    Amazing RPG remake

This is complete remake of Dragon Warrior VII that was released by Enix in late 2001 for the original PlayStation One. Dragon Warrior VII is the last game, of a long list of Dragon Warrior installments, to have the title Dragon Warrior in the U.S. After Enix and Squaresoft merged, the trademark for Dragon Quest in the U.S. was registered and subsequent releases were titled Dragon Quest. Dragon Quest is the original title for the series in Japan. I only bring this to your attention in case you played any of the original Dragon Warrior games on the NES, Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2, or the Dragon Quest remakes on Nintendo DS. Story: The story is comprised of a bunch of shorter stories that develop as you discover new islands from the past. This makes it nice for those who wish to play the game, or afforded time, only in small spurts. The game starts out with 3 main characters, a fisherman’s son (the protagonist), a prince named Kiefer, and a mayor’s daughter named Maribel who believe there to be life and adventure beyond their lone little island. They fall upon a mysterious shrine that unlocks lost islands from the past, by collecting magical stone tablets they find on their adventure. When you solve what problems plague each town in the past, it magically makes the island appear several years ahead in the present. You get to see the repercussions of your assistance in the past reflected in how they interpret and see things in the present. Your task is to travel the world, both past and present, for these lost shards and to bring these forgotten islands back to the present. Gameplay: I warn you, this game is VERY long; arguably one of the longest games there is. It will take over 100+ hours to finish this game, and much longer for those who are completionists. This can turn off some who only want to play a game for a short duration, such as 25 hours. One of the reasons this game took so long to localize to the U.S. is due to the enormous amount of text that has been retranslated and localized for its release. There is no voice-acting, meaning everything will be text-based; and there is a TON of text. So be prepared for a lot of reading. This game hasn’t deviated too much from its roots, despite being a remake. The battle system is a classic turn-based system: Attack, Defend, Magic, Item, etc. There is quite a bit of grinding involved (fighting monsters for experience, which levels up your character and makes them stronger). However, compared to its original version, the speed in which you level up is a lot faster. What makes the game shine is its character classes that unlock about 20 hours into the game. This allows you to learn new skills or spells, or increase specific attributes related to your chosen class. There are about 30 different classes to choose from and makes customization of your party your own. There are a number of puzzles to solve within each story which makes it a good balance between story, combat, and thinking. There is also a StreetPass system, where you can collect Traveler Tablets which can then be used to enter randomly generated dungeons filled with monsters and treasures. Overall Impression: I thoroughly enjoy this remake. This was one of my favorite games when it came out in 2001, and is reminiscent of my experiences back then. Some of the new features are welcome and help speed up the pace of game. If you enjoy role-playing games this would be highly recommended. I would suggest however that if this is a gift, you purchase it for someone at the age of 12-13 or up. There is a lot of text related to the story. This can make it difficult or discouraging for those that don’t have some of the vocabulary or comprehension to understand. Combat is turn-based style as well, which can be a turn off for youngsters who are more accustomed to fast-paced action styles more prominently seen in this genre. I feel the ESRB rating for this game is appropriate (Everyone 10+), although I must admit I don’t recall seeing any actual blood or reading any offensive language. This is a remake of Dragon Quest VII originally released for Playstation One. This remake comes with completely new graphic and art style. The music is also just as good and memorable as you expect it to be and the gameplay value, OMG, it's totally goes through the roof! This game will last you over 200 hours if you want every single things done! Of course, game that is this long needs to be backed up with fun game play and it does! The characters are fun and story is also very interesting. All I am gonna say is, if you are a die hard JRPG fan or simply looking for something to do on your long commute, give this game a chance. You are going to love it!

This games is AWESOME!! One of the best RPGs and games period on the 3DS. Although I'm not new to RPGs by any means, I am new to the Dragon Quest Series and this game has made me an instant fan. The story and battle system are great. The 3D graphics are also very good and are night and day compared to the PS1 system. The localization team did a fantastic job with this game. The game is very long as well so you will definitely get your moneys worth. Buy this game you will NOT be disappointed.

