It worked for an hour, then the port got all janky and wiggly. Kept disconnecting, then reconnecting without even being touched. I'm not exaggerating. Literally an hour and it was falling apart. Returned it and got a better one. You get what you pay for...

My laptop had died and a computer repair shop wanted over $200 just to repair the screen. I called Insignia tech support and they suggested this as a solution. It was affordable and very simple to do! The enclosure case is sleek and durable. I now have all my old files with plenty of extra storage still left on my old hard drive.

I purchased 3 different ones of this and they all failed. They kept disconnecting. Was able to return them. thank you for good customer service.

My 2.5" HDD was to big for the enclosure so I returned it.

I picked this up along with a Sandisk 240G SSD - 2 screws to open it up and plug the SSD in. With large files, I received 150MB/s read write over the USB 3 connection. I tested it with my Surface 3 Pro with its internal SSD and the throughput may be affected by the Surface and it's SSD speed. I haven't tested it with of my other machines which have SSDs too.

I purchased in store. The price is a little steep, but when I got it home I realized it was made of aluminum. Very easy to put together. Includes everything you need aside from a hard drive. Flawless functionality.

I had an extra 500 GB laptop drive sitting in a closet after having replaced it with a higher capacity drive in a MacMini. I came to need a portable hard drive and found this. It is well-built and works great. The only complaint I might have is that the drive is effectively cantilevered inside the case from its attachment to the board which is at the front of the drive. Due to this, the normal vibrations that a spinning drive will make tend to get amplified and the case can rattle quite loudly when placed on a hard surface. I solved this by attaching 3/8" felt pads (which can be bought at any home store) to the drive both on top and bottom which cushion the drive against the case.

I bought this product after figuring out the right type of the hard drive ports. It worked very well and can be plugged in to any devices (must be a usb port of 3.0. It will not work on any extended usb ports with 2.0). Just be very careful with the hard drive enclosures, sometimes you may slot things in a wrong place. Still, this is far the most expensive hard drive enclosures I've bought.

We bought this in an attempt to recover our hard drive, but we were unable to use it. The drive enclosure was fairly easy to use though.

Got this item for my daughter to use as an extra drive to store her photos. Working great.

When I switched my hard drive to an ssd, I used this case to place the old hard drive as a back up to my 2008 MacBook.

It was painful to give up my old Toshiba laptop b/c XP is no longer supported. I have a large hard drive with important data and plenty of disk space to spare. I easily connected the HD, popped it into the enclosure, & was ready to go. I use it seamlessly with my Macbook & Macbook Air. The enclosure is sturdy as are both connections. It's well made and inexpensive.

The small enclosure is hefty, and it comes with a small screwdriver and USB cable. I had the same intermittent connection issues as reported by others, and narrowed the problem down to the cable. Luckily I had two other USB cables lying around to replace it with and the problems went away. This enclosure is otherwise fine.

I retired a 250GB SSD and bought this so I could still get some use out of it. The enclosesure is small and very easy to setup. It made a great portable drive out of a SSD that would have ended up on a shelf somewhere.
