Intermittently lost it's connection

But after using it for about 3-5 minutes it would "unexpectedly eject". I have a brand new Macbook Pro and wanted to import data from my old Macbook Pro drive. The drive would stay active for about 3-5 minutes, then I would get a message that the external drive experienced an "unexpected ejection". It appeared that it didn't have enough power to keep the drive going. I tried it in the other USB port and it did the same thing. I find it hard to believe the port's are weak in power. I will try a different brand enclosure; if it does the same thing I will get a device that is self powered.
I never had trouble with the drive while it was in the old computer, so I don't believe it could be the drive.

The advertisement is a flat out lie

The box said it would support any 2.5 hard drive but it does not support 15mm height drives. They should change the advertising as it is simply not true.

Absolute piece of trash. Failed within the first day of use. Unfortunately, I unboxed it at work and the box and receipt were picked up overnight. Otherwise, it'd be back at the store.
Currently, it's serving its only useful purpose: doorstop.

I purchased this device to connect an extra SSD drive to my notebooks. The quality, for $30, is unacceptable. The USB connector does not fit snugly, so the connection drops. I would not buy again.

It's held up OK over the two months I've been used it. However, the port on the outside of the enclosure has a short. If I move the enclosure it tends to disconnect from my laptop.

So I am just like the rest. My drive worked for 3 minutes and then no more. Does not spin up drive now. Put another drive in thinking maybe my drive faild or was burned out but no, the other drive did not work in the enclousure either. Besides it not be recognized by the computer you can tell the unit does not spin up anymore. Bestbuy should do the honorable thing and pull the product. There are to many products they are selling that do not do what they claim.

Hi.
I'm extremely sorry to read that this device gave you such an unsatisfactory experience. However, our line of assembly and quality control changed a lot on the last couple of years. Today's versions of this product should not present this issue at all.

Doesn't work - Randomly ejects

I also have the same problem with the derive being ejected randomly. The first time I tried copying a few GB of data to it, the drive ejected and then reconnected in the middle of the copy. I haven't had any problems with any other USB drive before. It will be going back to BB today.
My system details...
Computer: Clevo P370EM
OS: Ubuntu GNOME 14.04
Port: USB 3.0
Storage Type: Samsung SSD

1st off, this is the same one as the Dynex- 2.5" Serial ATA Hard Drive Enclosure - Black, just with the insiginia brand on it. Both Best buy house brand. I got this because i needed to perform a back up on my macbook pro to swap the HDD and it just kept shutting off by it self while i was doing the back-up. Turning off and turning on. I returned with in the hour of me wasting my money. Do not buy. Do not waste your money. Do not pass go.

Must be a bad control unit! It dismounts the hard drive during the formatting process! After that it repeats mounting and dismounting the disk over and over again. I tried several disks ( including a brandnew intel 530 ) over multiple platforms (win7, win8, mac) and the problem persists. The only time I managed to format a hard drive with this enclosure, it failed me while I was creating a new folder! It is ridiculous.

Absolute Failure

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
After about 2-3 minutes of plugging this thing into my MacBook Pro (which has USB 3.0 ports) it randomly ejects the drive over and over again. At first I thought it may have been the hard drive but then I tried 2 other hard drives with the same results. I used my old USB 2.0 enclosure and all those same hard drives work perfectly fine, so without a doubt its this Insignia enclosure thats the problem. Lesson learned, read reviews before you buy.

Can read but not write

After installing my hard drive I was able to see my files but received "disconnected" errors when trying to add files to the drive. I was able to continue to navigate through my folders, on the drive, and see my files even after the errors. I returned the unit and tried again with a replacement. It had the same issues. After switching to a different brand I was able to read and write files so I know the issue wasn't with the hard drive.
