I Wanted to Love It.

I was really looking forward to the Roomba 705 Combo because of the LiDAR and rolling mop with heated water - I ended up wildly disappointed with this iRobot. For starters, this robot vacuum is riddled with software issues in the app as well as the machine itself. The only positive trait of the Roomba 705 is the new roller mop and possibly the LiDAR - but even the LiDAR has its shortcomings.
PROs
1) Roller Mop - The roller mop is the #1 feature for this 705 Combo vacuum. I've had several robot vacuums in the past that just had mops that vibrated and dragged around a dirty mop. The roller style mop on this iRobot is a brilliant design that makes me wish they put the same effort in designing the rest of the vacuum. Not only does the roller extend out the side of the machine to get close to the walls and corners, but its also heated and cleans itself as it goes. This constant cleaning of the roller combined with the hot water and rotating brush will actually clean your floor.
2) No Wet Carpet - Wet carpet was one of my major concerns when I initially picked out the 705 Combo. After seeing the marketing materials, I knew the mop roller did not automatically lift or detach at the base like other models I've seen - so, how was this going to prevent my rugs from soaking up the moisture from the roller? As it turns out, the engineering team at iRobot must have brewed an extra strong pot of coffee before their design meeting because they managed to whip up one of the coolest solutions. There's actually a mechanical cover that closes over the roller when it's on carpet - which makes it impossible to transfer any moisture. So cool.
CONs
1) App - The app feels like a half-baked product you'd expect to see from a start-up.
I'll list a few issues:
a) Robot failed to connect to wifi
b) App fails to recognize the robot periodically
c) App deletes maps without warning
d) App fails to show the robot when on a mission
e) App throws an error and only way to resolve is to delete and re-map
f) App freezes and sometimes modes can not be selected
g) App fails to save a routine
h) App lacks meaningful trouble-shooting with errors.
More often than not, you will have to delete the map and start over but the list goes on and on and on. The issues with firmware are unacceptable considering the company has been around as log as it has.
2) Very Confused Robot - I had hoped that the robot's ability to map and find its position would be improved with the LiDAR - I was wrong. It may be better than other models that rely on a vision based system but the 705 struggles to find its way most of the time. Its sluggish method of positioning is most noticeable when it starts a mission. If you want it to clean a specific room, it can take around 2 minutes to figure out the room positioning and that's before it even starts cleaning. I've had situations where it needed to clean the kitchen and the Roomba had to drive to the living room to find its position before eventually returning to the room I asked it to clean.
3) Endless Empty Cycles - This might be one of the most annoying flaws with the firmware. I'm not sure what triggers it, but the Roomba will spiral into an endless loop of cleaning for a few minutes followed by docking and emptying the bin. It will never complete the task but it will keep going back to the dock and using the incredibly loud AutoWash Dock to empty the unit. I eventually have to go into the app and manually end the mission.
4) App Features - I can't tell if iRobot is trying to make the app easy to use by having a fraction of the app features I've seen in competitor products or if they don't want to put in the time. I'll list some of the features that I would consider standard but iRobot decided against.
a) Emptying scheduling for dock. Example: I scheduled a routine for 9:30PM but I don't want the dock to empty the vacuum after 7:00PM because of the excessive noise
b) Ability to adjust mopping or vacuuming intensity after a mission has started
c) Re-mapping for specific rooms
d) Spot cleaning. Example: I only want the vacuum to clean a mess in small area of a room. I don't want to clean an entire room just to clean a small spot
CONCLUSION
Based on my experience, you will pull your hair out if you invest in the 705 Combo Vacuum. I've never owned a product intended to improve my quality of life only to see it achieve the complete opposite. My time invested in troubleshooting alone could have been time spent cleaning the floors myself.

I bought the Roomba 705 Combo and I’m honestly impressed. The mopping roller is amazing — it leaves my floors looking clean, shiny, and way better than I expected from a robot vacuum. It’s also surprisingly quiet, which I really appreciate, and it does a great job scrubbing into all the little crevices around my home.
At first, I thought something was wrong because it wouldn’t go into the bathroom. Turns out it just saves the bathroom for last, which actually makes a lot of sense and keeps the cleaning cycle organized. Once I realized that, everything worked perfectly.
Overall, I absolutely love this robot and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a vacuum/mop combo that actually delivers on what it promises.

First let me just say I’ve owned a few Roombas and this one was so worth the upgrade that I only wish I had done it sooner! Setup was a breeze on the app and this Roomba zipped around the house mapping it out in like 10 minutes! Having multiple dogs who shed a TON owning a Roomba was the best investment made. I watched it pick up all the dog hair off the ground. It do a fantastic job at mopping as I could see it literally remove the paw prints right in front of me. Best parts about this model is that it avoided bumping into dog toys, it has this protective cover that comes out when on carpet (mind blown moment for me), and it goes back home and cleans itself! This Roomba easily replaces the multiple ones I had before and only wish I wouldn’t have hesitated as long as I did before upgrading. It has been a treat to wake up to clean floors each morning and not feeling like I need to mop multiple times a week now.

