Alexa, Turn up the Heat!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchase the Ecobee 4 with Alexa when I puchased my house, My house already had a standard thermostat, with the help of the instructions that came in the package, I was able to install it myself. The instructions are nice and no need of an HVAC guy, although i would recommend getting one if you do not have faith on what you are doing. The Alexa feature is nice which i have tied with the Samsung Hub to control my lights. The initial set up for configuring Alexa might be frustrating, but once you get pass that, is smooth sailing getting your house warm or cool with your voice. The feature to be able to track and make a schedule for your house temperature is a plus, saves some money in the long since all i have to do is program it once to my work and home schedule. Cons. Alexa does come on at times when the Alexa commercials are on TV. so my kid already knows to say "STOP LISTENING!!"

Would be great if it played nice with other Alexa
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited to get our new Ecobee 4 installed in our new home, we've been happy Alexa users for a while now and the option to have an Alexa enabled smart thermostat was too cool to pass up. The thermostat itself works beautifully, and installed easily (the only difficulties I encountered were related to the... unique... wiring choices of the previous homeowners) with very clear instructions based on easy to follow criteria. The disappointing flaw, and it's a big one, is that the Ecobee (like other third party Alexa devices) is not able to make use of Amazon's Echo Spacial Perception which is what enables the Amazon devices to decide which one is talking to you if several of them hear you. So the Ecobee, mounted in our dining room, responds any time we speak to the Echo in our kitchen. In unpleasant stereo with the Echo in our kitchen. It's an Echo echo. There are a few workarounds - you can change the wake word on the Amazon devices to something other than "Alexa" (though the Ecobee cannot be changed, so if you liked talking to "Alexa" you're out of luck there) so that they have different prompts, you can mute the Ecobee (though that defeats the purpose of having onboard Alexa, and also produces an annoying red light) or you can just disconnect the Ecobee from your Alexa account, which is what I have done. Given that limitation, until the Ecobee (and other third party devices, this is not an isolated issue) can make use of the ESP, I would not recommend spending extra for the 4 over an Ecobee 3 without Alexa. I do LIKE the Ecobee, the thermostat functionality is spot on, but unless it will be your ONLY Alexa device in range, it's really not a useful Alexa device.

Love my Ecobee 4!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got my New Ecobee 4 with built in Amazon Alexa and very excited to share my experience with you all. First off I want to say I don’t know how I went this long not owning an Ecobee Thermostat. I have always had Nest in my home but after using the Ecobee 4 for a few weeks it’s a much better thermostat in my opinion. The new Ecobee 4 has a built-in speaker and mic for Alexa and surprisingly it was much louder than I thought it would be, and very clear. Just give Alexa a command and you get that familiar blue LED at the top of the Ecobee that it’s listening. Commands with Alexa on the Ecobee 4 seem to be even a touch faster than some of the other Echo’s in my home. Setup was a snap and this time around I set it to control my Humidifier as well. It also came with 1 sensor and I think the sensors are what really sets the Ecobee apart from other smart thermostats. I ended up getting an additional 2 sensors for a total of 3. The Ecobee 4 can be setup to follow you in the house based on sensor activity so if you travel from room to room the temp will adjust. These sensors are great and when added to a Smart Hub they can be used to trigger a flow based off motion or temperature. When I first setup the Ecobee 4 I entered my home , away, and sleep temp ranges and I haven’t touched it once to adjust, its doing a great job all on it’s own. The app is very easy to navigate and also they have an amazing dashboard on Ecobee’s website that allows you to get some great data history on usage. I added it to SmartThings and its working great and coming soon to Wink as well. Having the built in Amazon Alexa allowed me to have yet another room in my home that can be controlled by voice. Overall I am very impressed and I highly recommend getting one if you’re in the market. I have tried several smart thermostats in the past but the Ecobee by far offers the best features for the price especially now with the built-in Amazon Alexa. I have attached a few photos of my unboxing, and a video using Amazon Alexa!!

I wouldn't live without it
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the Ecobee. It was fairly easy to install, works great, and has helped lower my electricity bill. The Alexa function built in is useless though. I disabled it after one day. The Ecobee is much easier to set up and use than you may have read. Don't be intimidated. I live alone, so the ability to set the system to only utilize the temperature in the room I'm in is a fantastic feature. Also being able to easily set up schedules, change them as needed, and "preheat" or cool off the house if I leave work early is a game changer.

