It works well as a burner when it is connected to the PC by an USB. I love the fact it only needs 1 cable - it works perfectly on my iMac where I use it once in a while. However, if you are looking for very fast recording times or burn discs on a daily basis, look for another model. Reading times are good. It does what I was looking for and it it very small, which helps when using with other computers.

I purchased this for my tablet that I bought from Best Buy last year. I needed to download some new software and this dvd writer is awesome! My son bought one first and recommended it.....

Manufactured ready to use. It does have to sit separate to your laptop or pc but if it saves the internal structure of your laptop it is worth it.

When the DVD drive on my laptop quit working I wanted a small, lightweight, inexpensive replacement. The LG drive works is exactly what I was looking for. The installation was easy and it was immediately recognized by my five year old laptop. It is plastic so doesn't seem sturdy and it is occasionally noisy but it plays the DVDs I like to watch and didn't cost a lot so I'm happy.

This is a great little device. Its quick, does NOT require external power, reads/writes DVDs, obviously CDs as well. It works equally as well on Mac OS as it does with Windows (maybe better - no drivers to install). The little guy can be a bit loud, but is that really such a big issue? It is cheap for what you are getting. Can easily slip into a briefcase, office desk drawer, etc.

This external drive comes in at the perfect size, weight, and power consumption for those with a slim laptop that didn't include an optical drive. The price point is great as well. It gets its power through USB, so no need to search around for an outlet. Due to its slim size, it can get loud while spinning discs, but that's the price you pay for the convenience of a small device.

I think I paid 21.99 for this on sale and it has been worth every penny. Most ultrabooks now come with DVD/CD drive (for good reason) so if you need one you have to go external. This one fits my bill perfectly. For just reading discs there is nothing to install, most OSs will discover it with no problems. I have ripped countless DVDs from my collection for re-encoding and storage on my home NAS cloud and it has worked flawlessly for this purpose. I have not burned anything with it because this medium is slowly going the way of the dinosaur (I NEVER thought I'd say that about CD/DVD/BluRay discs). It's faster than I expected through the USB port, pulling data from DVDs at almost 8x at peak and taking only about 15-20 minutes per disc to encode to MKV for storage. All in all a great purchase.

I bought this external disk drive because my new lap top/ tablet does not have an internal disk drive. This one works well. I have used it to load software onto the computer. It is as fast as any internal disk drive I have used. I am not sure how it would work for any games that require a disk while playing. It comes with a disk for setup, however my computer did not require it. I was just able to plug it into the USB port and go. The only down side of this drive is that it is very loud when running. The noise is kind og a high pitched whir. It is typical of disk drives, but much louder. Since I only use it to load software, I can live with it. The price makes it worth while.

This external drive is very slim and has performed very well. The price is very nice. Being portable makes this a good choice to plug in the USB and us with a TV, PC and or MAC anywhere (no power cord needed).

I purchased this DVD/CD drive the day I purchased my iMAC because it was recommended by the employee helping me. It was on sale and way cheaper than the apple brand, but works amazing and does what it claims. I recommend this to anyone who wants to save money! It is compatible and worth the purchase. I was initially hesitant, but the moment I used it, I was so glad I had no issues and saved a lot. lol Definitely recommend!

The drive is fast and vey light. It is easy to transport. It is a little loud with some disks.

I purchased this drive to use with a 2-in-1 that does not have an optical drive. It has performed well during the short time I have had it. I've used it to burn DVDs, upload data from discs and to play discs. The slim, lightweight design makes it a perfect fit as a peripheral to a laptop or tablet without a DVD drive. It's at an outstanding price too!

I used the LG DVD player to upload and install software on my new Surface Pro 3. It was easy to connect via USB and with easy plug and play I was able to upload all of the software from disks that I had on my previous computer. I was told that external DVD players frequently were not compatible with Surface but this worked great. And it is small so I can carry it around in the Surface sleeve and thus I have it whenever needed.

At the price they seel this item, it is certainly worth the investment. The item works perfectly with both PCs and Macs. The set up though had a few minor hiccups. Since it's power comes from the USB port, you need at least USB 2.0 or 3.0 to get enough power to run the item. Other than that, installation of software was easy and fast. The item itself works well.

I'm anticipating getting a new laptop in a few months that doesn't have an internal optical drive. I like the sleek and slim form factor and the modest price. I also wanted a tray-opening drive so I could use mini CD's. This was all that, but even better, it was plug and play right out of the box, there is no lag-time, and it works beautifully!

Carry in my laptop case for use as needed. Plugs into USB and powers up instantly. Works well as an accessory drive. Lightweight but well made. Gave first one I bought to my daughter for her Apple IMAC and I had to buy another for my Lenovo PC...easily adaptable to both. Inexpensive but does the trick.

You can use this to play music or video on any t.v. or device which has a usb port without the added hassle of having to also hook it up to an additional power source. Just plug it into a usb port and it is all set to go. It is smaller and even thinner than most CD cases. It also is self-recognized during in the boot process on my PCs which allows it to even run boot CDs. That can be very handy for travelers and net cafe users who like to use Live CD OSes for added security and privacy for their net access. It is so simple to use and fast to hook up to any device that it makes me want to find more items to use it with. I have not done any burning on it yet I think it mite be slow at that but it wouldn't subtract much from it's overall niftyness.
