into Best Buy. As one consumer, I should not have received 2 $1000 laptops and not been able to use them. I want a response from Dell, from BestBuy, and I want a refund for the $400+. This has only taken time away from my work and put myself at risk for another operation. Dell? BestBuy? I want a response as a consumer. NOBODY should have to go through what I went through.

I bought this laptop a couple of months ago and within a few days it started acting up. For a start it would take in excess of 20 mins for me to able to log in and use it. That worsened over time to until last wk when it took close to an hour after switch on to be able to run my programs. This includes the time am signing in. For some reason the laptop is very slow when it comes to loading it's kernel. This has slightly improved since yesterday when the system (or Dell) automatically carried out a "hard-disk repair". The sound system has issues with constant "electronic noise/interference" in the speakers. This started just over a month after I bought it and has persisted. And the phone mirroring function doesn't work that efficiently. The fan is also very noisy for this size of a laptop. I can't comfortably study with it running. Most laptops are far more quieter. The hardware it self is very sturdy, sleek and the touch screen works perfectly. Screen imagery is also excellent. Dell have done a good job on these. But at the end we need a good combination of operating system and hardware. Am also curios to know whether the anti-virus might be a source of some of these problems that relate to efficient loading/running of the operating system. I use Mc-Afee and planning to replace it and see if some of this might get better. I'd love to know what antivirus those experiencing related issues are running.

      Kivuva,

We're sorry that you've been having issues with your new Dell laptop. If you'd like to see if your computer can start up faster for you we'd recommend that you limit the number of programs that launch at start up:

      1. Close all open windows.
      2. Press CTRL + Shift + ESC key together on the keyboard.
      3. In the Task Manager window, click Startup tab.
      4. Select the program or application that you want to disable from loading during startup.
      5. Right-click and select Disable.
      6. Repeat Step 4 & 5 for all the programs or applications that you want to disable from loading during startup.
      7. Restart your PC.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2tSulGV.

If you'd like to see if there is an updated audio driver for your computer in order to improve your sound quality you can visit our Product Support Page here: https://dell.to/2rZ7Zlo.

You may be able to limit the fan noise on your computer by updating the BIOS: An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.

    Defective Product

I bought my first Dell Inspiron 17-7000 laptop early February 2019, which had to be returned immediately due to a misalignment of USB ports - couldn't plug in. Returned it, got a second one which went south within 2 weeks. The translucent circles behind the touchscreen became active without touching them and the only fix was a hard boot. What are the odds of purchasing 2 defective products of the same make/model within 2 weeks of each other? This laptop was sent to the Dell technical center. After a lot of haranguing, I finally received a replacement laptop on April 29th. I was without a laptop for close to 3 months. Dell is unwilling to re-set the warranty date to the date I received this replacement. Don't get it as this was a defective product. ZERO chance of user error. I do not recommend this product. I purchased 2 defective laptops, the technical support was clueless and the customer service was atrocious. Dell has to get their act together. This does not reflect well on them.

I purchased this laptop because of its features and having had very good luck with previous Dell 17" laptops. 17" laptops are not that easy to find, so I was looking forward to getting this machine home and set up. I had several problems with this laptop and ended up returning it. After unpacking it, I plugged in the AC charger, and it would not charge. I tried a different charger, and even a different outlet (on a different circuit), and it still would not charge. When I turned it on, the laptop went directly to a system analysis screen. It would go through most of the check and then freeze at 1 second left. In addition, the keyboard did not work correctly (press one letter, it would delay about 5 seconds then display 4 to 7 instances of the same character. Also, the touchpad would freeze and the mouse would not move. I returned the laptop the next day. Best Buy staff were excellent when I returned it and exchanged it for a different brand. (HP Envy 17M).

I purchased this model with a 2T harddrive...after about 60 days the hard drive went and had to be sent back to Dell. With the new drive it ran for another month then that drive crashed. After some negotiation with BB they sold me an SSD to replace drive but now Geek Squad was going to charge me $150 to reinstall the operating system....I opted for the total tech plan because this was not looking real positive. After the install the external port wasn't working for alternate displays. Online GS reinstalled the driver but still did not work. When I returned it to the store the GS manager did get it fixed and was puzzled by the display driver that was installed.....funny... because his department installed it. I gave this one star because that is as low as you can go....don't buy it if it does not have ssd. I would give GS about a D to this point.

I'm getting older, and figured a 17.3" laptop running at 1920 x 1080 would be easy to see, and I was right. You have to start with the display on this laptop... It's big, crisp and bright. No complaints. The keyboard is well spaced out and good key travel. Plenty of ports, even an SD card reader. A couple reasons for the 4 starts over 5. For the price it should come with an SSD. The intel Optane and 1TB hard drive isn't that bad, but when I installed a NvME SSD it really woke this laptop up. Another reason for the 4 stars is battery life, it's not that great. For me, this laptop can work as a desktop replacement. Due to its size and weight it's really not all that portable, but when you do take it with you, you'll be glad you have all that extra screen real estate.