Love the external sensor!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We've been trying to decide for a while now on which smart thermostat we were going to upgrade to, and luckily our old Hunter thermostat decided to force the issue. We decided to give the Ecobee a try. I am VERY happy that we did since we don't have a 'C' wire running from our furnace to our thermostat, but Ecobee took care of that with a converter device that was easy to install in the furnace. The remote sensor turned out to be a HUGE plus for us since my wife has a home-based business, and the room that she works on clients in tends to be 2 degrees (or so) cooler in the winter. Well, now we put the sensor in that room and viola! When they're in that room and it senses occupants, it adjusts accordingly and that room is now more comfortable for her clients! We're considering getting more sensors, but for now the one that comes with the unit is working very nicely for us. I've played around with the app, but we tend to use our Amazon Echo to adjust the settings via voice command. There's even a web application that you can use!

Great thermostat with Alexa
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great thermostat... Alexa makes it pretty cool too. Just wish Alexa could answer more and listen better when calling her name. She is difficult sometimes but I guess I couldn’t program it to the full potential. The thermostat settings are easy to use with my phone and love that I can control it from anywhere by using my phone. For the price, it is a great thermostat:)

Big bang for your buck
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using this thermostat for little over a week. Very pleased with my purchase. Easy to program and quick install. I purchased this one because of the Alexa feature as I have two others in my home. My non techie husband loves the idea of the thermostat changing the TV channels.

Awesome product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We love this thermostat! We did some remodeling on our house and the original one was ugly. We like the look and We like tech. It’s hard to say if if it’s saved us money on heating and cooling as we haven’t had it long enough. The smart technology starts warming the house to the desired temp you want the house to be when you wake up and figures it out based on outside temps and history. Set up was breeze. I had a common wire that wasn’t being used and the instruction on how use it for power were perfect. Ecobee’s app showed me exactly how to hook everything up in great detail. The extra room sensor is a great addition and the ability to purchase/add more sensors. This the smartest advancement. We have large windows in our living room and it was always cold till we got Ecobee with the sensor. Why don’t other smart thermostats do it. We don’t have “Alexa” in our house so the added feature doesn’t do anything for us. Maybe someday we will add it.

Works with alexa, Google and apple
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I first tried nest 3rd gen, then decided on ecobee 4 because it's just a better product and better support. They fixed all the problems with Alexa, with the new update, that they just released a few days ago. Now I don't have multiple echos responding at the same time. Works with Google and siri. I have it setup up with Google although homekit was a bit tricky but like I said their tech support is top notch. Got it working in no time. The display panel is bright and it's a touch screen, forget spinning a dial over and over. Shows the temp big and what it's set at, unlike nest. And the extra sensor makes the overall comfort way better than nest. Also when calling nest I was on hold for ever and they claim that if the back panel is damaged you have to buy a while new system. When I emailed ecobee they updated my thermostat immediately and fixed the esp firmware in no time. This is the best thermostat out there.

Great Product worth the purchase
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have only had the product for a month, but it is well worth the price. I also received $50 off via a gift card from Best Buy to sweeten the deal. I love the automation features and ability to integrate with Alexa. The installation was easy, the configuration was easy, and the product is very intuitive to use. I would highly recommend the purchase. One feature that separates the Ecobee is the ability to add additional sensors. I love that capability which adds to the value and allows for keeping the whole house comfortable even if your thermostat location is in a hallway with low airflow.

So far, so good.. 4.5
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had my echobee4 for a few weeks now, and I love it! It is pretty simple to use and I love that it has Alexa. It's convenient to set/ change the temperature from my phone, which is helpful since my thermostat is on the second floor. The only issue that I have concerns the scheduling feature. My scheduling does not work and I have to "manually" set the temperature myself. It's a bit confusing at first, but the basic settings of ac, heat, or fan are easy to use. I don't like the automatic setting because you can't really control the cool or heat range... you set the ac temp and the heat temp, and echobee will cool the house to somewhere in between. If you manually pick your system, it's all good.