This Roomba® Max 705 Combo is a significant upgrade from the past iRobot J 7+. A few things to consider; The robot is significantly larger and heavier, driven by the vacuum + mop modes as well as the autowash deck. The LIDAR is a huge improvement with mapping of the house which was completed in 30 minutes vice the 2 hours required for mapping without LIDAR. My only concern with the new system is the non-availability of the StayClean™ Mopping Concentrate. The robot comes with a very small supply, but the iRobot site says that the supply is not available as of 15 Jan. This impacts the homeowner with hardwood floors in that other cleaning solutions are not recommended due to unique mopping system of the robot. Hopefully that issue will be corrected soon.

The iRobot vacuum does a decent job for everyday cleaning, especially on hard floors and low-pile rugs. It navigates fairly well on its own, and the scheduling feature is convenient if you want hands-off cleaning. The dustbin is easy to empty, and the app setup is straightforward.
On the downside, it can be a bit loud, and sometimes it misses spots or gets confused around furniture. Battery life is acceptable but not exceptional, and the unit occasionally needs help if it gets stuck on cords or transitions.
Overall, it’s a solid option if you want a simple automated cleaner, but it’s not perfect and still benefits from occasional manual touch-ups.

Purchased this unit to replace an older roomba vacuum and roomba mop unit.
This newer model does a better job of both vacuuming and especially mopping than our older units. We love the large water storage tank on the base unit and the fact that it cleans the mop when it returns home.
The newer combo unit has much better room and furniture detection than the older units.
After seeing this combo unit perform, we both agree that it's worth the price.

Vacuuming it was awesome! But as far as the mopping… well it did an ok job. My S9 does an amazing job and it is 4-5 years old so far it has been a great experience. I wanted to see how this compares to it especially with the mop feature. I will continue to use my S9 till it dies

This product is such a time saver! Vacuums, mops empties, and cleans itself. The roller is so efficient, extending out to clean the edges, while continuously cleaning itself, and has a retractable cover for when on carpets. LiDAR exceeds expectations mapping and maneuvering around my house with ease. Very happy with my purchase!

A Beautiful, Hard-Working Robot!

This robot — and its sleek base — are absolutely stunning. It’s larger than my previous J7+, but the upgrade is completely worth it because this one vacuums and mops! Setup was a breeze thanks to the clear quick-start guide. The robot connected to Wi-Fi instantly, and the app walked me through the rest with zero confusion.
Room mapping was surprisingly fun to watch. It took a couple of passes to get everything perfect, but once it did, customizing my home layout was incredibly easy. I quickly set up exclusion zones, renamed rooms, added high-traffic areas for deeper cleaning, and even created automatic cleaning schedules.
I’m impressed by how intelligently it adjusts suction depending on the floor type — whether it’s an area rug, carpet, or tile, it just knows what to do. I loved my old robot, but having a machine that both vacuums and mops has been a total game-changer. It’s a huge time saver and keeps my home looking great with almost no effort from me.
Highly recommended!

This robot vacuum/mop combo works amazingly well for keeping my hardwood floors and rugs clean. I’ve had several Roombas, and this one is by far the best as far as mapping and cleaning capabilities. Keeps the dog fur tumbleweeds from over taking my house!

It works well! I have 3 labs and it’s “a lot” for this device to maintain so it requires constant maintenance (manually cleaning the brushes etc). This isn’t the end all to your cleaning an vacuuming needs but it’s great to give a quick brush down.

I’ve used robot vacuums before, but the iRobot Roomba Max 705 Combo with the AutoWash Dock feels like a genuine leap forward rather than an incremental upgrade. Setup was surprisingly smooth for a device this advanced. The Roomba Home app walked me through everything step by step, connecting to Wi-Fi, mapping my home, and configuring vacuum and mop preferences. Within the first run, it created a detailed 3D map of my space and automatically labeled rooms accurately, which immediately made it feel smarter and more intentional than past robot cleaners I’ve owned.
In daily use, the cleaning performance is impressive across both hard floors and carpet. The suction power is no joke; it noticeably pulls up embedded debris and pet hair from rugs, especially with Carpet Boost kicking in automatically. On hard floors, the heated mopping combined with the spinning PowerSpin roller mop leaves floors genuinely clean rather than just “wiped.” I tested it on dried spills and high-traffic areas, and enabling SmartScrub made a visible difference with fewer streaks and a more polished finish. The retractable mop cover is a standout feature. Transitioning from tile to carpet happens seamlessly without worrying about wet messes or manual intervention.
Navigation is another area where this Roomba excels. PrecisionVision AI has already saved me multiple times by avoiding cords, shoes, and random clutter I forgot to pick up. It feels confident moving around furniture, edges, and corners, and the extending mop does a great job reaching areas most robot mops usually miss. I also appreciate how the robot adapts mid-clean, vacuuming first, mopping where needed, and even repeating passes in dirtier areas without me having to micromanage anything.
The AutoWash Dock is what truly makes this system feel premium and hands-off. Not having to empty the bin for up to 75 days or manually clean and dry the mop roller is a huge quality-of-life upgrade. The dock washes the roller with heated water, dries it to prevent odors, and refills solution automatically, so the robot is always ready to go. After a few weeks of use, maintenance has been minimal, and my floors stay consistently clean without constant attention.
It’s expensive, but for busy households or anyone who wants near fully automated floor care, it genuinely delivers on that promise. Despite that, if you want a mostly hands-off, high-performance vacuum and mop combo, the Roomba Max 705 delivers one of the best experiences currently available.

