I'm starting to hate the brand
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second purchase of iRobot brand. I had to return the first, due to a sudden software crash and ended up buying another as that's the only brand of robovac I could buy with store credits. Worst app and software ever. The automation is no better than a highschool project. Waste of money. I strongly wonder if there is any testing done on the software or the sensor efficiency.

Great cleaner, but a little noisy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, this did a fantastic job cleaning my hard floors and my carpet. I watched it going, and it switched seamlessly back and forth between mopping and vacuuming. it returned to the base a little more frequently than I expected to wash the mop pads. It was also a lot noisier than I expected, both when mopping and when washing the pads. You're definitely not going to want to schedule cleaning during the night. You'll want to run it when you're out of the house. Setup was easier than the last Roomba I had, though the initial software update took forever to install. The app said it should be about 20 minutes, but it was much closer to an hour. The initial mapping was quick because it mostly relied on lidar rather than having to bump into everything as it felt its way around. It was also much easier to tailor the map to the rooms and areas you will want to clean separately. It takes an initial stab at identifying rooms, but you can merge rooms or split rooms. At the end of the clean, it also empties the dustbin in the robot into a bag in the base, extending the amount of time before you have to dispose of the collected dirt. All-in-all, this is a huge improvement from the last model I owned and a huge convenience for anyone who has both hard flooring and carpets or rugs.

Didn’t even get a chance to see if it cleans
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tried 3 times to create a map and it never did. Cleaning is not even an option without creating a map first, so I didn’t even get a chance to see if it cleans. Support sucks, I just didn’t have time to invest in trying to get it fixed when I just got it out of the box. Returning it.

A Handy Time Saving Roomba Robot Vacuum/Mop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The iRobot Roomba 405+ Combo Robot Vacuum and Mop with Autowash Dock - Black arrived in perfect condition and was easy to unbox and set up. It comes with dual spinning mop pads and an Autowash dock that cleans the pads after each use. An extra set of pads are in the box for use when the first pads wear out. The Roomba Robot self-empties for 75 days, has intense suction, pad washing and drying, pad lift and a self-mapping Lidar for laying out rooms to be cleaned. A Roomba Robot application is available for use with your smartphone and allows you to select what rooms you want to be cleaned and when. Some rooms with heavier traffic can be set up for more frequent cleaning than other less used rooms. The Roomba Robot should be fully charged first out of the box. Once fully charged, next step is to let the Roomba Robot map your entire house even if you will be selectively cleaning some spaces more than others. Once mapped, you can choose what you want to be cleaned, set up a schedule for cleaning and change it as needed. Make sure to pick up any obstacles such as wires, boxes, and other things that might interfere with mapping the entire house. Mapping time will depend on the size of the house, room configurations to be mapped, generally around 30 minutes. Once fully mapped its time to clean. This is the third Roomba Robot I have owned and it is the best one I've had so far. It gets things much cleaner than my older units and has many more features than prior units, especially the Lidar mapping function. I highly recommend this IRobot Roomba 405+ to you!

A really great robot vacuum mop combo that works!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a really great vacuum and mop robot combo. It was easy to setup right out of the box. I was ready to go within 5 minutes, and most of that was due to an update, which is to be expected with anything software based nowadays. I set it up via the app. The voice on the dock is a nice touch too, it tells you what it's doing or about to do so you can prepare. The mapping process was also fast, like really fast. I expected it to take 30-45 minutes to map my home, but inside of 10 minutes it had already mapped the home, it didn't need to go through every nook and cranny, it was able to quickly determine the size of each or room and create a map I could easily edit. And then it was time to clean! It is a truly a combination, I see it vacuuming and mopping simultaneously which is a huge time saver. It is also doing so in a really organized fashion - going in straight lines across multiple rooms where there is door/entryway access, making it a much faster and efficient process. It also goes back to the dock when needed to empty the dirt and get more mopping solution if needed. And then it goes right back to where it was, directly and not haphazardly, and continues mopping. It also does a really great job of detecting the area rugs and carpets in my home, automatically lifting its mop pads so it doesn't mop the carpets but continues vacuuming. Overall, this is the best robot vacuum and mop combo I've ever owned. I highly recommend it!

