Our kitchen bar area is less than 10 feet from our living area, and so we wanted the quietest dishwasher we could get. We actually purchased an entire kitchen suite of KitchenAid to compliment this dishwasher, and we are extremely happy we did. This washer is EXTREMELY quiet. Without the indicator LED lights, it would be really hard to tell if it's running or not. It also cleans dishes really, really well--much better than our last dishwasher, which was a Bosch. This dishwasher has a small slide-in shelf above the two larger ones, and it is really nice for spatulas, food processor discs and other flat, hard to place items. (Here's a suggestion. Weiman Stainless Steel Wipes make cleaning the stainless a piece of cake.)

First let me say this dishwasher is so quiet I have to look at the status light on front to tell if it is running. I looked at many dishwashers at quite a few stores before I made this purchase. The Kitchenaid seemed to have the highest reviews and this model seemed to have the most features. It has 3 trays with the top excellent for large utensils or pot lids. The middle tray is adjustable up and down. The dishes are always super clean. After we settled on this model, we started shopping around for the best price and found Best Buy beat the next cheaper retailer by $100. The choice of Best Buy was a no brainer!

We love our dish washer. The dish washer is incredibly quiet, in fact, if it didn't have an light, when it is running, you wouldn't know it was on. It cleans well, is spacious and the runs super quiet. We are really happy with our purchase.

I was impressed with how this unit is built. The Kenmore unit we replaced had plastic housing but this unit had metal-stainless steel looking housing. It is extremely quiet! I have not washed a big load of dishes yet so I cannot comment on how it cleans but I love the look and features.

The interior of the washing machine takes some getting used to after having a different model for the past 10 years. It cleans great, runs very quiet (can't hear it really) and the dishes come out dry when using the "heat dry" feature. Have only had the unit for 3 weeks, but so far love it.

So Quiet. Does Not Dry

We purchased this dishwasher because of the high ratings. Only had 9 days but have used about 6 times.
1. Very quiet!
2. Cleans well
3. Love the 3rd rack
4. DOES NOT DRY WELL!!!! Thinking about returning this. Not as much work to hand dry if you do it right after the cycle ends due to the heat. If you leave dishes in thinking they will dry, they won't.
5. Very nice design. Bought the slide in range (LOVE IT) to go with and was going to get the fridge (great design!) to match but need to see if the drying issue can be resolved. I called Kitchenaid and they said something about it taking a cpl of months and then the problem will go away. Not sure I want to take that chance.
6. Best Buy customer service has been excellent but it would be more helpful if they had more info regarding some of the common issues.

It doesn't always release the soap at the correct time, resulting in a glob of detergent at the bottom of the unit. Which means, the dishes were only washed with water, no soap.

I spent a significant amount of time researching dishwasher models to replace the 6 year old Samsung that was in our house when we purchased it but was working very poorly.
I decided on the KitchenAid kdte254ess based on the reviews and trade-off of cost versus performance/features.
It has been 3 weeks since install and I have been very pleased with the dishwasher. It is extremely quiet, does an excellent job cleaning the dishes and I have been surprised at how well it dries the dishes given a few of the reviews that indicated drying problems.
We did remove the 3rd rack from our dishwasher since we have tall plates on the lower rack and tall glasses on the 2nd rack that prevent use of the 3rd rack but I expected that would be the case when we purchased it. If we ever replace our large plates with something smaller I can reconfigure the racks and use the 3rd.
The one surprise is that depending on the options I select for a cycle, it can take up to 4 hours to finish. While I don't find that a problem for our household it does seem excessive.
I can't comment on long term performance since it has only been 3 weeks, but I am very pleased with this purchase so far.

It's been 1 month. Previous Samsung started chirping at 5 years and not running full cycle any longer. Also was not as quite as this.
This Kitchenaid is so quiet you can't hear it standing in front of it.
Actual Handle is a nice feature rather then a cutout to reach under and grab.
The racks slide very smoothly. I did not like the noisy, rough sliding action of the racks sliding in and out on the Samsung.
So far it seems to clean really well. Only 1 instance of some food on a plate after probably 25 washes. Dryer works well, Top flat rack is a nice feature that we do use. Flexible width adjustment on the bottom rack for deep dishes. nice knife basket.
I installed it with my Son-in-law and it took 1 1/2 hours including removing the existing D/W.
Be aware you need to get a 90 degree hose adapter that is not used on most other dishwashers.
It was a $6.00 item but I had to stop and go to the hardware store for it. The instructions do point it out, but it is not laid out in the page of the manual so as to be clear. Silly they don't include it.

I love the 3rd rack in this dishwasher and will never go back to two racks again. I put everything from serving utensils to cutting boards to large knives. The come out spotless every time!
This dishwasher is so quiet, I have had phone conversations right next to it in mid-cycle and never even noticed it was on.
Lastly, my dishes are spotless. Dirty pots and pans have never been this clean.

