    A torture device

I've regretted buying this thing from almost day 1. It repeatedly changes my temperature on its own, all the time. I'll set it on 74, only to find it blasting cold air at 69 a few minutes later. I've tried turning off all the atrocious "learning" features, but even then it still does it. I'm at the point where I'm close to ripping the thing off the wall and getting a normal thermostat because I'm so sick of it changing the temperature to random nonsense on a daily basis.

This thermostat is the worst one I have ever used. It randomly changes the temp in the middle of the jight even with the learning settings turned off, its slow and constantly freezes up. Avoid this expensive garbage and get a smart thermostat thats actually smart.

Hi there, Andrew. Thanks for sharing your feedback and we’re sorry to hear about your experience with the Nest Learning Thermostat.

The Nest Learning Thermostat changes its temperature automatically due to some factors like schedule, learned habits (auto schedule), and Home/Away Assist which makes your thermostat go to ECO mode. You have an option to use it as a traditional programmable thermostat, and you can manually set the temperature and create your schedules for the thermostat to follow. You can turn off the Auto Schedule feature. We also suggest disabling your Home/Assist, and to clear the existing schedules by selecting Settings > Reset > Schedule > Reset again. Lack of HomeKit / Apple Environment Compatibility

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Lack of HomeKit / Apple Environment Compatibility. Temperature shows 76 but all my other temperature sensors agree the temperature is in fact 69 in my house, which makes this inaccurate and useless. Not a product I would recommend to a friend. It’s the prietest with the best UI out there but fails at both main aspects and features it offers, temperature and smart home.

Thinks it’s smarter than you are

I have two of these and over the years the changes to the Nest product continue to change. What you buy today may not be what you get the future. Don’t expect Nest to improve over time. In the past few months both our units (2 different homes) have decided that it knows best and what we want our heat set at. The first experience was when the heat would switch to Eco mode while we are at home. We have the occupancy sensor on our nest and upstairs Nest Protect (smart smoke detector) and after an hour not walking by, it lowers our heat to 60F. I turned off the auto away mode to prevent this but it doent seem to work. This morning I woke up to a house set at 60F (its currently -10F outside) with a notification that it declared to opt me into seasonal savings without the option to turn it off. My theory is that its due to the country wide cold snap. If you think Google knows best, by all means, this product may be for you but I’m looking elsewhere.

Hi there Sharik924, thanks for giving us feedback on the Nest Learning Thermostat, and it’s unfortunate to hear your experience is less than ideal. We can imagine how hard you tried to make it work, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience these issues have caused you.

You have an option to use it as a traditional programmable thermostat, and you can manually set the temperature and create your schedules for the thermostat to follow. Besides turning off the Auto Schedule feature, we also suggest turning off your Home/Assist, and clearing the existing schedules by selecting Settings > Reset > Schedule > Reset again.

    Will not stay connected

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I did my research on smart thermostats and we decided on the Nest Thermostat. It was easy to install and set up, but it will not stay connected to the internet. At first glance this may not be a big deal, but when we leave for work and the nest registers this, it goes into eco mode and turns off the heat or a/c. If it stayed connected to the internet I would like to be able to turn the heat or a/c on so that the house is a normal temperature when we arrive home. We have spent countless hours on the phone with nest and no one has really been able to help us.

    Garbage

This thing is such a piece of crap. It's complicated, and HVAC personnel don't like it when coming to fix the thermostat. The Google technicians are generally not knowledgeable and don't know their own system when you call them up, which makes no sense. Not recommended.

    I hate nest!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I hate nest. No matter if you disable the learning and disable the away detect it always makes your house too hot. I've even set the temp manually in the program to be 69 max and it always turns it back up. You cannot set the away temp below 75 which just totally sucks. I know this sounds strange but I want to be able to control the temperature of my house... If you are trying to save energy this is probably a great thermostat for you but if you don't care about saving energy and want to be comfortable there is no way to make this thing work.

    Worked Great Until it Died

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

These were great until they died. Right around the 6-month mark, one of our thermostats lost Wifi connectivity. I have spoken to 5 support reps and received authorization to replace the device, but still cannot get Nest to ship out a replacement. The Google/Nest support experience is absolutely horrendous. These devices are great while they work, but as soon as you have issues, be prepared for a serious support headache.

This was literally the biggest waste of money i ever purchased!!! It randomly turns off and on, will turn on the AC and not the fan, I have spent hours on customer service and the answer usually being, well, we don't know, and when I had an actual AC repair company come out, they told me the Nest was the problem. This thing has cost me hundred of dollars in wasted electricity. Do yourself a favors, avoid it at ALL costs.

    Don’t buy this

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Your better off with a standard thermostat. This stupid thing makes my house too cold or too hot. I set the heating to 67 degrees, it won’t turn on until 65 degrees (its freaking cold) then when it finally turns on it heats to 69 degrees (Waaay too freaking hot to sleep it wakes us up) so I’m constantly turning the temperature up and down when it’s supposed to be doing it for you. It sucks dont buy it, I’ve had this too long to return it. Now I’m stuck with this expensive p0s thermostat.

Was working fine for 5 months then suddenly disconnected from the internet. It would not reconnect and couldn’t find any wifi networks and just continued to search over and over again. Contacted Google and the only option for a replacement under warranty is to have them put a $250 hold on your account until they receive the faulty unit. Horrible customer service.

Auto Learning Feature is Detrimental to Health

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Auto Learning feature is terrible with this thermostat. Frequently when I set my heat to 70 in the house I would walk by later in the day to find that it reset itself to 60 or lower. Final straw was when I set the heat to 72 overnight and woke up to the house being 60 degrees. My four month old daughter was shivering in her crib and my wife and I came down with a minor cold waking up to that in the middle of winter in New Jersey. Do not buy this product. Ever.
