Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the Spectre x360's lightweight design, impressive battery life, and strong performance, particularly praising the speed of its solid-state drive. Many appreciate its compact size and the convenience of the touchscreen. While some users mention that the device can get warm during intensive use and that the fan can be noticeable at times, the positive feedback on its portability and elegant design outweighs these concerns for most buyers.

A very fast and stylish convertible laptop with metal construction. If you're an audio file, managing your mobile devises, you need this computer. I've listed to several other upper end computers; sounding dull and altered. "How can you monitor your music, if the signal is poor at a low level output?" The audio in this machine is very centered, within< .3db. channel balance, and flat response. Fast attack time and a very high signal-to-noise ratio. The speakers within the unit sound good, in-spite how small the drivers are.. Picture quality is nice, dark blacks and vivid colors. Pleasant to type on. Good battery storage for portable use. Nicely laid out ports.

After months of looking, i found it!

I have been looking for months to find the right laptop that offered portability, beautiful screen, thin bezels, good sound, etc. I have finally found it. Here are a few of my observations after only having the computer a couple days. Screen- The screen appears to be slightly on the warm side (color wise) but that isn't a bad thing. It is easier on the eyes and appears to make true representations of colors without going overboard and overdoing them. Blacks seem nice and inky and I noticed no major display imperfections . I am a total nut when it comes to backlight bleeding, dead/stuck pixels, etc and this one passed my test. I was concerned at first that this screen is just FHD and was initially looking for a 4k. After seeing this on display and using it for a while my concerns were completely squashed. The pixel density on this 13.3 display is more than adequate for my eyes. Now if i was going with at 15" or 17" version that would likely be a different story. Battery- Too early to tell on this one but from the reviews I have read, it shouldn't be an issue and after taking this to my brothers house last night to watch football I didn't bother bringing the charger with me. I believe I was down to about 65% when I left but that was with the screen on most of the time. Processor - One of my aforementioned buying requirements was to go with a new Kaby Lake processor as I wanted to future proof some. I was not disappointed. I opted for the i7 model. This thing feels snappy and it really blows me away. Memory- Not much to say here. I went with the 16gb model to future proof myself. DDR3 ram, meh. I wish it would have been dd4 on a flagship but you can't have it all! Sound- Volume is INCREDIBLE! It actually has quad listening ports. It sounds like two speakers on the top grille and there are 2 small ones underneath the keyboard. It's a thing of beauty on a laptop this small. As to be expected, bass is not strong and the sounds are a bit tinny but that's physics folks. Accessories- It came with a power brick with 2 options. One the brick just plugs directly into the wall. The second option gives you a longer cord to attach if you need some extra length or are limited for space near your outlet. There is no traditional charging port on this thing. You get a USB-C end on your power adapter which plugs into the USB-C port on the computer. HP also is nice enough to include a nice (leather of faux leather) sleeve to put the laptop in to keep it safe from minor scratches ad such. Ports- Two USB-C thunderbolt 3 ports on the right. Fantastic! This was a biggie for me. This leaves open the possibility to have one cord going to a docking station and running a external monitor, keyboard, ethernet, additional USB-A ports, etc. The great thing though is that unlike a certain computer company with a piece of fruit as its logo, they provide a USB-A 3.1 port on the left side so you don't have to buy an adapter for a wireless mouse, 3.0 external drive, etc. Why oh why the other company chose to eliminate completely, I will never know. Weight- Crazy light. Sits on my lap and balances nicely with very little weight. I had it last night sitting in bed but think I may have blocked one of the vents and it became very hot. I haven't noticed this any other time so I think it was just a fluke. Storage- This comes with a NVMe 512gb SSD. This thing is insanely fast, even among other SSD's. I looked at some benchmarks online and this thing screams! They didn't cheap out here. Conclusion- If you are still wondering whether to buy it, just do it if it fits your budget. I have a feeling this will be the laptop of 2016 or at least duke it out with the XPS 13 for the honors. That's all I can think of right now, if you have any questions, just post them and I will do my best to answer them. I will also update this as time allows if anything material changes with my review.

