    Beautifully wrapped disappointment

As a dedicated HP laptop buyer this particular model was bittersweet as it fell short of my expectations from HP. Cons: - The graphics memory is only 256 MB and the driver does not allow system RAM sharing - The 8GB of RAM uses both slots requiring two memory modules to a 16 GB upgrade. Pros: - Color, fit and finish work well from the aesthetic perspective - The screen graphics are gorgeous This machine is pretty with so much more design potential than it utilizes, I might fall in love with it if the graphics had more memory or the driver allowed shared system RAM. Any graphics performance demand applications leave me stranded. Other than that it is beautiful.

    Something wrong

10 hours over a weeks time and could not get a WiFi connection. Thought it was me, but Neighbor could not get it to connect to his network either. I returned the product for an identical one and it connected within 30 seconds (whew, it wasn’t me). And I have an IT background! I would advise every $800+ purchase be verified before leaving the store and wasting unnecessary hours trying to solve a problem that can’t (unprofessional opinion: bad NIC card).

Terrible hard drive and lack of driver support

Out of the box this looks and feels really great but under the hood it's slowed down by a terrible hard drive and a lack of driver support to put this to where it really should be. I really like this laptop! It has a lot going for it. It looks and feels solid. The colors in the pictures aren't quite right, there's a hint of brown in it, which I really like. It's very thin and doesn't have a lot of flex to it so it feels solid. I really like the keyboard, don't care a whole lot for the extra wide trackpad, and the display looks pretty good to me, but doesn't get super bright. I also really like the 4C/4T CPU. So... why only 2 stars? The main reason is because the hard drive in this thing is so slow! I really wish HP would have thrown a basic SSD in here. If you do go for this you're really going to want to add a M.2 SSD unless you like waiting. This laptop took a terrible 8 hours just to install windows updates, with the poor little hard drive pegged at 100% usage. It was very sad. Anyways after finally finishing with the updates, I loaded up some overwatch only to find that the Vega 8 graphics performed about 30% slower than a nVidia GT 940MX I've got in an older laptop. So then I went looking to see if I can get new drivers for this and the only way is to try to use drivers from ACER, as HP's are old, and AMD doesn't provide them for some strange reason.

    Let down by software

I mostly like this device. Initially it was very noisy as the fans stayed on at full speed no matter what task I was doing. After quite a few Windows and driver updates it was very pleasant. Very quick and snappy for the type of computer that it is. But there were still bugs with the graphics drivers. The main one comes when resuming from sleep. Every time I immediately saw a BSOD with an error like GRAPHICS_TIMING. Another issue was the software would blacklist programs that uses graphics like Netflix, Hulu and other video player apps. So most times when trying to watch a video the audio would play but not the actual video. So after two weeks of researching and trying to fix the problem I just returned the laptop. It's unfortunate because I actually liked it outside of these issues.

I like the way that this laptop is laid out. But when just browsing the internet the laptop would run really hot. Plus there was always a delay when closing or selecting programs.

    Ryzen 5 handicapped by HP

Was a solid build and the computer seemed like it would work well. It was slow to load (probably from using HDD, not SSD), and was filled with HP bloatware. Was a pain to remove it, so I just quit and returned the item. Not worth my time. I would recommend to anybody wanting the newer Ryzen mobiles, to wait for Ryzen 7 w/SSD. Might try the Acer Ryzen 7 mobile and see how that fares.

    Mediocre laptop

It is an okay laptop. I was actually hoping for it to perform better. Yes it is a pretty powerful laptop but built quality is not that good. Both rubber feet that go along the bottom of the laptop have already fallen off and they cannot be put back because they were glued. I am using 4 door stoppers instead. It also keeps restarting sometimes when I am browsing the internet and it sometimes gets stuck on a black screen. I think it might have to something to do with its AMD drivers.

really disappointed in robustness of laptop. drive is constantly at 80-100%. i know some of this is windows, but drive is always struggling to keep up. Wireless card, keeps dropping connection. Have to move closer to router, didnt have this on prior HP laptop. Constantly getting messages about power supply being underpowered. Its the supply that came with it. HP sent new one to appease me, but didnt stop messaging. Either beef up your purchase or move to another vendor

I got this computer to replace my Mac and play the Sims. The pc was terrible. Had it less than a week and the option to rotate the screen when i tablet mode greyed out and i couldn’t flip the screen. It wasn’t slow. And disconnected from my WiFi 3 times without Briggs able to reconnect for hours even after running trouble shoot. I returned it and got a Mac. Just wasn’t for me.

well it worked awesome at first but after a Windows update it wouldn't browse the web properly and some applications wouldn't open then I had to restore it to a earlier build of Windows and then it worked but then it required those updates again...taking it back within 24 hours of purchasing

The computer was in a carrying case and dropped from 3ft. The screen shattered on the side and the frame of the laptop is now bent. Now I have a really expensive paperweight. On a side note, it was kinda sluggish and was bottlenecked by the hard drive. The screen could of brighter but the keyboard was nice but felt flimsy.

Have had one problem after another with this computer. Even exchanged it for another one but the same problems of it going to black for no reason still persist. Admittedly, I am not the most computer savvy person around but this one stops when it wants. It is not user friendly at all.