Decent but a bit pricey
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The dock is mostly designed well. It’s easy to assemble and has a small nook where you can store spare debris bags along with a set of spare (included) mopping pads. One area where the design lacks is excess cord storage. They designed storage into the back of the unit, but the power cord doesn’t fit in the guides very well, although it does accomplish the task so there’s that. Overall performance is pretty good. It definitely gets edges better than my previous Eufy vac, including under the cabinet toe kicks, which my Eufy was never able to figure out. I also prefer the straight back-and-forth pattern that the Roomba uses, as opposed to what appears to be pure randomness of some other vacs. It does a really good job distinguishing between carpet and hard surface for mopping. The Plus 405 should be able to easily handle your day to day upkeep, freeing you up to only perform periodic manual cleaning to get a few nooks & crannies. Noise level is acceptable. I’ve owned several robot vacs and the Plus 405 is about in the middle when it comes to noise levels. The robot itself is fairly quiet in operation. Not quiet enough to have it running while you’re sleeping or trying to watch TV in the same room, but not so loud that it’s a distraction running throughout the house while I’m in my office working. When it returns to dock is when it gets a bit noisier. The debris emptying is quieter than the J9, but still makes quite a racket. The mop washing stage isn’t overly loud, but the suction & gurgling noise is a bit annoying. The mop drying stage isn’t bad at all & you could easily watch TV while it’s drying. All said, it’s definitely not noisy enough for me to go back to manual vac & mop! Object detection & avoidance could be improved. I put a charging cable out in a couple of spots and the Roomba just ran right over it, although it didn’t get tangled up, so not a total fail. I also threw some flour on the floor in one spot, to see how well it cleaned, and it must have thought some of it was an object to be avoided because it went right around the pile. Hopefully that’s something they’ll improve on over time. It also struggled a bit with some other objects, as it got stuck on an exercise bike foot as well as a bathroom scale. The Roomba Plus 405 isn’t compatible with the iRobot app that I already use for my Roomba J9+, so I had to download the new Roomba Home app. Okay, fine, I’ll just start using the new app. Nope. The Roomba Home app doesn’t support the Roomba J9+, so now I have to keep two iRobot apps installed. Seriously?? Ever heard of backwards compatibility? The Roomba Home app also needs a little more time to mature. On the plus side, it opens up right away to a ‘Where would you like to clean today?’ prompt, along with a handful of ‘cards’ which show the last few sessions or Routines that you’ve used. If you typically clean the same room (or rooms) frequently, you could easily get things going in two taps. The app also makes it easy to create Automations (schedules) for routine cleaning. One area where the app falls short is in map editing. When you’re adding clean or no-go zones, it’ll let you zoom in on the map after you click the add zone button, but then it won’t let you pan/move the map from there. This can make it difficult to position the zone where you want it.

Finally two machines become ONE! With compromises.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been wondering when it would finally happen - Being a fan of both the Roomba and Brava series of iRobot cleaners, having two existing Roombas (a 600 and 900 series) and more recently introducing the Brava, I wondered when installing the latter, when we'd see an all-in-one system, understanding that the floor cleaning abilities would have to have a way to "deactivate" when dealing with non-hard floors as Roomba would travel to. My wonder was satiated when iRobot released their new 405 and 505-series cleaners. Not only did they combine the wet cleaning abilities of the Brava line, but coupled with the vacuum gives this a full service mopping function, where the Brava was more of a, "Automated Swiffer" of sorts. The packaging is big for the 405 I had shipped here, but is thoughtfully almost entirely cardboard and easily broken down for recycling, compared to the colorful and styrofoam-laden packaging of models past. This was a nice touch that didnt take away from the premium feel to the unboxing experience. Getting the device out and set up only took a few minutes and the assembly was self-explanatory, but was also illustrated on the packaging itself for those with less "new tech" intuition. The build quality of the device seems on-par with the more premium lines of years past, with some of the more advanced finishes on the device being replaced with new textures, that, while still give a premium look and feel when new, concern me a bit with long-term care, as I appreciated my former Roomba 960s glossiness and ability to be rubbed down with a Clorox wipe when it was soiled by the job it does - Not to mention it only had a DRY job - This new guy will be doing all things to all floors! I hope the textured top panel is as easy to get dirt and grime off of when things get messy in the field. The unit assembly was also intuitive - It seems to have a familiar single-whisker design with only a single roller/beater unit on the bottom, but the massive dual-action cleaning wheels for the mopping function needed somewhere to go (I also appreciated iRobot giving me a spare-pair in the box for when these need regularly washed so as to not put the unit out of service for any given time). There are a few things that I wish were different - Things I think I'll miss about the old cleaner: - The beaters/scrub heads on the bottom - These seemed easily replaceable and had a LARGE pickup surface when vacuuming that seemed to assist loosening dirt - Its hard to see at this point how this single bar will fare on cleaning QUALITY. - The new capture tank uses VACUUM BAGS instead of a canister to capture returned carpet dirt - This doesn't seem like the most ecological option, and Roombas of yore AND competitors have always opted for an open canister to collect in to eliminate waste. It's also, as we've learned from other competitors, a hinderance to suction, which is hard to measure in an automated vacuum. This seems like a money grab for iRobot, where I now need to buy new bags every month to keep this thing sucking optimally. Nice of them to include ONE SPARE to get me through this first week or two. The cleaner behaves much like our previous Roombas did on floors, doing a seemingly similar job on carpet, but the mopping is where this thing really shines. It clearly has better coverage than our little Brava did, and the rotary action seems to clean more thoroughly than the wet pad on the previous unit... But Brava seemed to actively identify stains and spills in a better way and we used to enjoy watching it see a stain and act as if its existence depended upon the elimination of it, where this new unit just scrubs over the spot, unconcerned with the results of the pass, almost convinced that a single pass would result in total cleanliness in all scenarios. The machine is a bit quieter than the 960 it replaced, but not by much, and not at ALL when you consider the evacuation of the dirt chamber into the tower dock - Thats a noise I'll never get used to, and wished there was more of a warning for (our Roomba sits in the dining area behind our living room so many an evening when its around cleaning and returns to dock to hear that motor fire up and go to work emptying the robot is a fun surprise. All in all, this is a nice improvement of the original Roomba design incorporating the Brava functionality, to some extent, but I need to continue to tweak the programming on the app and seek out tips and tricks (as well as supported bags and cleaning solution) to get a better idea of the mopping function over time and whether the simplicity outweighs the detail orientation of one of the two predecessors.

