Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the Roomba s9+’s cleaning performance, mapping features, suction power, ease of use, self-emptying capabilities, and pet hair removal. However, some users note that the robot can be noisy and that its navigation system and battery life could be improved. Concerns were also raised regarding the robot's reliability and the relatively high price point. Overall, the positive feedback on cleaning and convenience is prominent, but potential buyers should consider the reported drawbacks.

    Amazing iRobot Vacuum That Self-Empties!

This was a game-changer for us. We upgraded from the Roomba 980 after several years of usage. We were happy to have it faithfully vacuum on it's own every day, as our 15 year-old beagle sheds constantly! But with the Roomba 980 vacuuming daily, it also required daily emptying of the bin. Now that we have upgraded to the s9+, this one empties via automatically into the base! Since we set up the s9+, we have only emptied the bag in the base once, so just 1 month after setting it up. Amazing! The only thing about this version is the Smart Mapping technology. It will take it some time to "learn" the layout of your home and it will require you to set up virtual "do not enter" zones in the app rather than using the battery-powered virtual fences. It takes some time to figure out as the smart map may not be accurate for a few runs.

We let it run early morning in the first floor of the house. by the time we wake up everything is clean and ready for the day. Smart in the sense that you just set up schedules and it does the job. No need to empty the dust container. Love it

I've had 2 Roomba i7+ for a good 2 years. Love them both. I decided to upgrade my upstairs Roomba to the the s9+ and I'm blown away at how quiet and efficient it is. It cleans the carpet way better than the i7+.

I dislike this robot vacuum compared to my last.it get stuck every single clean on the the smallest things. If you have kids or dogs, do not get this because it will find something they left around to cause it to not finish it’s job. It’s also about 5 times louder then my last robot vacuum which is very annoying. I would 100% go back ti my old robot vacuum if I was able to find replacement parts for it.

Pricey but definitely worth it for maintenance cleaning if you have pets. Easy to set up schedules. Has some difficulty transitioning from hard floor to high pile rugs, but able to get through eventually. Love the automatic disposal function into the bin.

This thing is awesome! Still haven’t even filled one bag yet on this and it cleans our entire house 3 days a week. We live in a 3500sqft home. It picks everything up, and is just a great time saver.

Works great and saves us time. Will you still have to vacuum occasionally, yes. We have two small dogs and a baby, it has a tough time on thick carpet or rugs that roll up easy it ultimately does a pretty good job.

I really like the fact it can clean while I’m at work. The only negative thing is it sometimes finds a cord to suck in and without being home the whole job is lost. It learns a layout fast but it left off about 10% of our home and I really do not want to reset the learning cycle over it. Overall really handy!

    Heartbroken Roomba Stan

I've had my eye on the s9+ for a whole year now, and last week, I decided that I was gonna just go for it and buy it. A 900 dollar vacuum, I thought, is something like an investment; surely you're paying a premium for the quality and longevity of the robot's life span. Last summer, I bought a ECOVAC robot on sale-on sale from BB and was super disappointed with it, so I decided I'd save up for the creme de la creme. I breezed through the Atwater Village curbside pickup (a dream, by the way) and off I went, roomba in tow. I arrived home, ecstatic, and frantically unwrapped my vacuum and put it in the charger. Having already had a robot vacuum, I knew that it was important to do mapping runs before you start cleaning with the robot so that it can figure out its environment without vacuuming at the same time. One hour later, my device was charged. I set it on it's first mapping run. Immediately, I hear a high pitched squeak--like metal on metal, hypersonic dog whistle annoyingness--but I figured, well, when the suction is on, I won't be able to hear it. I was wrong. That was issue #1. Issue #2 began shortly after when the s9+ got repeatedly stuck on my 1 inch shag carpet. Funnily enough, I've previously owned an i7 with the same carpet and it had no problem with it. 10 to 15 failed mapping runs later, I gave up and decided to start cleaning; I figured the smart software would figure everything out eventually. Boy was I wrong; not only did the high-pitched squeak get even worse, but so too did the robot's ability to move around any part of my floor that wasn't solid tile. I've wanted a Roomba s9+ forever and I just have to say: I'm very disappointed in what I got. More than anything, I'm just sad!

