Many appreciate its water resistance and accurate step tracking capabilities, along with the comfortable fit and useful sleep tracking features. Vivosmart OLED screen goes out, makes it unuseable

I purchased my first Garmin Vivosmart close to a year ago. Since that time I have returned it 4 times for the same reason, the OLED screen will go out. I read that OLED screens go out 4 times faster than standard LED screens. Also they are more sensitive to water, even if the vivosmart is supposed to be waterproof to 50 meters. Other than that one major flaw, it is an awesome device. The only problem is without the screen it is basically useless. The OLED does allow the device to be thinner and sleek, which makes it one of the most attractive fitness bands on the market, but not at the expense of not having a display at all. My wife's and my sister in law's have also gone out. So that is a total of 6 devices that I know of that have this issue. I feel like it is a much broader issue, yet I don't think Garmin has addressed it publicly. They really should do a recall on all of them.

In addition to reading steps, this activity tracker does my heart rate accurately, notifies me of text messages, telephone calls, facebook posts, speed when riding bicycle, and can even find my phone.

I am very disappointed in the Garmin Vivosmart fitness tracker. I bought it in March 2016 and enjoyed using it until the display pixels started to fade out. I've never gotten it wet or damaged it. I didn't know this was a know issue or I would have selected a different tracker. I would like to know how I can get a replacement or different fitness tracker.

I research a lot before I make purchases especially ones I'll plan on using daily and for years to come and the VivoSmart met all my criteria; durable, long battery life, comfortable to wear and accurate. Honestly, what's the point of a fitness tracker if it can't do just that. It's been two weeks of constant use and I only just recharged my band, not because it needed it but that the timing was best for me. I have a medical condition that makes activity difficult but also nessisary and this is helping me to achieve the movement I need to engage in as well as the other very important aspect of better managing my health of tracking my sleep. When you medically require around 10 hours of sleep daily just to stay out of the hospital you really want to know if it was quality sleep or not and this device has really helped. I now can see a snapshot of my sleep and have a better understanding of if I'll need to run an IV or if I can manage my symptoms with less aggressive approaches. Obviously most individuals looking for this unit aren't going to have major medical conditions, what they want is functionality, and this certainly has it. I have been impressed with the accuracy of the units tracking, the comfortable fit and the slim style. I wasn't sure I'd care about the syncing to my phone calls, text, or emails but it's really proven handy especially when a call comes in when you're busy and don't want to, or shouldn't pull out your phone. The light vibration is just enough to get your attention but not annoy you, that also includes that the buzz isn't too long either. For my needs this has been a perfect fit and with the Black Friday sale it was a great value. I'm really glad I got this, it's been even better than I hoped it would be and I can't wait for warmer weather so I can take it with me on long hikes through my favorite red rock country.

I initially tried the VivoFit 2 and ended up exchanging it for the Smart, which in my opinion is a much better product. None of the issues I had with the Fit2 like syncing (I lost data on several workouts because the Fit2 didn't sync my HRM data properly) and scrolling through different menus. It has nice features, decent battery life (particularly if you stick to using it for fitness and don't use all the other features), waterproof (other than charging I never have to take it off), small and simple/discrete looking. Although I still wear it everyday, I don't use it as religiously as I did initially now that I am back on a normal routine, but It definitely served as a great tool to motivate me while I was starting to get back into a workout routine. I even used the MyFitnessPal app that comes with it to sync and track my eating habits, consumed calories, etc. to help me calculate how much energy I was actually burning throughout the day and ensure I reached my goals. I read several reviews which were critical of the software, and while I haven't owned other fitness bands, limiting my points of reference, I had no problem with the functionality of the Garmin Connect software and think it works just fine (maybe they have updated the software since those negative reviews). These devices aren't magical, but if used properly it can be a great tool to motivate you into getting back to healthy habits and routines. This one definitely gets the job done!

