    Difficult to program

I would not recommend Nest thermostat. I found it clumsy to program. Not capable of sending alerts of any kind. Limited capabilities. I will return mine if possible and get a Honeywell to pair up with a Smart Things hub. All types of alerts are available... and can be programmed easily.

Did not work heat pumps. When temp is too low, this cannot set youf heater to auxiliary heat. Due to google nest, there was a short circuit in my unit snd heater stopped working and i had to get a new thermostat

    Damages systems

Nest thermostats cycle the AC to get its power. This results in the AC compressor to come on every 5 minutes or so. This will result in excessive wear and tear on the system. Nest needs to come up with a better way to get its power.

There is not much I can write that has not been already said. I purchased Nest to replace what I thought was a failed thermostat and it turned out to be something else wrong, but we kept the Nest anyway because it really changed how we manage temperature in our house. Programming the 10 year old "smart" Honeywell thermostat required some sort of college degree I didn't possess so we were fiddling with it daily. Along comes Nest and managing temperatures and times is a breeze. Install took less than 10 minutes. We looked at Nest daily for the first week and now, 2 months later, we haven't looked at it in probably 4 or 5 weeks: it just works. I can think of no better accolade than "it just works".

Hi Hoosier, thanks for posting your feedback on Nest Learning Thermostat, and we're sorry to hear that it's an unpleasant experience for you.

Nest thermostat changes its temperature automatically due to some factors like schedule, learned habits (auto schedule), and Home/Away Assist which makes your thermostat go to ECO mode. When you set your thermostat to Eco Temperature manually, it will hold the temperature until you change it, and your thermostat will immediately switch. Your thermostat and system behaviors are different when you manually switch to Eco Temperatures compared to when it’s automatically set. If you’re willing to tell us more about your situation, feel free to visit us here so we can investigate the reasons behind these issues, including its connectivity. Our dedicated team of specialists can guide you with checking whether this is caused by insufficient power, the thermostat, or other environmental factors: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Hi dumbo, thanks for posting a review. We regret to hear that the Nest Learning Thermostat isn’t working as expected.

Regarding the erratic behavior you observed with the thermostats, we'd like to know more about it to understand and offer a resolution. However, if the thermostats kick in at random times on their own, this is a part of the learning process. Nest Learning Thermostat has the feature Auto-Schedule that learns from the temperature changes you make on the thermostat over time and then creates its own schedules. You can turn off this feature to control the thermostat schedules all by yourself. Here's how you can turn it off:

      With the Nest app:
      - Open the Nest app and select your Nest thermostat.
      - Select Settings and then Auto-Schedule.
      - Tap the switch to turn it off.

      On your thermostat:
      - Press the ring and choose Settings and then Nest Sense and then Auto-Schedule and then Off.

We also recommend clearing the existing schedules by selecting Settings, then Reset, then Schedule and Reset again.

We’re hoping that you’ll give Nest Learning Thermostat another chance to improve your experience. If you need further assistance, our support team is always here to help. Please feel free to contact us anytime here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest
