Hello Teefa - We appreciate you choosing GE Appliances. We're sorry to hear the air conditioner did not work as it should have. To help with noise issues, we suggest making sure the unit is properly and securely installed in the window. This will lessen the vibration caused by the air conditioner. To maximize the cooling performance, the unit should be sized right for the room, windows and doors closed, and blinds and curtains stay drawn. We hope we have the opportunity to help you in the future. - John@GEAppliances GE_Appliances

Basic Air Conditioner for a Small Space

I love being cold at night, so even with my central air I always put a window A/C unit in my bedroom to keep cool during the hot summer nights and thought this would fit the bill great. In some ways it did and in other ways it didn't. I'll keep this review brief with a list of pros and cons though as everyone knows what an air conditioner does and how it works. Pros: Small unit that fits nicely into a small window Window kit is sturdy and creates a nice seal Comes with extra insulation in case you have some gaps Remote is a nice touch for such a basic unit Has an auto and eco mode Cons: Side slide-in filter. This is the worst design for a window A/C as it makes it very difficult to slide out and put back in when it's actually on the window as you're always hitting the side of the window will when pulling it out to clean it Doesn't seem to cool as well as my last 6,000 BTU A/C Left and right vent manipulation only, my last A/C would also adjust up and down

We live in the south where summers are hot and humid. We have central AC but it is old. We wanted to have supplemental and even emergency backup in case it’s needed. Some days, especially in my corner kitchen the central AC just won’t get the job done. We have the small 6000 btu. It is actually quite cute. My husband installed it with minimal fuss, but because our vinyl windows have a lip or drop edge he had to install an insert that he made to level out the unit and stabilize it. I really like the digital display that lit up with the temp as soon as we plugged it in and turned it on. It shows the room temperature and can be set with time delays, and various modes such high, low or eco. You can leave the fan on all the time our auto as well. It comes with a remote control that allows all the features to be controlled up to 20 feet away. That means I can turn it on or off from my chair in the den which has direct line of sight. It can be set to auto so that it sleeps until the temp reaches whatever you set it to and then powers up. I can adjust the temperature if it gets too cool or the sun starts coming in hot, all without getting up. It easily cools my space and runs very quietly. If you need an extra boost or just need a small room cooled I would highly recommend this. At some point we may even move it to our tiny house that is just under 250 sq feet. Get one!

I purchased this to replace a 20 year old Kenmore air conditioner for my bedroom. It works really well, keeps the room cool, was fairly easy to install and is much quieter than the old one. I am very happy with my purchase and the price was very reasonable. Best Buy is my go to place for large and small appliances.

I bought it because of the size and weight that fits perfect for my apartment. The room gets cold very fast (10x10) and works perfect to sleep in the hot days. The only thing I would change is noise level on it can be better.

This window unit from GE works as expected. There is nothing too overly flashy that sets it apart from the competition. The unit feels very sturdy and well built. It comes packaged very secured. Setup wasn't all that difficult. Following the instructions was fairly easy, however, if your not a handy person you might have some trouble. I had to improvise a little when it came to screwing the unit down to the window sill. The included screws weren't long enough so I used some long deck screws I had lying around. The unit plugs into a standard 110v outlet and has a GFI built onto the end of the plug. The controls are easy to use. Keep in mind that this is A/C only. It does not heat. The unit has speed setting for low, medium, high, and auto. The temperature settings are eco, cool, and fan. It also has a time delay feature you can set. The unit comes with a remote that allows control of all features. The unit is fairly loud, even on the lower settings. While it is running I can usually hear the compressor turn on with a click. Also, the unit has a rubber plug that sits in the drain hole. You can remove it to allow condensation to drain, but the manual recommends you leave it in because the fans hit the moisture, splashing it on the coils. The manual says this helps the unit run more efficiently. The only issue is that the fan hiting/slinging the water makes more noise. It is tolerable, but something worth noting. The unit also has two sliding pieces on the vents to allow for directing the air flow. After fooling with them I found that it doesn't really make a difference. They aren't narrow enough and they don't move enough to truly aim the air. To sum it all up, if you have a small room and don't mind a fair amount of noise, then this unit will serve its purpose properly. If your room is large I would go for a larger model.