1st unit installed smelled funny like oil when it ran the Prowash & was moist around the lower left corner. Many of the cycles ran for much longer than they were suppose to. One time it ran for nearly 6 hours! The buttons didn't work correctly all the time either.
BB was Awesome! They exchanged it for a new one when I called on the 14th day. It took about a week to get the new one however.
The 2nd Unit doesn't seem to have the same problems. It cleans the dishes great! I rinse way less than I did with previous dishwashers. Many big spoons don't fit in the 3rd rack b/c it doesn't adjust. Therefore we don't use it much. Space in the upper, big rack is smaller than the washers I'm used to. I would skip the 3rd rack if I had to do it again.
SS is difficult to keep clean! Every time we put dishes in our hands are wet, usually dirty too. That just runs down the front and makes it look messy. If you can skip the SS I think it would be better too.
Overall it cleans great and I do like it better than our previous dishwasher which was 13 years old.

We love this dishwasher. It is almost impossible to know it's washing. It does take a little longer to wash than our old one, but does an excellent job. We're still working to figure it out. There is a fair amount of water left over on the door, etc. , but we'll figure out how to adjust the setting. The usability is great. The design and appearance are stunning. Very impressive product. It is what we'd expect from the KitchenAid name. Not disappointed at all!

Great dish washer. Easy to use. Slick top wire shelf for utensils that do not fit in the typical stand-up basket . Very, very quite, I have to check if it is through running. But it is slow; a full cycle can take over 2 hours! But it holds a lot of dishes so this is not a problem for me-a single guy. I barely run it once a week. Very clean appearance.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this dishwasher. We've had it now for a few months and so far I'm quite happy. The overall look of the dishwasher is really nice. I was worried at first that we might get caught on the handle because it sticks out more than most dishwashers, but even though we have an island right across from the unit, no one has had that problem. The layout of the dishwasher is very nice as well. Lots of room and I love the 3rd rack. The top rack also holds quite a bit and has a great little basket for small items which are perfect for my kid's drink straws. When the dishwasher is running you can barely tell, it's so quiet. Honestly it's a good thing the light changes color when it's done or I would probably open it mid-cycle not knowing it wasn't done. There are a few cons, but nothing major, The biggest being that a full cycle runs about 3 hours, which is really long compared to my last dishwasher. The dishes do come out nice and clean though. Also the heated dry doesn't work quite as well as my old dishwasher, but I just open the door and let them finish air drying if needed. Overall this is a great dishwasher and I am so happy with our choice to buy it.

We are very happy with the performance of this dishwasher. It is so quiet that you hardly know it is running. I selected this model because it has a third rack, only problem is that with the third rack in place, the wine glasses don't fit. Fortunately it is easily removable.

I purchased this dishwasher almost a year ago when our dishwasher died on Thanksgiving. I went out shopping, really wanting a Bosch, since we had owned one before. Our first stop was one of the big home improvement stores and the salesman warned us that while both brands were pretty comparable, the KitchenAid would not dry the dishes as well as a Bosch. But before we purchased anything, we ran over to Best Buy to compare prices. We typically buy all our appliances there anyway and it was the day after Thanksgiving so there was a sale. The BB salesman spoke so highly of the KitchenAid over the Bosch, buying American over European, better repair time etc. that during the pitch, we completely forgot about the dry dishes problem. So kudos to him! I would say it performs well as far as washing the dishes. It is the most quiet dishwasher we have ever owned, which is important when your kitchen opens to the family room. I have had people stand right in front of it while it is running and not know that it was washing dishes. But it simply does not DRY the dishes, even with it's heated dry cycle. Every time I empty the dishwasher, I have to hand dry EVERYTHING, including the silverware. If I wanted to have to hand dry everything, I would just wash them all myself. I expect a dishwasher to sanitize my dishes and deliver clean, dry dishes to put in my cabinet. But when I have to use a dish towel to hand dry everything, they are no longer sanitized as far as I am concerned. Plastic dishware is the worst offender but if you have kids, you have plastic. I appreciate that they are trying to be more energy efficient, use less water, and make less noise, but I HATE having to dry the dishes every time I use it. I have let the dishes sit in there after a cycle for more than a day before emptying it and they are STILL wet. If I could still return it, I think I would. I only wish I had not waited so long to get fully disgusted. So if you want a super quiet dishwasher that really cleans well but does a terrible job at drying, then this is your machine. Just stock up on dishtowels.

We've had a Samsung dishwasher for about 4 years now... well really about 2 because the first one died and was replaced under warranty. The second one rarely could complete a cycle and we've hated it. Now this wonderful Kitchenaid... we never realized how bad the prior dishwasher was until we had this one to compare! Quiet? It is darn near impossible to tell if it is running (there is a light on the front to indicate cycle on), the third rack for spatulas and such is fantastic and boy, does this thing clean! If there is anything you could possible complain about, the cycle times are rather long... but as quiet as it is, just start it before heading to bed and you're set... wake up to clean dishes. This is hands down the best dishwasher I have used, couldn't recommend it more highly.

We owned our last dishwasher for over 10 years. It had a quick cycle but was incredibly loud. I looked on the "leading consumer reporting magazine" for recommendations. This model was not the best, but it was the quietest dishwasher that still cleaned in an outstanding fashion. And boy does it delivery! We literally have no idea it's running unless we see the small LED (blue-wash, red-dry, white-clean). Well worth the money! We don't use the very top rack much, but when we do it's very nice to have. Cons are few but here they are: no digital display (LED only) so you don't know how much time the cycle has remaining; and the entire wash takes a long time. This are pretty minor if silence is your goal. Great product!