Through the years I've had more laptops than a Boy Scout's merit badges (DELL, Sony, IBM, Lenovo, Toshiba, HP). But this HP Spectre is THE best computer (desktop or laptop) I've had EVER. I learned, the hard way, when it comes to performance in a laptop (especially with the heavy Windows 10), don't go cheap. I didn't need the huge screen offered (I got the 14") but with the max 16 GB of memory and all the other good stuff...oh wow and what a difference. The SSD HD makes it even faster - the way it was intended. The only drawbacks I had is there's no HDMI port (only 1 regular fast USB, and 1 of the new faster micro USB ones) and that the lighted keyboard (which is awesome at night) during direct sunlight makes it hard to read the keys. I'm still giving it 5 stars because those are minor details that won't stop me from enjoying this amazing laptop.

I did quite a bit of research on ultrabooks before purchasing this one. I actually started out with a Razer Blade Stealth however I returned it due to some shoddy build quality issues. I narrowed the options down to a Lenovo Yoga and the Spectre X360. I went with the Spectre as the specs were great and it was a little less than the Lenovo. Also, I liked the aesthetics of the Spectre better. Pros; -Great size -Good looks -Great specs (I went with the i7/512SSD model) -NVME SSD -Screen looks good -Touch is responsive -Little to no fan noise -Decent keyboard -Back-lit keyboard -Converting to a tablet is useful -Decent speakers -Good battery life (8+ hours of real-world use) - Windows Hello camera is very cool Cons: -Keyboard contrast makes it hard to read in certain situations -Hinge could be a little stiffer -Track pad takes some getting used to Overall, I don't think you can go wrong with this device. It is absolutely one of the best in its category right now and I expect it to remain in that spot for some time to come. Considering a similarly priced XPS 13 is hundreds more - this is also a great value. Go buy one!

My wife is a teacher and does tutoring on the side. Her students that she tutors have to take a pretest and a post test. The kids love the size of this computer as it is their size. My wife loves this computer as it is fast, light and easy to carry with her other materials. She uses her phone to connect to the internet as many students don't have internet at home. This has been the perfect device for her.

Great laptop...almost exactly what I wanted

I have been using this laptop for a month now and absolutely enjoying it. It is the first "small" laptop and definitely the first 2in1 I have purchased. To my date, all my laptops have been desktop replacements. This one is light and easy to carry around. For that reason, I find myself using it for many more activities than with larger laptops. As for the 2in1 feature, I haven't used it as a tablet very much. I need to play with it more to get better a accustomed to what applications it is suited to. I almost purchased a Surface because I really wanted an active stylus which this doesn't support. I wanted to be able to take hand written notes. This would have made this laptop exactly what I wanted (and a five star rating). I purchased knowing it probably wouldn't be sufficient but was hopeful. By recommendation, I purchased a Meko stylus and am satisfied with occasional short hand written notes to markup documents, images, etc (I use Microsoft Office One Note frequently) and simple business/technical sketches, but it will not replace hand written notes in meetings or class. The tracking response of the stylus is fine but it appears the touch "resolution" is not high enough. If I hand write at a sufficiently slower pace, I can get sufficient fidelity in my handwriting, but taking notes requires speed. I have reverted to typing in meetings almost every time. Ports on this laptop are limited, 1 USB 3 and 2 USB-C with Thunderbolt. I do not consider this a negative just a tradeoff to size. However, I would expect most people to immediately purchase an adaptor of some flavor or another. I purchased a Mokin USB-C to USB 3/HDMI combo adapter and easily drive a second monitor at home (1080p) along with a combo wireless keyboard and mouse. I also use it for displaying presentations at work. I haven't pushed it real hard on intensive applications to date, but it feels very snappy and I don't foresee any issues. Additional note about adaptors... The laptop has no Ethernet port either. My workplace's wireless network is public only. To connect to the internal network, I must hardwire into it...thus requiring an adaptor. The battery life is great...almost. I don't believe it is a laptop hardware issue per se, but I haven't investigated the root problem. When I have my Bluetooth headset paired with the laptop, the processor (seemingly randomly) will run at a constant 30% which drains the battery in a couple hours if unnoticed. With the headset disconnected, I have used it all day (6-8 hrs) doing normal office functions without a power cord (including driving a projector for meetings). The only gripe(s) I have is the pressure sensitivity of the hand rest below the keyboard. If I'm being lazy and resting my wrists heavily (doesn't have to be real heavily mind you) while typing, it seems to activate the touch pad so my cursor will appear to jump randomly at times. I have to remind myself to lift my wrists while typing. A related but more easily managed dislike is the touch pad always being active. On other laptops, when you plug in an external pointing device (i.e. mouse), it disables the touchpad...not the case here. The touch pad is always active. If you accidentally brush the touch pad while typing...same issue. Over all, I would recommend this laptop to a friend. If it performs sufficiently when I standup a hyper-v virtual machine or two (you have to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro), I will highly recommend it to a friend. Hope this was helpful.

