My unit was delivered in the middle of a snowstorm so this is perhaps not the right time of year for trying my new unit. However, New England can get hot very quickly so we wanted to make sure it fit and worked before we repurposed our old unit. First, installation was very easy. We were a bit worried as our window is a bit bigger than normal but there were no problems. We ran it to make sure it worked and it was great. It was very quiet so no problems there. As it is in an office where there will be clients, that is important. While the room was not hot as it was one of the coldest days of the week, we were able to tell that the air got cold so should do a good job. The remote is a nice feature as well as it will be easy to regulate the temperature manually. Given we're supposed to have snow again this weekend, I'm not sure when we will be able to enjoy the full features of this unit but I'm pretty sure that overheating will not be happening.

Hey there, and thank you for taking the time to reach out to us. We truly regret that your air conditioner is not cooling as expected; we know this must be frustrating, and would like to assist. This window air conditioner has 6,000 BTUs of cooling power and is ideal for rooms of 150 to 250 square feet. If your room is not that size, that may be why you're having an issue with cooling. You may want to check the nothing is restricting airflow to the unit and the air filter is clean. If the air conditioner is new, it can take a couple days to fully cool down the space. Further troubleshooting details are available in the manual. If you are not able to resolve your cooling issue, information on your limited warranty is available on page 17 of your manual, if you think you may need to take advantage of that. We hope this information is helpful so you can enjoy your air conditioner, and are available to assist if you have any other questions or concerns. -Sarah@GEA

I got this to replace a very similar GE model air conditioner that we've been using for about 15 years now. It was starting to get pretty noisy, and the newer ones are quite a bit more energy efficient, so it was time to upgrade. We use it in our 12x20' insulated garage to keep it a comfortable temperature during our blazing hot summers.
It was very easy to install by myself. Even though it has the same BTU rating, I think it was a bit lighter than the old unit so that was nice. It's definitely quieter than the old one, too, but I'd still describe it as fairly noisy even on the low fan setting. The good news is it didn't get that much louder when going to the high fan setting. The main difference seemed to be the pitch of the sound rather than the volume.
The removable air filter is really just a simple plastic mesh screen. It's a bit tricky to get pushed back in, but if you're patient it'll make the bend and slide in. It's the exact same type of filter as in my old model, so I expect the plastic will start to get brittle and degrade after 5 or 6 years. I suppose you could get a replacement if it got too bad. I just lived with it on the old model since it only had a few holes in it.
The other thing to be aware of is the side flaps aren't the best at sealing out the outside air and bugs. You'll want to add some things other than what it comes with to help seal it better. I got extra foam to put underneath the unit because there was a large gap with the type of metal window frame I have. I also cut some square pieces of styrofoam that I can wedge into place on each side to cover the side flaps completely. This pretty effectively keeps the heat and bugs from coming in the sides. It's white like the air conditioner so it doesn't even look too bad.
The remote control is handy and I particularly like the eco mode that will shut the fan off when it's not needed. My old unit would run the fan constantly whether the compressor was on or not. Occasionally we'll get a cooler day in the summer so it'll be nice to not have the fan running all day for no reason while we're gone. I also like that it displays the actual air temperature so you know what the situation is. Overall, I think this will be a great little air conditioner for the space, and I hope it lasts as long as the old model did.

Hello. We appreciate you reaching out to us, and sincerely regret to hear the air conditioner is not working. We know this must have caused inconvenience, especially when it's so new, and would like to assist. You may want to try disconnecting the unit completely from power for a couple minutes in order to reset the electrical components, which can often help. You may also want to check the house fuse/circuit breaker box to make sure power is reaching the unit. If the current interrupter device may have been tripped, you can also use the Reset button on the power cord plug to possibly resolve. We hope this may help to restore the unit to its normal operating, but if our service department is needed, they are available at 1-800-432-2737. Troubleshooting is more fully covered in your manual, and there is also information on your limited warranty on page 17. This warranty lasts for the first year, so you do have longer than the initial 2 weeks to repair or replace the unit as needed. If you have any other concerns or questions, we are always happy to help. All the best! -Sarah@GEA

Good Window AC Unit

This is a smaller window AC unit but does its job good.
Background: I got this unit as a supplement to my AC in my apartment. The building was built in 1965 and really lacks a lot of insulation and being on the second floor doesn't help. The central AC does alright but ultimately seems to have trouble keeping up and tends to have to run a lot when it gets warm. I can manage but my girlfriend tends to sleep hot which is why I decided that this year I would get a window AC unit to cool the bedroom at night.
Enter this GE 6000 BTU window unit. I will be honest, it has not been extremely warm yet to stress test it but from what I have run it, I was able to easily cool my bedroom (appox. 12ft x14ft space) and quite quickly; dropping the room temperature from ~70F to 65F in ~20mins. The unit comes in a rather small box, barely bigger than the unit itself. I expected a bigger size as 6000 BTU seemed like a lot but its small size also means it is not too heavy or difficult to move and position. Assembly of the unit, specifically the window gap filler was relatively easy and straightforward; should not be difficult for most to put together. This unit also comes with a remote, which is a nice little bonus but not entirely needed as it is designed to cool a smaller space where you are likely close to the unit. Unlike other units, there is no wifi or smart features built in. I however, chose to install the unit into a smart plug. The draw doesn't appear to be too much and hasn't destroyed the plug but more use will really tell if this works. The window AC unit if fairly quite, though obviously much louder when on the high fan setting. That said, that is one of my biggest comment/complaint, I would prefer more than simply three fan settings. It doesn't detract from the unit, just my personal preference.
Overall, this is a decent little AC unit if you are looking to cool a small space; easy to use ad fairly quiet.

Hello Ronnie - We are very sorry to hear about the trouble with your air conditioner. If the unit is leaking into the room, the air conditioner may not be installed right. The unit should tilt slightly outward so the front of the air conditioner is about 1/4" higher than the rear. This will make sure the unit will drain outside of the home. Keep in touch! - JB

Hi- We are very sorry to hear you you are not pleased with the cooling performance of your air conditioner. This is not the type of review we want to receive. If you are using the unit in the ECO mode the fan will cycle on and off with the compressor. This may result in wider variations of room temperature and humidity. The fan may continue to run for a short time or may pulse intermittently after the compressor cycles off to sample the room air. If you're wanting to choose a set temperature for the room, try setting it to Cool Mode and see if it performs better. Try not to allow the room to get too hot prior to turning the unit on. If these suggestions do not improve the performance please review Page 17 of your Owner's Manual for details regarding your warranty. We wish you all the best! Vikki@GEA
