I had been looking for a way to digitize not only home VHS & Hi-8 video, but also motion picture films. The Toshiba VCR protects the content via HDCP, so it was impossible to get "Mrs. Doubtfire" onto a DVD. What a ripoff (no pun intended) But with this Ion product, I could even use the EZcap software to get some more use out of the 8mm camera --- withOUT using any film! Because I can hook it up, and capture live video, as well. Looking forward to getting quite a bit of use out of this. The applications are many, I mean, imagine capturing video game play(if you have no other way to share your replays), or do multi-cam (multiple camera angles) for home video, and maybe even using it as your Tivo. It could basically turn your monitor into a picture in picture (I mean, if you wanted to see TV output on your computer screen). As depicted in the product picture, it's only S-Video and yellow/red/white composite inputs. Does what it says. It only gets 4 stars out of 5 because software included is not the most intuitive, nor is it very robust at all. However, Out of the thousands of dollars worth of things I bought this summer, this little $43 piece of equipment is the only thing I DIDN'T take back to the store for return to get all my money back.

I mean, it does the job. My wife asked for our wedding videos to be converted to DVD. I have been wanting to do this as well but did not want to just get the 1:1 conversion form the local shop. so, I got this and began to convert my old videos in my office late at nights. Actually got a decent DVD of our wedding and reception for my wife, but I was also able to get some other home videos to the PC so we could share with the kids. All in all, easy to use product. USB is going to require a decent PC setup though as the CPU is going to be doing the work during playback. I used an older ATOM the first time around and the video froze once or twice.... I would still buy it again and plan on using it again to finish my other videos off.

The Ion Audio Video to PC Converter is a good device to convert your old format videos to digital. Makes the conversion process easy. The only issue I have with the device is when you use it with a Mac. The software included works well for Windows but does not work with MAC. Other than that, this device works very well and I am happy with my purchase.

Easy to use with the software provided, only on windows 7,, I had many issues trying to use it on my windows 10 computer (freezes up, won't load properly, error messages)

The device works and is easy to install and copy vids. However it sometimes recognizes that my home vids r copyrighted! It stops recording and I have to press record again and the video ends up being broken into pieces with a couple seconds missing. That's really annoying when u hope to record and leave it for two hours to come back and see it stopped recording. It only did that for one VHS tape however so I don't know why that happened.

I would have rated a 5 except that it is a pretty advanced piece of software to edit with unless you are a highly knowledgeable video person. Otherwise it is a simple interface to get a basic copy made of your old videos. I was able to get all of my videos onto PC in just a few day. Job done and I can do more with them when I have the time.

VHS to the computer for DVD, but it did not work well for the purpose that I needed. I was attempting to go straight from the HD Camcorder to my Mac. Once I started recording, the video froze. Additionally, after the video was finally recorded and saved, it could not be opened. May work well on a PC, but just didn't work for me.

I bought to convert old videos to digital format, overall good product, Easy to use and gets the job done. Attached to VCR and to Camera via RCA then USB to my computer. worked great , Software was okay for simple edits etc but they try to sell you upgrade for more features.

Does exactly what it says. Transferred all of my old home movies to digital and they come out fine. Only bad thing is, the software they give you is not the most recent release. Other than that this thing works like a champ.

This device was easy to hook up with a USB 2 cable. (note: you should unplug the cable when not being used because device heats up). There are cable connections that go to my VCR (3 rca's). The software installed quickly enough and I started recording a VCR tape. The problem is that the VCR tapes are relatively old and already not in good shape and even though the software has "fixing" features on it, the final 2hour DVD's I burned came out pixelated at times and having poor focus on the non-close-up scenes from the VCR tape. I still am not sure whether I should put less data on a DVD disc or try more "fixing" with the software. I am still working with this.... Good luck, if you buy this....

This product did everything it said it would do plus more being able to use it to switch analog to digital was a great thing! I had no problem installing on the Windows 7 machine, but I did have problems installing it on a Windows 8 machine. I don't know if it'll work on windows 10 machine. overall the product did what it said it would do. when I tried to call for the help as it asked me to I could not get a human

I have transferred a VHS and a 8MM video onto my PC using this. The hardware is simple to use. But the software that comes with this is not user friendly. I am somewhat techie but have spent hours and hours to configure a DVD to be burned. The capturing of the videos is easy. There just doesn't seem to be any tutorials or instructions on how to use the software. That is the only issue that I have with this.

Very easy to make simple DVD's from Hi-8 tapes, but you won't want to stop there. It will take more of your time to understand how to enhance your results.

Super easy to install on both Mac and Windows. It works with all types of VHS players and Dvd/Blu-ray players. Making a menu is practically done without you trying. A couple clicks and your memories are preserved in practically every way you could want.

Uses a lot of hard disk space, but this is due to high frame capture rate and video upscaling. Burned old kids movies from Hi8 camcorder, and the product works very well for the money spent. One thing to note, unless you have very powerful pc, I wouldn't perform other tasks while encoding, it seems to increase lost frames.

I bought this due to the fact I had my camcorder stolen a long time ago and I had old MiniDV cassettes which I had memories on and wanted to transfer them. I borrowed a camcorder from a friend and was able to quickly and easily transfer the videos onto my computer and from there burn onto a DVD. Excellent choice and easy to use. The price is also easy on the eyes as well.

Good product. Does exactly what it says. Only nitpick I have is the software is an older version and clunky.

It does not do the right job I was expecting, it keeps freezing and drops too much frames.After recording I have to open with different media player in this case I have to load the VLC media player software in order to watch the video.

I have recorded many family VHS tapes and burned the contents on DVDs, and am very happy with the results. I have also copied a few shows from our DVR and burned them to DVD. The PowerDirector software that comes with it has plenty of features to edit and produce your videos, create slideshows, etc. I've also used it to edit digital videos from a digital camcorder and camera, with very good results. The included software is Version 9 and free, but Cyberlink offers pretty good deals for upgrading to a newer version.