Waited patiently for the new MacBook Pros. Sadly, the dated specs and increased price drove me to consider a Windows 10 laptop. Tried many from Dell, ASUS, Acer, Samsung, HP and Lenovo. From build quality to specs and performance, the new (October 2016) HP Spectre x360 w 7th gen Core i7 processor, 16GB memory and 512GB pcie-based SSD just crushes everything. The good news is there are lots of great machines to choose from as we near the end of 2016. I happen to like this one best. At $1,199.00 it's about a grand less expensive than a similarly spec'd (and using a 6th gen CPU) MacBook Pro. I'm a long time Mac OS user and was worried that switching to Windows 10 would be a pain. It hasn't been. The HP Spectre feels just as well made and Windows 10 with a full touch screen is really solid and useful. I'm liking almost everything about it. My one concern is around battery life--it's nowhere near the 14 hours claimed by HP. But, it still lasts all day so I'm sticking with my 5-star rating.

I started out looking to buy a Lenovo Yoga. urther research led me to the HP Spectre x360. The specs were exactly what I was looking for. Lots of storage and RAM. The screen is beautiful. It's the perfect size for reading music when I teach students. It folds easily and turning it so the screen is in portrait view, a full page is viewable and as clear and sharp as needed for easy reading. The sound is surprisingly good although I use a bluetooth speaker when teaching. The battery life is terrific. The device is easily transportable as it is very light and thin. I have no regrets at all making this purchase. It easily surpasses my the expectations I had.

I go this laptop the day it was released, and I really like the design of it. It is very fast and has very good loud speakers. It has very good battery life 6 to 8 hours. The fan noise, when it comes on, is really loud and annoying. It would come on even without heavy load on the laptop.

I wavered for a long time before purchasing this, but am glad I did. Bought it to replace an older and much slower 13" HP laptop. Needed a laptop I could use for work and personal use. I can take it traveling or on the job site with out problems. A little weary about the reviews on battery life. Only had an issue once and found out I had the back lit key board on and did not fully shut down the computer ever sense I have had no issues. I can get 8hr of intermittent use with out problem It can get a little warm with hard use but nothing unusual for any lap top. The two negatives is no SD card slot I use this for work and need to upload photos from a camera, I also wish it had one more standard USB port. If you have a wireless mouse than you have no open USB port except the micro ports. I have a little problem holding it in the tablet mode with out touching the screen but that is a matter of learning how to hold it.

Very happy with this laptop. Performance is excellent, look is sleek, battery life is excellent, weight is great. Only downside for me is that it is has been more difficult than I had hoped to properly synchronize with my iPhone and iPad--but it's not an Apple product so I guess you just can't expect seamless synchronization, like you get when you have all Apple products.

I bought my x360 after having a year's experience with my wife's previous model Spectre. With exception of the trackpad that she replaced with a Bluetooth mouse she has been thrilled with it. Initially I bought the Lenovo 910 for its 14inch screen that fits more or less in a 13 inch body but when I got it home and matched it with the HP it felt ackward in form (screen is beautiful but has huge bottom bezel). The newest HP cut down on the bezel and is noticeably smaller than last year's. There are subtle but significant improvements in the size and form. Track pad also reacts better. New feature Face recognition is a bit inconsistent but maybe it's just my face. The only complaint is the reduction in USB A slots, HDMI and SD all of which my wife's had. Lenovo was the exact same in this new minimalistic approach that lets you carry a dongle with you when needed. The power cord was also redisigned to reduce size. The computer is fast and has been running smoothly for a few months now since I've bought. Really pleased with the HP and would definitely recommend it.