Ecobee is great, Alexa is ok
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok so in all fairness, I purchased this for my father as his Christmas gift. He has been eyeing down my Ecobee 3 for over a year now and my mom wanted an Echo, so this appeared to be a one size fits all solution. The Great: I'll start with the best thing about the Ecobee 4: The Ecobee is just fantastic as usual and if you're house is Homekit enabled, then even better. The integration is seamless as long as you can traverse and decipher the non-intuitive and ridiculous Apple Home app layout. With that being said, the layout of the Alexa app is slightly better in my opinion and that's saying a lot since I am an Apple fanboy (yeah that's right...I;m proud to admit it but not proud that I used the term fanboy). The Good: The Alexa integration is far superior to the skill you had to download for the Ecobee 3. I'm not sure about anyone else's experience, but I could not remember the exact commands. The Alexa integration allows the same normal command structure as you would expect from say an Echo. Saying something like "raise the temperature by two degrees" no longer returns an error like "I do not understand that command" or "what device?" The language is as natural as the Echo environment allows. The Bad(ish): Now there is nothing truly bad about the system and thats why it git 4 stars. Also I should note that its by no means the native Ecobee unit itself that got a star knocked off. Again, its well made and intuitive. Moreover, I do not have any issues with the Alexa integration as I noted above. My problem is in Alexa's functionality. One problem is that it does not support the Echo Spatial Perception (ESP) feature that prevents multiple devices from responding at the same. If you have any other Echo devices in the direct vicinity, the Ecobee Alexa will most likely respond even if its not intended to which can mean having a literal echo in responses. The other thing, and I was probably asking for too much, is that the speakers are awful for music. I mean they are just terrible, even worse than the Dot. I actually turned off the always-listening option on the Ecobee. This made Alexa useless in most cases. My advice is if you have any other Echo devices around, then maybe the Ecobee3 is worth it, even with the pain of the restrictive downloadable skill set. Hey on the bright side, its cheaper. However, if you don't have any Echo devices in the area, say you have a Show or Dot or whatever in another room, then this si probably a good choice. Saying something like "Alexa tell numnuts that I'm cold" and having the heater turn on is pretty cool. Obviously I named my Ecobee "numnuts". I hope this helps if anyone is on the fence.

Definitely a smart thermostat
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought 2 of these since we have a 2 zone system and been using them for a week now and is really cool. I like that I have the app for both of the thermostats on my laptop and I can set up the timing of the heating units turning on and off at various times each day and at the desired temperature. I decided to turn off the feature that will actually start the heaters so that your desired temperature will be reached at the designated time you set rather than just start to crank up to that temperature at that time. It seems pretty intuitive, it looks great and includes Alexa which is a nice compliment to the Google Home we already had. You can just tell Alexa to raise or lower the temp and it will automatically communicate to the thermostat and enact your wishes. Overall a nice piece of equipment to smarten up your home.

Best Functionality in a Thermostat
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So if you hesitant on stepping into the smart world, Ecobee is the way to go. Other smart thermostats are great and have features with your smart phone, but none of them have voice commands integrated internally with the thermostat. Alexa being the fastest growing voice assistant is the perfect combo for a smart device. Overall it has great features that are hard to find such as Homekit compatibly for iPhone users. One thing i will say and this is for smart thermostats in general is: if your house is built before the early 2000's you should be prepared to do a little handy work with the power kit. Not to difficult depending on your house but just know it won't be plug and play out the box.

My best purchase this year
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really love this thermostat! Easy installation, works well and the remote sensor that comes with it makes it even better. I have the sensor upstairs which usually is a lot warmer than it is downstairs so it helps keep the temperature cool there. I have an echo dot upstairs and the Alexa integration on the thermostat downstairs means that I actually can summon Alexa from anywhere throughout my home. Definitely worth it!

Very happy with this high end Smart thermostat
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was initially not interested with this type of product, because I thought it will be difficult to install and not sure of its usefulness. I bought it after receiving incentive discount from my utility company. True to the rating given by the users I can state unequivocally that it has lived up to all my expectations. The installation is fairly straightforward , just follow the manufacturer’s instructions. In short I highly recommend it. The Alexa in it is a light Alexa. I am also happy that it can be controlled with my Amazon Echo and my smartphone.

Great Smart Thermostat
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Alexa: Cool feature to have built into a thermostat. Especially if you don't already have Echo's throughout your home. The speaker can be adjusted to be pretty loud for voice feedback. Interface: The display is bright and the touch screen is responsive. It's easy to make basic changes, but recommend using the app or web portal to design a schedule or make major changes. App: The app is a very intuitive and easy to use. Schedule: Awesome feature. probably one of the best features. The ecobee gives you finer control over the details. Sensor: The satellite sensor is a great way to help out with dead spots. Our living space is open and gets warmer than the hallway where the thermostat is located. The sensor helps keep the temperature where we want it. Reports: The reports that ecobee builds are really helpful in seeing where you stack up in your community and can help you design a more efficient program for your house or apartment. This is another great feature. You get to monitor the trends of your runtime, current settings, etc. Cons: WiFi: You need WiFi to get the most out of this thermostat. Concerned about what happens if the connection is dropped. Battery: I was used to thermostats having battery backup, but since it's connected to WiFi, it will resume it's previous schedule, but while the power is out, it won't record any data. Not a huge deal, just takes getting used to if you live in an area with frequent outages. Weather: The outside weather can be a little hit and miss. I've compared to the local weather service and it's usually within a couple degrees. Overall though, it does a pretty good job.