Easy to set up. Works great. A small (real small) amount of cleaning solution is provided and at the moment it does not appear any is available. You need to access the manual via the app to get detailed setup instructions.

I had high expectations for this product after having a previous model of the same brand for 5 years prior. The new app is not as user friendly as I expected, the mop is constantly in error mode and must be emptied during every refill because it says it’s full (it’s not) & it leaks dirty water everywhere around the base and the robot itself. The vacuum function leaves debris on the floor-I would not recommend buying this

Enjoying this combo vac & mop! We have a large 2800 square foot house and one standard clean (there are a few to choose from) will drain the battery and it will need to recharge. You can also set the vac to AutoEmpty at different frequencies. Lots of settings on the app! Definitely worth the purchase for us.

Hands down, the best robot vacuum I've ever used!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
This is my first Roomba, but my fourth robot vacuum, and unquestionable the absolute best all around.
The build quality is solid and certainly feels premium. No flimsy or loose attachments, hinges, or flex points. The materials are well above par and have a nice feel and appearance. This extends to the packaging. My Roomba arrived in possibly the most secure packaging I've seen. It's as if they know how some of the shipping providers are a little less than careful with packages.
Setup is rather straightforward, especially if you have previously used this type of vacuum. Everything revolves around the app - which is fantastic by the way. Once you decide on placement, there is some minor assemble but nothing that should challenge most users. I charged my Roomba overnight prior to the initial setup, which is probably a little over kill.
Connecting my device to Wi-Fi was quick, and that connections has remained solid, without interruption. As with just about every product on the market there was a firmware update which went quickly as well. The first run, which maps out the cleaning area does take longer than subsequent runs, as the device is learning the layout. This vacuum located almost 100% of my floor, missing only the area behind one of my couches, which is near a wall but does have space for the vacuum to fit. I'll take that degree of accuracy.
Cleaning is fantastic. The vacuum finds and collects so much more dust and debris than my previous devices. It seems to grab more from the corners and edges, along with having a stronger suction. I have all laminate hardwood floors for reference. The mopping is a welcome feature. One of my previous robot vacuums also had this feature and it was a bit underwhelming, so I was hopeful but cautious with this Roomba. I can say I was pleasantly surprised at the mopping capabilities. Heated, quick drying, and complete coverage. I would not go so far as to say you'll ever need to clean your floors again, but this easily works for that daily or weekly maintenance. It also does a great job of not running itself over a freshly mopped area.
The cleaning and waste collection is top notch. I appreciate the auto-refill of the mop cleaner. The heated self-cleaning and drying of the mop roller is fantastic, and a welcome addition.
The app is easily the best I have used. The LiDAR sensor creates a clear view of the cleaning area. The interface is clean and easy to use. You can view the remaining lifespan of replaceable parts, label rooms, set cleaning types per room, start / stop cleaning, perform a spot clean, and even setup automations.
Overall, this is a great device. I have absolutely no complaints. About the only "negative", which is subjective, is the size of the dock. I have enough space that this is not an issue, but for some this could be harder to "hide" out of the way. But if you want an absolutely solid robot vacuum / mop combo - this is it.

Do not buy this is the worst robotic vacuum behind the other Irobot products there are I have had this unit for roughly a week now and the unit will not dock properly and will constantly spill water everywhere soaking into the baseboards and into the floor. Good thing I caught it before it was too late and messed something up. The vacuuming performance is terrible. The dustbin is small. The mopping system is not the best either. It’s barely picking up any water. I contacted Irobot. They said that it will not be picking up a lot of water in their are currently trying to investigate why the unit is dumping the clean water tank of water everywhere. No help in sight. Do not buy stay away.

This is the 3rd Roomba I've purchased and is far and away the best. Looks like a very high end product and the set up process through the app is very intuitive. Does everything its supposed to with no issues so far...Highly recommend to anyone in the market for a robot vac.
