My laptop broke and I was unable to retrieve my pictures and documents. With this hard drive enclosure I was able to transfer all my pictures and documents to my new laptop. I'm a very happy camper now!!

I bought this after my last laptop died and I wanted to salvage the old hard drive. After I installed the HDD into the enclosure and backed up my old files, this new external hard drive was repurposed for storing my photos. Easy installation.

The product did not meet my expectation. The USB cable was faulty; I had to hold it in a certain position for my computer to recognize it. I could not use the product for the intended purpose. Computer could not resolve to recognize the hard drive.

This thing is awesome. Came with all the tools I needed to get it open and it's nicely secured inside and it's made out of a good material that can get banged up and it will still be ok

I replaced my old hard drive with a SSD and I'm glad someone recommended this to me for my old drive. It lets it run as an external hard drive which is convenient should the SSD fail.

I needed this to recover files from my laptop when it died, it took far longer to remove the drive from my laptop than to put it into this case, and now I have a quick, USB3, drive now.

While the housing did work as advertised, getting the drive out of it was challenging. If you are planning on buying it and leaving the drive in it, then it is a 5 star housing. If you need to swap drives, it is probably a 2 or 3.

Could not be easier! The included tools make assembly a breeze. My only concern is that the hard drive is connected to the SATA assembly but nothing else seems to hold it in place.

I purchased this product to rescue data from a failed hard drive. It did not work, but I later found out that the hard drive had firmware problems so it wasn't Insignia's fault. I decided to keep it in case I had other failures, but I thought I should probably test it first on hard drives that I know are working well. It turns out that the Insignia interface only recognized 2 out 6 drives that I know work fine and was not able to read data from any of the six. Best Buy exchanged the product with a different one so I cannot say if the problem was with the individual device I purchased or is part of a bigger design flaw.

When you need extra space on your device, this is the perfect solution. Its great to take to school or work when you need to work on something that is not on your main device.

PC "dropped" in the tub by my 4yo niece, but with this, I was able to recover all data, programs, files, etc. Reasonably priced as well. More importantly, what I thought was lost forever is now uploaded on my new "refurbished' laptop :).

So far so good. I purchased this back in January 2016 and no issues yet. Reads & writes fast, HD is secure, and with about 8 months of weekly use it still works like new.

Someone suggested we us this to retrieve data from our dead laptop. It was very straight forward. Even I understood it as a senior and did not need to call my grandson..!

Did exactly what it was suppose to do without any problems. Drive only attaches to the circuit board so you have to careful connecting the drive and not crack the board

Pulled my HD from my Crashed Laptop and was able to access the data on the HD, since the laptop had a Hardware issue and not a HD issue. I now have a TB portable HD.

The case itself is pretty good and secure, would be better if you could take it apart without needing a screw driver... The biggest downfall is the cost, at $30, you could get something else for $15 or even $10...

I have tried several of these enclosures. Out of four I have one that works and continues to work. Main problem is the cable supplied isn't coiled in packaging but folded an bent tight at the folds. It is also doesn't make good contact at the plug in at the enclosure. Returned this one due to poor connectivity if you move the enclosure during use. Note recommended.

My laptop died recently, and I was delighted to be able to salvage the 1tb harddrive that I had purchased only two months ago.

A little cumbersome to take apart, but only have to do it once, so it's acceptable. Works as advertised to turn a 2.5" HDD or SSD into a portable USB 3 drive.

After installing the SSD I placed my old laptop drive into this USB 3.0 drive enclosure. A simple process and now I have an external 500 GB drive for backup.
