We had an urgent need for fast storage space and bought this along with a SSD. It comes with a screwdriver which was awesome for assembling in the field (since I forgot to grab one when I left the office). It is sturdy and works as advertised.

I can't say I have any major issues with this enclosure. I just wish it didn't use screws to hold everything together. It is of solid construction otherwise and it did the job, so overall not a bad purchase. Just a bit overpriced for what you get...

I bought this hard drive enclosure to house a new solid state drive so I could clone my laptop's drive. Installation was quick and easy. The cloning process was surprisingly fast and painless. Afterwards I removed the solid state drive from the case and switched it out with my original laptop drive and installed the old drive into this case where it will be used for back up storage.
The case worked perfectly with both the solid state and regular disk drive. Installation is a simple plug and play and the USB 3.0 is noticeably faster than USB 2.0.

Easiest recovery for a dead Asus Laptop that wouldn't start. Able to access all data and backup to my My Book external drive. Now I can use the drive I removed from the laptop as backup drive as well.

I purchased this when my new Dell laptop decided it wasn't going to power up. I have to send the whole unit in with the hard drive in it and there was no way to back it up since it wouldn't come on. Bought this little tool, snapped in the hard drive out of the laptop, copied the whole drive to an external hard drive and I was set. Very handy device to have around if you have multiple laptops.....

If you have a drive laying around somewhere but don't really need/want to stick it into a laptop or desktop, this is a good option.

Assemble would have gone smoother had I read the instructions. Fit perfect once I took off the mounting bracket from the laptop.

Works, but not without issues

Easy to install, and easy to use. This is just an observation I made in terms of my issue with it.
The drive I used with it was rated at 850mA, for power input. USB 3.0 ports supply around 1 full amp to what is plugged into it, which is a little greater than the what the drive was rated, so I assume the drive shutdown under load because of this, because it idled just fine.
It works great under USB 2.0, but you'll get a max transfer speed of 480Mb/s compared to about that of USB 3.0's 5Gb/s. 500mA output per USB 2.0 port doesn't seem to hurt anything. So if you have only USB 2.0, which is most computers today, you likely won't have an issue with product. However USB 3.0, though out for quite some time, is becoming more apparent and seems to have issues. So overall, it is more stable under USB 2.0 than USB 3.0.

Product is as said in overview except there was no SuperSpeed USB 3.0 cable AC adapter. Glad the power cord from another external drive worked except when trying to use both at same time is not possible

My computer died but wanted to keep the 1TB hard drive so I purchased this notebook HDD enclosure. It was very easy to install the drive in the enclosure and it's recognized as another drive on the computer.