Finally after so many years Square Enix has started to bring Dragon Quest into the spotlight again. And what better way to do that than with a classic remade for the 3DS. DQ7 was originally on the PS1 and I never knew about it or got into the series tell 8 on the PS2 but this game looks beautiful, the colors and animations the music the cute little slimes you will kill to level up all here in full DQ glory. If you never had a chance to play this game on the PS1 then now is your chance all the improvments make this classic turn based jrpg look appealing for newcomers to the series and being that all DQ games are stand alones you won't be lost starting here. So what are you waiting for? Start the grand journey that is DQ7 those slimes won't kill themselves. ;)

Dragon Warrior series has always been known for a good story, fair music, decent graphics & vast exploration. A little more forgiving than games like Final Fantasy... & other series similar to its kind. This is a remake/revamp improvement by all means of a beloved classic. An overall decent game & welcoming to newcomers alike.

See I was trying to buy Dragon Quest 8 but I rushed it when I came to the store and got 7 instead . I was gonna return it but then I decided to check it out and slowly but surely this game caught my interest . What starts out as a slow sluggish start, eventually picks up the pace and keeps you engaged in the story and the combat . Not even halfway done with this but I know I'll take my time and complete this game.

the original dragon quest 7 had a monumental opening in japan as fans waited in long lines to purchase the game. at the time, this series was more popular than final fantasy because of its satisfying game mechanic and the complex and rich story. DQ7: fragments is a smaller version of the original but made for your rpg wants while on the go. the game plays beautifully and it is worth experiencing DQ7 all over again.

I have been a fan of the Dragon Quest series since Dragon Warrior Monsters on the Game Boy Color. I preferred the monsters games to the main series because the coolest thing in the series to me was the awesome monster designs from Akira Toriyama! Dragon quest vii is simply one of the best games ever made. A fun game with a charming story and over 70 hours of content to keep players busy for a long time to come.

DQVII is a perfect example of a game done right. Between the bright atmosphere, intriguing story-tell, fascinating characters and engaging music you feel absorbed and involved. The game is a little slow-paced at the start, but really makes you appreciate each step you take in your journey. Within just a few hours, you'll be hooked and have difficulty putting it down. I highly recommend this game for any JRPG fan.

Nostalgic and Classic. A must have play for Dragon Quest Fans and all of RPG Fans. Game play and story line is right on the dot and upcoming Dragon Quest VIII is also making its way over here. But honestly i played Dragon Quest VIII before this one but i found myself in love with the series and game play and characters. Its very unique and fun to play.

I wasn't going to get this game at first. However, I couldn't pass up DQ after seeing the launch trailer. Graphics as mid level for a 3DS game, but the game play is what matters to me ... and it has game play in abundance. Haven't finished the story yet, but so far it's a good story.

    Incredible Value, Great Remake

For those unacquainted with dragon quest 7, this is a remake of the original that had originally released on the playstation 1. Just like the original, this is still one of if not 'the' longest dragon-quest game in the entire series, where it isn't surprising to reach where the 'second disk' began, 50+ hours into it. Like the other modern entries, the game has made a 3d-overworld and has done away with random encounters in lieu of monsters popping up that you can run into for battle. For the most part, the game looks pretty great, and the combat is quite solid, so I highly recommend this game. If there were any downsides to Dragon Quest 7, it would be the sluggish prologue after starting a new game (which was much longer in the original) , and the rather ugly 'pop-up' of overworld features when traversing the map. But as both factors are relatively minor, I am happy to give this a 5-star rating.

This game was really fun to play and is quite a lengthy old school RPG. The setting and its characters are very engaging and the combat can get challenging at times. The story is pretty long (took me about 70 hours) since there is so much to do and explore.

I have a love/hate relationship with this game. Originally purchasing the PS1 version of the game on release day, I ended up losing my job the very next day—so the game was returned. A year later under better financial circumstances, I purchased the game again, logged 100 hours(!) into it, only to lose interest and move on to other things (probably Final Fantasy X, knowing me.) Now the 3DS version of the game is out, and it is markedly improved from the PS1 original. All new graphics and dialogue, 3DS online StreetPass functionality, a streamlined job system, and a blissfully shortened introductory chapter are all worth the price of admission. If you grew up on turn-based jRPGs like I did, and still love them for all their quirks, Dragon Quest VII is a solid entry and should not be missed!

Dragon Warrior VII is a great RPG. It has all the classic elements you're looking for including a great story, but the game is also one of the longer games you'll come across and is well worth devoting a good amount of time to.