Everything you need in a robot vacuum/mop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Set up was easy and took maybe a maximum of 20 minutes. The longest part of the set up was waiting for the firmware to upgrade. The Plus 405 has a mop function with auto clean, and also has an auto-empty dust bin. Integration into Roomba Home's app is seamless. It found the robot in a few seconds, talked me though the wireless set up, and I was rolling. Initial mapping took about 15 minutes in my 2,000 square foot downstairs. Adjusting the map in the app was super simple. I only had to change one of the barriers that the auto-mapping had done, and then named all the rooms. I then sent the 405 on it's first cleaning run. It performed excellently. I like robot vacuums that have spinning cleaners for the mopping function versus the vibrating pads, as I feel like the spinning motion does a better job on hard floors. I do have some rugs here and there on the tile/wood floors, and the 405 auto-lifted the mop pads whenever it came in contact with them. No issues, no glitches, and the floors look amazing. I have two more expensive robot vacuum and mops, made by a different manufacturer, and the 405 holds its own easily.

Sleek and powerful cleaning tool
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.iRobot Roomba Plus 405 Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop + AutoWash Dock I got the Roomba 405 robot cleaner to replace an aging unit from a different manufacturer which had seen better days. After unboxing, I was impressed with the small footprint of the docking station. It is a relatively compact and sleek-looking unit that doesn’t stand out like a sore thumb and will fit about anywhere you choose to place it. Total assembly time was less than 10 minutes and was easy and straightforward. I appreciated that iRobot includes a spare set of mopping pads in the box. After getting everything where I wanted it and filling the water tank, it was time for the setup. I followed the clear instructions in the app and connected to my home network without issue (note that like many other smart devices, the Roomba only connects to the 2.4 band). The app then sent the robot off on a mapping run which, using Lidar technology, finished up in about 15 minutes. The resulting map was pretty good, although I did have to go in and manually split some of the areas as my home is somewhat open concept. I was also easily able to add “no-go” zones to keep the cleaner exactly where I wanted it. In contrast to other robot vacuums I have had in the past, the virtual walls seem to work quite well, and the Roomba treats them as it would any solid structure. After all of the setup was done, it was time for a cleaning run. I selected the options in the app for suction strength and mopping intensity and sent it off on its merry little way. (Once you get your preferences set, you can simply press the power button on the robot itself to initiate a cleaning cycle which is handy if you don’t want to pull out your phone or others in the house don’t have access to the app.) In contrast to other robots I’ve owned, this one is fairly quiet although it is much more powerful. The cleaning path also seemed much more logical and less neurotic/chaotic. The Roomba easily transitioned from hardwood, to tile, to area rugs, changing its suction power and lifting/dropping the mopping pads as needed. It did have to return to the station several times during the cycle, but I don’t mind that. I was impressed with the overall cleanliness of the floors once it got done. Like all others, don’t expect to have the same spotless surfaces you would if you were doing them manually, but if your expectations are reasonable, you will be more than impressed with the Plus 405. This is my fourth robot and second combo (vacuum/mop) and I have to say the ease of setup and use along with the quality of cleaning easily makes it my favorite. I’d highly recommend it.