Comfortable, fun to keep track of steps and sleep. Difficult to put on and adjust the fit by yourself. Battery so far lasts quite awhile. I like the display ON the tracker, instead of having to refer to my phone. Software can be challenging at times. Nowhere can I find information on how to interpret sleep data

I decided to upgrade from a Vivofit to the Vivosmart and am glad that I did. It functions great and interacts much better with my smartphone and My Firness Pal app than the Vivofit did. It has a slimmer design than the Vivofit but all of the same perks including the waterproof feature and watch function that were two of the reasons I selected the Garmin products. The only drawback is the need to charge the Vivosmart but the charge easily lasts 1 week and hasnt been much of an issue.

I love the water and wanted a device that I could swim with. This was one of the few on the market that would allow me to use it while swimming. It did take me a little more time than I'd hoped to get the device to sync, but I was prepared based on some of the other reviews. I have had no real issues with transmitting, there is an occasional delay, but very rarely and usually not even that terribly long. I really like the fact that it doesn't eat the battery to the phone or the device up due to constant talking to my phone. I haven't noticed a change in the life of my phone at all. The battery life is lasting a good week at a time before needing to be re-charged. I like the sleep feature, I always wake up tired, now I know why. I also really like the reminder to move feature. I am active all day at work, but at night when I get home from work, I didn't realise how much I was sitting. This reminds me to move more, while I still come home and relax for a little bit, I find I am lounging on the couch less and getting more done at night (even after a long days work).

Tracker is comfortable and can be worn all the time including showers and swimming. Easy to use after setting up. It failed the first time I tried connecting to my phone and I had to delete the blue tooth connection in the phone in order for it to reconnect and work properly but since then the syncs are automatic and the connect app makes it easy to review sleep, steps, calories burned, etc. I bought this after reading many positive reviews and I am pleased with this purchase. I also love the notifications feature for phone and text messages. I no longer miss messages I might have in the past.

The vivosmart is amazing. I wanted a smartband so i could get notifications and some type of fitness tracking. My main purpose was to track steps and sleep but wanted something to notify me when i get texts and calls without having to take my phone out every time. Its great for notifications, i feel the vibration for texts about 93-95% of the time, and calls have been 100%. I dont use it for email notifications because the battery life would be cut short. Battery life is usually lasting 5-6 days depending on use, and fully charges between 90-120 mins. Its sleek looking, durable, water resistant ( i shower with it every day and have swam with it a couple of times), and is great for giving notifications. It also tracks sleep, steps, distance and the usual things an activity tracker does. Not too sure how accurately it tracks steps as with any device worn on the wrist movement is somewhat inflated. This is not a big problem for me as i just like the motivation to reach the daily goal and motivates me to move more. I have had this for about 40 days and i love it!!

Bought 2 of the vivosmarts for the wife and I for the holidays and so far so good. I love that it's waterproof and I can wear it in the shower. Keeps track of steps fine and is easy to access. The only thing that worries me is the dedicated charging unit. It's not a standard micro usb cord so if u lose it, which my wife already did then ur in trouble. Thank goodness I bought 2.

I have been using my Garmin fitness tracker for 2 months. I have found it to be easy to use and very comfortable to wear. Linking to my iPhone was simple and the information is displayed in a graphic form that allows the data easy to understand. The rechargeable battery has required charging about once a week and takes about 90 minutes when attached through the included usb cable to my desktop. Attaching the cable was a little tricky the first time but after I figured out what needed to be done it wasn't a problem. Wearing it has caused me to be more active which is the primary reason to wear it. For that reason alone it is a great product. I have not purchased a heart monitor attachment or attempted to use any other options so I can't say for sure if they would be useful.