It's lightweight, looks nice, and it's fast... and I got a great deal at Best Buy!! I had actually bought a Yoga & a Dell (with great reviews and I returned both of them!!) I have had this one for a month now. This screen is so clear, I like that it came with a leather sleeve to carry it around like a notebook. I multitask and have a bunch of windows & programs open for work, school, & personal stuff and it doesn't miss a beat. Even switching between tablet, tent, and laptop modes there are no issues. (The Yoga would freeze and lag terribly). This has totally replaced my tablet, which now sits collecting dust!! I love this 2 in 1... I looked forever to find the perfect one for me. I read every review out there and I am so glad I got this one. I highly recommend it! 2 cons (and this is just being extremely picky). Powering up can be a little slow at times, but it's probably more Windows than the computer ... still super fast. And it does get a little hot after extended use. But other than that great buy!

I reviewed and compared the other convertible 2-in-1s with the new 7th gen processors, such as the dell, yoga 710 and 910, acer switch, even the HP envy online at Costco. This HP is best overall in that it is thin, light, has thunderbolt 3 usb C ports (yoga has usb c but they are not thunderbolt), has windows hello infrared camera cabability, 16gb memory (would have preferred DDR4), and 512 gb NVMe drive, and long battery life. Cons: DDR3 memory, no 1TB drive options, no 4K display option (however battery life would decrease with that) I have had the product for over 1 week and no problems. It is fast, responsive, screen looks great, and does get occasionally warm but not too hot. I wouldn't let the heat dissuade me from purchasing as that has been raised as a concern.

Being my first review on the Best Buy Website, I will try to cover as much as possible to help you make your decision when looking at this device. I purchased this laptop with several hours of research between this one, the Dell XPS 13, and the MacBook 13" with Touch Bar. Being the cheapest option out of the three, I decided to give this laptop a chance. Pros: - Has 7th Generation Intel i7 Processor - Great Keyboard - Good Design (mainly) - The bottom bezel of the screen is huge. We're talking at least 1 inch. They have to have this so large to reinforce the laptop due to it being a convertible product. - Is light & thin, being very portable - Has 1 legacy USB-A port, along with two USB-C ports, which is nice. Cons: - Graphics, being only an HD display, with it shipped at a zoom of 150%, simply looking at the Device Manager in Windows appeared blurry to me. - Bezels are much more apparent than many competitors - Laptop is shipped with tons of HP software (as expected) - Fans are very loud and audible even while idling (I'll explain this in depth below) Simply due to the price of the laptop and this laptop being one of HPs top of the line devices, I expected the laptop to be silent most of the time. I didn't expect to hear fans running while looking at my desktop, browsing the internet, checking my email, etc. But I did. Due to this laptop being purchased over the holidays, I luckily had an extended time to review this laptop, which I am glad I had. I feel as if I only had the standard 15 days, I would've kept the device and regretted it later. The biggest issue has yet to come, before returning the device, I decided to preform Window's Factory Reset function to officially clear the device of my files. For like 5-10 minutes it preformed as it should and as it came to an end, a message came up saying that something went wrong, I clicked the continue button, this is when the laptop restarted and began a boot loop (where the laptop turns on to HPs logo, then restarts before Windows boots and constantly repeats the cycle) . Because of the amount of noise the laptop made, the not-so-great graphics(screen), and Windows not being able to preform basic functions such as resetting the device to factory settings, I decided to return the laptop. If you happen to check this laptop out, I would urge you to properly test the laptop before your return period is up with to see if any of the cons above apply to you. In the end, I rate this laptop 1/5 stars for the amount of issues I had with it. I think I am going to pay a little more money and check out other products with other manufacturers. I welcome HP to reach out to me so I can discuss these issues with them, but for others, if you try this laptop, definitely test it out before your window for return is up.