Back and time saver
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been thinking to myself for several years about wanting to get myself a Roomba and after I put in new LVP flooring throughout the house, no time like now! The iRobot - Roomba Plus 405 truly is an amazing little machine. I named ours Rosie (from The Jetsons) and installed the base station into the kitchen. Getting everything set up was fairly easy and straight forward. Download the map, connect the robot and map out the rooms. The mapping process just does a general path, using the sensors to locate walls. I suggest moving any furniture that can be to allow for the most accurate map. Things like the kitchen chairs, coffee tables and the like. If there are any rooms you don't want this thing mapping, just close the door or place a barrier. The first couple of cleanings were a learning curve for both myself and Rosie. The robot bounced off table legs (from the pressure plate or sensors) and I wondered just how clean and where she'll be able to go. The kick plates under the cabinets, too low. Under the couch, gets stuck in one area with a sagging spring. You have options in the ap to just set a cleaning routine to run on the days and times you want, or you can run it as needed. Myself, having 2 cats, 1 dog and 3 kids in the house, there is no guarantee there isn't something on the floor that will mess things up. So, I run the routines from the ap, 1 room at a time after I do a quick glance through. The Roomba is a huge time saver. I get to keep the floors swept / vacuumed and mopped every day while focusing on other tasks. But the coolest thing to me? That would be when she returns to the base and empties out the vacuum bag into the base station! I just find that neat.

The app is frustrating
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Roomba 405 does a good job in everyday cleaning. This is the first fully automatic combo robot I’ve had experience and I am impressed with the performance. The suction and mop combo worked effortlessly on my vinyl floors and I 405 lifts the mopping pads when it detects it is on carpet. I understand this is par for the course on every vacuum mop combo but it was amazing to me. I have seen numerous comments relating to how the robot leaves the floor too wet after mopping, but I grew up in a household where a traditional mop was used and the floors would air dry. The complaint seems silly and is a non-issue for me. I love the fact that I am able to disable the physical buttons on the robot which prevents my toddler from turning on the 405 when I don’t want it turned on. What I don’t like is having to use a completely different app from the 2 other legacy Roombas I already have, this is an actual annoyance to me rather than the “overly wet” floors. The new Roomba app is clunky and frustratingly unintuitive. Setup lacks guidance, functions are inconsistently labeled, and the interface can feel cluttered. My wife didn’t know how to send the 405 back to the home base after stopping the cleaning routine. When I took a look it wasn’t a simple intuitive task, so I picked up the robot and manually put it on the base. Next, I had to reconnect the Roomba to Wi Fi twice within the first 4 days. I wasn’t notified that the robot had lost connectivity, I just noticed I couldn’t start a cleaning routine and the selection options were grayed out. This isn’t something I have had to worry about with older iterations of my Roombas so I don’t understand why this is an issue now. In short, hardware-wise the Roomba 405 is solid for everyday maintenance, but the app is deeply lacking. Also, cleaning a two story house with the mop and vacuum function is also annoying since the 405 can’t clean without needing to go back to the base which is on a different floor to obtain clean water from the base. A larger tank would have remedied this. I think the software can be remedied but it is definitely a gamble and I don’t like the uncertainty of being away from my home, trying to run the 405 only to have the robot disconnect yet again from my home network.