`This is a powerful laptop with 1TB disk, i7 processor, and 16G RAM, but when I tried to hook it up to my internet service, I discovered it had no RJ45 port so either had to run on wifi only or use a USB-to-RJ45 adapter (I used Insignia's adapter, because it's 1G capable). My local router is able to deliver up to 1G on wifi, as well and all the other computers I have and my tablets and cell phones are ab le to use either the wifi or wired connection to my router and get several hundred MB bandwidth on wifi, but this new Dell would not go above or even up to 10MB down and only 8MB upload speed. After working with BestBuy geek squad, and updating windows and running a Dell factory update (actually several of both), it finally started working at the speeds desired and expected, but it should have done that out of the box.

I purchased brand new and within a week had to exchange because of crackling over speakers as well as through headphones. Could not watch youtube, prime, netflix, etc. without persistent crackling noises. Exchanged for another of the same laptop and same issue with this one within a week. Called for tech help and they to had no explanation or luck resolving the issue. After looking up my own troubleshooting online looks like many people have this problem with this laptop as well as the 15 inch. Very unfortunate because I love absolutely everything else about this laptop but have to return. YES all updates Dell suggested in the comments for others with the same problem where tried and did not do anything. Updates on a brand new laptop should not be needed anyways.

I do not understand why the trend is to go smaller with the screen/laptop size. This is amazing. I can have two windows open, which makes all the difference when drafting documents. Zero complaints. Works well, has been reliable so far. Is a little heavier, but not as heavy as you’d think with this giant screen. I use this for word processing, research, and email - don’t know anything about it’s video quality or need to use it to run big programs or anything. It’s just my work laptop, and I love it for that purpose. I love the idea that it can be folded over and be a tablet, but honestly for my purposes it’s kind of irrelevant. But it’s a fun idea and I like that when traveling or lounging it might be useful sometime.

The 14-day PC return policy creates an unnecessary panic to swiftly make a decision on "will this PC last?" ISSUE (#1) changing each laptop to tablet mode often created a quirky UNCONTROLLABLE access to the mouse or touchpad. The cursor arrow just fluttered uncontrollably while weird "spots" appeared like ghost fingers were accessing my touch screen. ISSUE (#2) Blue Screen on DAY 2. ISSUE (#3). This was not SSD like I asked to purchase. The HD makes a rattle sound like it is about kill over. ISSUE (#4) With no pattern or reason, sometimes the internal speakers sounded grainy almost like dust was trapped on the speaker cones. ISSUE (#5) Only surfing the web for 90 minutes (Best Buy actually), the laptop lost 50% of the battery charge perhaps due it being in high performance mode.

      RollTideRoll,

We're sorry to hear about the issues that your new computer gave you. We'd recommend re-calibrating the touchpad on your computer if the cursor was moving erratically: Some Notebooks and Tablets with Keyboards have added gesture features to the touchpad hardware and drivers. A few of these features are two or three finger scrolling, pinch zoom, circle zoom, rotate and swiping. These new features may be the reason for the erratic cursor movement since most are turned on by default. You can disable or modify the way the features work in the touchpad driver properties. Here are some tips to modify these settings:

      1. In the Search box, type main.cpl.
      2. Touch or click main.cpl in the list of programs.
      3. Touch or click the Dell Touchpad tab.
      4. Touch or click on the picture of the touchpad.
      5. Touch or click Gestures (depending on your computer there may not be a Gestures option).
      6. Change the options as preferred.
      7. Touch or click Save.
      8. Touch or click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Dell Touchpad Utility.
      9. Touch or click OK on the Mouse Properties window.
      10. If the touchpad still does not work after following the preceding steps, refer to Dell Knowledge Base article - http://dell.to/2iaiujA.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2tqmS02.

If you continue to experience Blue Screen Errors you can diagnose them with these steps:

      1. At the desktop, click the Search the web and Windows box and type "problem reports".
      2. Select View all problem reports to view a list of errors that have occurred on your computer and possible solutions for them, such as updating drivers, flashing your system BIOS, or checking for updates to the software.
      3. Under the Source column, look for Windows and under Summary, look for Shut down unexpectedly.
      4. Right-click the line item and select Check for a solution.

We'd also suggest checking to make sure that your software and drivers are up to date on Dell's Product Page - https://dell.to/2rZ7Zlo.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2u98Cct.

If you'd like to check to see if there is an updated driver to improve the sound quality of your speakers, you can check our Product Support Page here: https://dell.to/2rZ7Zlo.