I picked this because it has "move" reminders to help me know when it's time to get up and move from my sedentary desk job and take a small walk, otherwise I get engrossed in my work. It buzzes once at 1 hour of idle time and again at 2 hours. The only downfall with that is it buzzes ONCE and if you ignore it past two hours it won't buzz again. I like that it tracks sleep, but it will only give you a vague idea of how restless you were and how long you slept (if you remember to put it in sleep mode). The other big seller for me was that I did not have to have a smart phone in a specific platform to use it (which I dont) and I could check stats online by plugging it in. The online dashboard is decent - not great- and slow to upload but has good visual tools that will help you see how you're doing. I think the accuracy of the steps counter is not 100% accurate, but if your main goal is just to be more active then it will work fine. I also like that if I am meeting my goals it will slowly creep up my goal to continually encourage me to work harder. I think for the price range it does a pretty good job. Beware- you will probably drive your family/pets/roommates crazy by "housewalking" to keep you count up!

I chose this model because it's waterproof, and I work in water daily and participate in a lot of outdoor and water-based sports. I take it off only to charge it, and wear it bathing, swimming, kayaking and at work in the field, and can attest to its toughness and waterproof-ness. I also love that it buzzes you when its time to move, and that you can get text messages, etc when its linked with your phone. Another great feature is the "find my phone," but that only works if your phone is in close proximity (within bluetooth range) which is great if youve dropped your phone in the couch or in your car and need to figure out where to start looking. I'm deducting a star because I had to replace my first one when the display started breaking up, so I do recommend getting the geek squad protection on this item.

Needed to track steps for work (humana vitality), this does that. Wanted more features if I am going to be wearing something on my wrist all the time. This band has the perfect balance of features-to-battery life. I use the silent alarm to wake up in the morning, no more alarm clock. I have also disabled sound and vibration on my phone, my wrist vibrates whenever I need to check it. I don't want something I have to charge every day, or even every few days, which seems to have become the acceptable battery life for smart watches. The only thing that lasts longer than this is the older version with the year battery, but this has so many more features it's worth charging. I usually get about 8 days to a charge. I think the price is a bit high, and the Bluetooth can be a bit flaky. Other than that, I am happy with it. So happy, that when I lost one, I bought another one since there still isn't a better alternative out there (and I looked).

    Bad experience

I purchased a vivosmart in Nov 2014. It is now June 2015 and I am working on my fourth exchange with Garmin's customer service team. Although they are understanding that the product has simply malfunctioned four different times it is still rather annoying to have to go though the return and exchange process once let alone four times. The first time the clear plastic film came off the back of the tracker and washed all the serial numbers and other information off the back of the device. I short time after the screen became unresponsive. The second time the screen froze and was missing pixels. The third time the screen became very faint and you could not read any of the information even on the highest light setting. And when you touched the device and the screen woke up the device became very warm. I mean out of the ordinary I don't want this on my wrist warm. The customer service team has been good exchanging the devices out. And I enjoy the tracker as I use it everyday when it is working. However, to deal with sending it back and then not having one for roughly two weeks is so not fair for the $180.00 I paid for the device. At this point I would think they would offer me some kind of credit or a heart rate monitor. Something to show rather then just respond to this post that they actually are understanding of my experience. Anyhow, the Garmin Vivosmart is a nice model when it works, but as Ive said having to send for a fourth device after shelling out 180 bucks has frustration written all over it.

I work in an office and wanted something to track my steps, but I'm not allowed to have a cell phone on me while at work. Outside of work, I like notifications of texts, IMs and emails. Much easier to look at than pulling my phone out all the time. The music control is nice however I haven't gotten it to work with amazon, though I have read in other forms that it will. The step counter is not accurate, during the weekends while playing board games with friends it tends to say I hit my goal.

I love this fitness band. I had a fit bit flex before it and the features on this are so much more. It has a great battery life and would recommend it to anyone.

Just love the Garmin Vivosmart! I've used other activity trackers and just thought they were very expensive pedometers. This one is great for its price, has so many features! It tracks steps and vibrates when you haven't moved in a while, it sets a target of steps for the day buzzing when you've reached that goal. Love the fact that it's a watch with an alarm (unfortunately can't set different times each day) It's truly waterproof, I swim with it on all the time. It buzzes with incoming calls displaying callers details, shows texts, Facebook updates, email and so much more. Just love the Garmin Vivosmart! My husband replaced his Fitbit for one because of all the features Garmin offer.
