    Bought this item to replace a simple wall thermostat. This item has tons of features but is somewhat complex to set up to operate in a simple manner.

    Poor performing thermostat. Despite all attempts to program heat, the unit forces the furnace to constantly blow cold air, completely disregarding programmed or manual settings. Not what one is looking for in the middle of winter. Will be returning and getting another Nest (even though Nest isn’t that great either).

    This device works intermittently. Your device will call for heat from your furnace and it will blow cold air. If you contact Ecobee they will blame it on your furnace (even though the furnace will work fine if you put your old “dumb” thermostat back on). After searching online for a fix I found a bunch of people experiencing the exact same problems.

    My Ecobee 3 (with HomeKit) thermostat was defective and I replaced it with a new 3 Lite. I received virtually no customer support on my defective original unit and even less when I called them on issues with my new one. I would avoid Ecobee in the future and suggest you do as well. The remote sensors are essentially a gimmick that will simply take the temperature average, hardly worth the cost of the sensors IMHO.

    Does not Heat

    It seems that this thermostat will not maintain heat through the night. We call the support line and they took us through troubleshooting the setting and still waking up in a cold room. They sent a new thermostat and we installed that with them on the phone walking us through the process and the new thermostat did the same thing. I replaced it with a basic heat pump thermostat and it's working fine now. Stay Away!

    I ended up returning thus item ax it didn’t work with our heating system.

    No C wire, big problem

    The conversion device to get a C wire to power the unit was a pain in the neck, I got frustrated with it and ended up swapping to Nest even though I wanted a HomeKit thermostat. If you don’t have a C wire, know that you’ll have to do some wiring to make everything work.

    The feature to integrate with your utility provider which is necessary to get the rebate is completely broken. Support was unhelpful.

    The ecobee is always 2 degrees lower than what it is set at. My kids have complained that it is colder in our house since we installed it.

    It does the same thing as most of the competitors. I really wish Ecobee would make it easier to change the temp at the thermostat. It would be nice to have up/down arrows to adjust temp. I don’t like using that sliding dot to change the temp. A bit harder than it should be to just go up or down a couple degrees. I would recommend it if it stood out above the rest, but it doesn’t in my opinion.

    Not as cool as the nest. A bit more complicated to install than anticipated unless you already have a smart thermostat with the correct number and color of wires.

    Need additional installation if you don't have an AC you need a C wire that you needed an electrician to come in to hook up