Lastly, if you'd like to extend the battery life of your computer, here are some tips:

      Change the Power Plan:

      1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon.
      2. On the options list, click Power Options.
      3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.

      a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver.
      b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs.
      c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off.
      d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links.
      e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage.
      f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.

Great for graphics or architectural design as well as reading and editing music. What many don't get is that you pay for screen real estate ergonomics constantly hour after hour. To get it from one place to another in comparison....not that long. For high level engineering, graphics and architectural design and/or reading and editing music on the road where you don't have a second monitor this 2-in-1 is really the choice. Now for John Q maybe not so much..., squint on. Battery life, speed, stability of OS (yea it's still Windows) all okay. Visual ergonomics outstanding. Portability for what you get in return 5 also.

The description mentions gaming, but I'd think of this more as a high-end personal laptop than a low-end gaming laptop. The 1TB hard drive is a major plus, especially with how much space Windows 10 takes up these days. It has a sturdy build and good size, but don't expect to be able to chuck it around. I like the placement of the keys because they don't have the little gaps that food and dust can get in. The touchscreen is great, but if you use it a lot you'll have to regularly clean it. The screen bends back all the way, but this is more of a gimmick because the keys are exposed if you want to use it tablet-style. Overall, a high-quality, easy to use laptop with few drawbacks.

This laptop is really nice and I’ve only had it for a few days, so you’d think everything would be working perfectly! However, the audio/sound (whether you’ve got headphones in or not) crackles on and off. I tried almost all of the solutions people have shared on forums, and I even had a Dell tech assistant access my computer and try to resolve the issue, but nothing has worked out so far. Since I like the laptop so much, I’m gonna exchange it for a new one to see if the problem persists. If not for this defect, I would’ve rated it 5 stars.

Got this for home use and to run marine navigation software on. So far it has been great. Easy set up getting started, a little weird not having a CD-ROM but you can find almost everything you need online. Will probably invest in an external drive to load some other older software. Luckily I had all of my nav software already on an external drive. Had some issues getting the USB GPS to work but finally got the right drivers. Love the 17" screen and full number keypad. Page up/page down and arrow buttons could be a little bigger and more prominent for me but getting used to it. So far extremely satisfied with my purchase.

A big laptop for multitasking orient students and young professionals. I wanted to have the ability to use multiple documents on a screen larger than a 15.6 inch laptop—not to mention the touchscreen capability—while maintaining a certain level of computer processing speed. This laptop fits that criteria for the most part. Only down side to it is having a hard drive instead of a solid state, which has caused issues with performance and saving my data. Otherwise, having a 16 gb RAM without sarcifing screen size and astehtics makes it a pretty good laptop.

      Idmgz,

Thanks for your recent Dell purchase. We're sorry that it's not starting up the way you hoped it would. Here are some steps to try in order to get your computer started:

      1. If the computer is displaying the Dell logo and does not move past that point, it has probably failed POST.
      2. If the power indicator lights up and it is amber or orange, this is usually an indicator that it has failed POST.
      3. If you see text on a black screen, the computer is currently performing the POST. If the computer stays in that condition and does not move past it, it has probably failed POST.
      4. If the video screen displayed anything at all during the startup process but is now black, this probably indicates that the computer failed POST.
      5. If the computer is beeping or if Caps/Num/Scroll Locks are flashing, note if there is a particular pattern in which it beeps or flashes.
      6. If the computer is not beeping and caps/num/scroll locks are not flashing, unplug all connections and remove all media communication devices (e.g. external monitors); reconnect one at a time and check if the computer functions.
      7. For a notebook, press and hold the Fn key and then press the power button. This starts the pre-boot testing and will launch ePSA. In case you have a Desktop at the Dell logo screen tap the F12 key to enter One Time Boot Menu and use the arrow keys to highlight Diagnostics and press enter.

Computer works great for my small business. Love the large screen and graphics quality. However, soon after purchasing I discovered that the speakers were faulty and crackle when listening to anything even on a low volume. Unfortunately it is now past the 14day return policy and I would have to go through Dell to issue a return. Might be too much hassle so I'll hold on to it for now. Other than that, I give this computer a 10/10.

This computer seemed great a first, the screen is amazing! But there is a software issue, I have only had this computer for less than a month, and the sound quality is horrible. It is extremely fuzzy and cuts in and out. It is impossible to listen to music, watch a movie, or do anything with sound. I went to the store to try to fix it and they told me I had to send it out and it could take WEEKS and it might not even fix the problem. I have never been so disappointed in a purchase before.

I've been solely using Macs since 2003. I found out that Apple didn't make 17" laptops anymore. Once I got over the disappointment and trying some smaller screens, I decided to try the 17" Dell 2-in-1. The transition has not been bad at all. (I am forced to use a PC at work so I know my way around them.) I still don't think they're quite as user-friendly as a Mac, but for the $1,500 savings, I'll learn. So far so good--I'm glad I made this choice.