The unit itself is light weight and manageable. I installed this unit in my bedroom which is around 300 square feet. This unit was super easy to install! It small and mighty. It took it approximately 30 minutes to cool my bedroom. I would like to mention how quiet the unit is compared to other models and previous models of GE window A/C units. I would love to list you some PRO's and CON's but I really only have PRO's. If you are looking to cool a small room in your home I would highly recommend this product. I was so pleased with it. I know you will be too!!!! I just can not get over how small, light weight, and powerful this unit is! WOOOOHOOOOO go GE!!!!!

I hesitated to test out this GE window unit since I have Central Air already but so glad I did! I want to start with the bad... I also have storm windows and limited mechanical abilities. To install a window unit into a storm window, well it pretty much sucks. The instructions indicate about an hour of install time with the included hardware for a normal window... It took me over 3 but I did accomplish it even with my skill set (and some spare wood out of my garage). Do with that as you will but I highly recommend watching some "How to videos" first, during, and prior. Because now I am going to buy some aftermarket items to better secure the unit, for my own peace of mind. The bottom of the unit has a gap that I want to fill in better, the accordion pull outs weren't flush because of my storm window side grooves, and I would like a better lock down to prevent falls and theft. Furthermore, if anyone from GE reads this, PLEASE don't tighten the securing screws on the left and right for the L brackets so tight before shipping. Now, as for the quality and working condition of the unit I am absolutely impressed. The unit is about as loud as a box fan on medium settings which is nice (not super quiet but also not a deal breaker) I chose to move forward on acquiring the unit because I work 2nd shift and sleep during the day so I wanted it for my bedroom. Our air conditioner is only a few years old, but the HVAC doesn't cool the master as well as I really want for whatever reason without turning the unit way down. My room is bigger than the unit specs but with my actual AC turned off and only a ceiling fan running the unit is able to freeze out our room of 30' x 15' x 12' (450 square feet). The disclaimer is that it was only about 80 degrees outside, and we have great insulation. Overall, I am very pleased with my window unit, excited to be sleeping well during the summer months, and even more excited that I won't have to break the bank running my actual AC to cool rooms no one is occupying to do so.

Review for GE - 250 Sq. Ft. 6,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner - White This unit from GE fits in most double hung windows with ease. It’s got a trim appearance and is light enough for one person to lift. (Certainly not true of the unit it replaces!) It’s well made and seems much quieter than I expected for its size. It cools an average-sized bedroom with ease, even on the lowest setting. The remote is also well-designed and easy to use. I like the Eco setting that turns off the fan when the compressor is not running. I dinged it one start for the poor design of the air filter. It’s made to fit in the side of the unit and comes out easily, but it must have to pass by some guides inside that make it difficult to replace after you clean it.

I am replacing an 8,000 BTU portable A/C unit with this 6,000 BTU GE Window A/C unit. The room is a 12x20 bonus room a lot of computer equipment - the central A/C just can't keep up during summer months. First out of the box I was pleased with the appearance of the GE unit, it has an understated look especially on the outside. The unit is TINY as well, I was shocked that such a small unit puts out so much cooling. The only complaint I can think of is the fit in my particular window. It only came with the one strip of foam to 'seal' between the top and bottom windows, which is pretty standard. I will need to go over the edges of the curtains with some classy looking duct tape and some additional foam to seal things when the pandemic is over. Will be especially important as things really get hot outside. Improvement over my previous 8k portable unit was noticeable and immediate. Sound wise, the GE window A/C unit is only about 1/3 to 1/2 the noise level of the portable unit it replaced. It's quieter than the computer equipment in the bonus room. Advertised dB level is about 3db lower, but the real story is how much of the sound stays outside of the home (and even then, it's not loud) vs the portable unit which is obviously all inside the room. Efficiency wise, the 6k BTU seems to use about 475W peak from our 110v outlet, vs 880-900W out of the portable unit I replaced. Saving 50% on the power is going to be noticeable during the hot Tennessee summers when this unit will probably run 8-12 hours per day. Cooling output doesn't seem to be noticeably different from the 8k portable to this 6k window unit. They were both advertised to cool the same size room, as window units in general are more efficient than portable ones due to their design. I also like that it has an "Eco" setting which cuts off both the compressor and the fan, and seems to run the fan a bit longer than the compressor to take advantage of some of the swamp cooling effect. Overall I'm really impressed with this unit and would happily recommend it to anyone needing more cooling in their home.
