We appreciate you taking the time to leave us your honest feedback about your air conditioner. This air conditioner must be set to "Auto" for the fan to turn off at the set temperature. More on this can be found on page 7 of the Use and Care manual. Know that you can always take advantage of your one-year warranty by calling 833-426-3393.

Very happy with this GE air conditioner. I have it in the bedroom window replacing our old unit that was about 10 years old. In comparison, this GE is smaller, lighter, has a remote and is much quieter. I really like the fact that it is much quieter. The old unit was loud enough to keep us from using it on some hot nights. I don't see that being an issue here. So far it does an excellent job with cooling down the bedroom. I like the fact that it has a remote. Handy when you are already in bed :-) Setting it up was a breeze. The window I have it in sits pretty low so it wasn't an issue placing it. All in all, I probably had it up and running in less than 10 minutes. I have a feeling this will be keeping us cool for many years to come.

I replaced the GE 6,000 BTU for GE 10,000 BTU.
I would have bought a bigger one like the GE 14,000 BTU but I want to consume less energy.

A big part of the problem with this unit is that the vents, no matter how they are adjusted, direct the air to the right. That doesn't work for the configuration of my room and thus it takes a long time before I feel the room cooling off. And my bedroom is small, only 10' by 14'.
It's 85 degrees outside today and the AC has been on high for almost 2 hours and the room still measures 81 degrees. I wish I purchased the Amana instead.

Very loud, so would not recommend for bedroom. Only used mine for a month and a half since it was just so loud at night, very little sound insulation so you hear the compressor and everything in the AC. Would have to crank up tv volume to be able to hear it over the AC.

GE - 250 Sq. Ft. 6,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner - White
The GE 6000 BTU window A/C unit is small and light, as far as A/C units go. 1 person can certainly lift, but you really need 2 people to install it. It would be too easy for it to slip and end up on the ground, or your foot. As for window fit, please read the manual before you buy a window A/C. This unit is about as small as they come and should fit almost any window. I had to add extra material on the sides as the side covers didn’t quite reach. I’ve had to do this before. Our stupid windows are really wide but not very tall. As far as features goes, it has adjustable air vents, although they only move right and left, NOT up and down. It has a dumb remote. By dumb I mean there are no features on the remote, it is just a duplication of the standard button on the A/C. I really like that about it, when you turn it on, it is set right where it was when it was turned off. I have other A/C units that you have to reset to your setting any time you turn them on, I don’t like that. On low it is very quiet. On Auto it doesn’t seem to use the low setting at all. Not sure if that’s just because of the heat and humidity where I live or if it really never uses low. The cooling split is between 25 and 31 degrees depending on the fan setting. The thermostat has a full 1 degree swing. When set on 74 it doesn’t come on until after it passes through 75. So even though you see 75 on the display and think the A/C should be cooling, it wont until it hits 76. It is a full 1 degree on either side of the set temperature. This is really a energy saver but can lead to warmer rooms than you might like. I have seen many reviews of this exact unit having thermostat issues, so far, I haven’t seen this. Hopefully they have resolved this issue. I also like that the display shows room temperature until you press a button, then it shows set temperature. After a few seconds it goes back to displaying room temperature. One thing I really don’t like is the filter. It is a very loose weave type filter and will not catch anything but the largest of dust or pet hair. The filter is inserted from the side removing any possibility of adding a per filter to help this. So filtering the air in not something this unit does very well. I guess it’s a matter of cost. On units that are just a bit more expensive the filter comes off with the front cover. You can add a pre filter if you want. This unit the front cover does NOT come off. This A/C unit uses the “new” no drip water pan. It has a slinger ring on the condenser fan that throws water on the condenser to help in efficiency. This of course means that there will be pinging and water noises if your humidity level creates any amount of water. We live in Florida, it pings and splashes almost the whole time it’s running. This is not something you could use in a quiet room. It does have a removeable water plug. I have 2 other window units that are large, 12,000 BTU. Actually one it 12,000 BTU and has a water slinger the other is the exact same unit but 1 year older and has a hole in the pan and no slinger. On the older unit, it is rated at 11,700 BTU. So without the water slinger you lose 300 BTU of cooling. On this unit, being half the size, if you remove the pan water plug and let it drain so it stays quiet I’ll bet you lose 150 BTU of cooling. The other units are another brand and they are very clear about how much cooling you lose if you pull the water plug. GE seems to keep that to themselves. The room it is installed in is small enough ( 115sqft ) and insulated well enough that I pulled the water plug and was very comfortable at 73 degrees, with the A/C cycling on and off as expected. I expect this A/C unit could pull this room down to the high 60’s if asked to.
Overall, for the cost, this is a good small room A/C.

We do wish you all the best! Vikki@GEA