I have yet to perform one cleaning that something hasn't gotten stuck in the rollers! Before you use, you must make sure EVERY tiny little thing bigger than a small lego is clear from the floor. It's always telling me to "close the lid" when it's clearly closed. It also has trouble emptying the shuttle bin into the big bin. Once you schedule a cleaning, and if you leave and it gets hung up, it'll still use battery power - so if you're gone long, it'll eventually end up cancelling the job, so you have to start completely over. It also doesn't do a very good job on the edges. It has a lot of trouble going over one of my room transitions as well, roughly .5 high. In my opinion, not worth what I paid!

MILES above the i7+! The vacuum has significantly better suction and cleaning power and is far more graceful than the i7 ever was! I've been a huge user of Roomba vacuums for years and this is 100% their best one yet!

We had a different robot vacuum before this one that broke. I did not want to spend this much money on a vacuum but this one is well worth it. I (my wife) is very happy with its results.

We bought one of these before, but had to return it because it stopped emptying its onboard bin. No amount of resets, troubleshooting, or clearing the sensors could make it work correctly, so we returned it. I didn't go through the process of contacting customer support to have them tell me to do all the stuff I'd already done. Besides, it was an expensive vacuum cleaner... It should work, and I wasn't getting paid to fix it. Best Buy was fantastic (as always) with handling the return. We owned that one just less than a month. Later, this unit was offered with the Brava Jet M6 for just a little bit more than we paid for the first s9+, so we tried again. Everything started off well. It mapped the house out correctly, cleaned the floor well (we have polished concrete floors), and was able to do it all on its own, save for a few trouble spots that we were able to fix by adding keep-out zones and trying not to leave cords and shoelaces accessible. My only complaint at that time was its ability to clean our living room rug. It's not anything special, but it is somewhat of a challenge to keep hair off of because of how it's made (it's kind of bristly). We have two dogs and two cats, so there's always animal hair on that rug. This robot has a hard time picking up hair off of it, but our Eureka commercial grade upright can get it all in two passes. So what's the real issue? The app. The original app was REALLY simple, easy to use, and worked every time. Then they "upgraded" it. Now it's less intuitive and doesn't work properly (one time it even moved one of our keep-out zones). How many times should you have to tell the robot to clean the floor? Once, right? Well, most of the time when I give the robot a command through the app it acts like it's going to do what I asked (lights up or plays a little tune), then it just reverts back to sitting on its charging station. Many times I go to the app to start a job and the app says it's uploading map data. From when? Two days ago? If I can get the robot to start he does a pretty good job of cleaning the house, but after the third try, I usually just give up. Resetting the robot, reinstalling the app, and whatever else we've tried, have had no effect. We've got two different devices (iOS and android) connected to it and we've tried multiple connection combinations. (The Brava M6 mop doesn't seem to have the same issues, but it's hard to know because we don't use it much.) The first s9+ we bought, we spent a lot of time troubleshooting it before returning it. This one worked well until the app changed. We've had this second one for 6 months at the time I'm writing this. Does it clean the floor well? Yeah, it does a good job. Is it worth the money? I think it might be if it worked correctly. Right now, I feel like a beta tester. At this price point, the more I have to mess with it to get it to do what it was designed to do, the more frustrated and disappointed with it I become.

My house is large. This vacuum works great if you don’t have special flooring. I have a woven jute rug that I have to fold upwards to keep the vacuum from ruining. It’s kind of a hassle. I only have one rig so I cannot attest to how it moves from wood flooring or tile to rugs.

If this review were solely based on the iRobot, it would be 5 stars, but after 2 weeks our robot stopped connecting to wifi and it's been a struggle to get customer support to move faster than a snail's pace. The robot was easy to set up and after some initial challenges with mapping (mostly because it had trouble with our bar stools) things were going great. The vacuum is not loud and is effective, and kind of fun. However, it stopped connecting last week and after following all the steps in the app (robot and app reboot, factory reset) we couldn't resolve the problem on our own. After 2 calls and several emails to customer help, we are still waiting on a resolution. Considering how much we spent, I expected a bit more from iRobot customer service.