Amazing vacuum!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hello friends and welcome to my review of the new Roomba plus 405. This review is going to be fun ,because this vacuum is sooo good. First of all I have been a roomba fan for a very long time and I think I have been through about 7 of them so far. And I have tested other robots as well. But only one other brand has even come close to the quality and power of the roomba robots. This new 405 model steps up the cleaning power by a factor of two. Not only can it vacuum very well, but it can also mop at the same time. I don't mean like the old units with just a single pad that basically just vibrates as it goes across the floor. Those units did not work very well on any messes that were more than just a tiny spot. Or for large areas it just didn't have the scrubbing power to get stuff up off the floor. However roomba changed the game in a big way, by putting two counter rotating mop heads in the front of the robot. This uses the weight of the machine and the forward momentum to push those pads hard around the room. This picks up dirt far better than those other designs. Then as if that wasn't enough, roomba decided to have this jewel self clean the pads when it's dirty at the end of it's cycle. And don't forget it also empties the dusty bin as well. All while also making the docking base smaller than the previous models. I must say this is basically the ultimate robot vacuum at this point in time, it may be outdone next year, but for now it's the top dog. The other thing I wanted to quickly mention is the bags. It appears that roomba has redesigned the bags to make them more eco-friendly. The old bags had a plastic piece that could close the bag up after it is full. the new bags are made totally out of paper and cardboard. I'm guessing so it breaks down faster in the landfill. And there is less plastic waste in our landfills. Good stuff from our friends over at roomba. If you ask me if I would recommend this new roomba 405 I would say a loud YES! Not only is it a great machine with a track record of dependability, but it does a fantastic job of cleaning the floor. All automatically from carpet to hard wood to vinyl without you having to do anything except clean out the bins when it promps you to. Great stuff from a great company!

Roomba 405 - Perfect No-Stress Cleaning Solution

The mop/vaccuum combo is super easy to use — I just plugged it in, used the Roomba app to map out the floor, and it was ready to go. It picks up dust, dirt, and hair from the entire house in about 90 minutes. It moves smoothly between our hardwood floors, tile floors, and rugs. The app makes it easy to schedule cleaning routines throughout the week so you can set it and forget it. Maintenance seems simple too, with easy-to-empty bins and removable pads that are machine-washable. If you want a no-stress solution for maintaining clean floors, I would highly recommend this product.

Who needs a cleaning lady??
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've always been a huge Roomba fan. I'm a lifelong cat owner who hates to see cat hair everywhere. I bought one 10 years ago (still going strong) and gift newer models to my family. When I heard about the new 405 model with mopping and cleaning capabilities, I was excited to upgrade. Well, it went on sale and I snapped it up. The minute it arrived, I wasted no time—unboxed, charged, and put it straight to work. And wow, I’m seriously impressed. This little machine might just replace my cleaning lady! It’s thorough, efficient, and even takes care of mopping too—leaving my floors spotless. If you're on the fence, I definitely recommend making the switch. This Roomba is a game changer and totally worth the buy!

Great combo cleaner!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been using the Roomba Plus 405 Combo for a few weeks now, and it’s made a big difference in how clean my home feels. It vacuums and mops, and the AutoWash dock is super helpful—it empties the dust and even washes the mop pads, so I don’t have to think about it much. The robot moves smoothly across different floors and lifts the mop pads when it goes over carpet, which is a smart touch. The cleaning is solid. It picks up pet hair, crumbs, and dust without much trouble. I like that I can control it with my phone or even ask Alexa to start it. The app lets me set cleaning schedules and choose which rooms to clean, which is great when I’m busy. Now, a couple of things could be better. The app can be a little confusing at first, especially when setting up the map. It took me a few tries to get it right. Also, the robot sometimes goes back to the dock more often than I expected, which slows down the cleaning a bit. And while the mopping works well for light messes, it doesn’t scrub hard enough for tougher stains. Still, I think this is a great product. It saves me time and effort, and my floors look cleaner every day. If you’re looking for a robot that can vacuum and mop with minimal work on your part, I’d definitely recommend the Roomba Plus 405 Combo.

Keepin It Clean With Roomba
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Okay this thing is amazing, don't really know how we ever got along with these devices years ago. Shipping was quick, unboxing and set easy, operation and the app a little tricky at first but then once you get the swing of it it's fine. It is fantastic how such a small unit can pickup and store the debris from your floors, and the auto emptying on both the vac and mop are life extending greats, however, the mop feature, although nice to have, malfunctioned just one time and turned on while it was on our rug, causing a serious screw up but alas no permanent damage done once it all dried out. And as for the vac itself, it doesn't seem to want to properly transition from hard tile floor to rug and then back to hard tile floor like previous models like those without the mop feature seemingly did much better. And it gets stuck a moment of the fringe on the edges of our rugs. And interestingly enough although it seems to be able to learn most things well enough quick enough, it is having a real difficult time recognizing a all Copper pottery plant bowl we have on the living room floor. All in all though this is a steal of a deal with the work it saves you while keeping your place clean and the little ticks here and there are easily over looked. We would definitely recommend this to our friends and family.
