OK-Where do I start!? If you are a Mad Max fan and you have not played this game-What is Wrong with You! Go get this game! Right NOW! I mean everything from the story atmosphere, the villians, the vehicles, the weapons, the landscape, the costumes/character design, even the music is: Mad Max! There are some reviews commenting on how repetitive some of the missions can be and I would agree but this is not something unusual for Avalanche games. I actually am personally fine with the repetitiveness and like seeing my progress on the map as I clear various objectives/areas! Definitely worth your time and money, this one!

This Game Is A Great Game, But Don't Get Me Wrong It Has A Few Issues, One Being That The Only Real Firearm You Have Is Your Shotgun, But There Are Many Vehicle Customization Options And A Big Open World, Another Downside Is That There Are Very Repetitive Objectives, But There Is Plenty To Do, Its A Great Game For $30-$45, Just Not Worth The Full $60 In My Opinion.

+Good story +Fun gameplay +Huge open world +Memorable and interesting characters -Repetitive, repetitive, repetitive This game would be perfect if it lasted half as long. Unfortunately, that's not the case. The objectives and activities are all fun, but Mad Max expects you to enjoy them each at least a dozen times with very little variation. Now that the bad is out of the way, just know that if the repetitiveness isn't a deal breaker, you've got another great open world game in your hands. The driving and on foot gameplay are both great, there are loads of customization options, and there is a strong tale of revenge to experience. Mad Max may not be game of the year, but you should definitely pick it up if you're at all interested.

IGN Rated this game an 8.4. I personally think it's about a 9.0. EXCELLENT Amazing graphics, decent story, fully customizable car for Max, called the magnum opus. Great open world to chose how you play the game. Great car chases, wi th lots of action, and the controls for fighting are smooth and user friendly. Cons: Repetative missions/objectives. Occasional graphic glitches. Personally I think it should have had a sound track, like wild rock music from the movie mad max, would have made it more cinematic and adrenaline rush like.

Disappointed that this game came out the same day as Metal Gear Solid 5. I bought both, but I haven't had the chance to play MGS yet because I became addicted to the Mad Max video game. I've always been a huge Mad Max fan. The movies are unique in that the protagonist isn't really the main character of the film. Mad Max is a protagonist that's just along for the ride. He's always helping others progress their own stories because he has the same instinct as the good cop he was before society fell. However, the movies don't really let us get inside his head and find out how the events in the first film have impacted him. The new film took a first step in this direction. The Mad Max video game lets the player get inside Max's mind in a small way through a character named Griffa, whose dialogue with Max I find the most interesting aspect of this game. There are also collectibles spread throughout the massive open world that shed some light on the lore behind the world of Mad Max. Apart from the very interesting lore and dialogue between Max and Griffa, this game is also very fun to play. The combat is incredible. Of course, it takes inspiration from games like the Arkham series and Shadow of Mordor, but I prefer the combat in Mad Max over either of its predecessors. Batman had a very free-flowing, fast-paced combat. Mad Max combat is slower. You're required to slowly and brutally beat down each enemy unless you decide to use a fatal shogun blast or a shiv to quickly down your enemies. The combat does get extremely violent. You wont see heads fly off like in Shadow of Mordor, but you'll find that stomping on faces, slitting throats, smashing faces into walls, breaking arms and legs and shotgun blasts into the gut are just as brutal. Car upgrading and combat is incredible. Haven't played a game quite like this when it comes to vehicular combat. There many ways to creatively take down enemies in vehicles, and all of them are very satisfying. I find that I don't get bored looking for new parts or ways to acquire parts in this game because I'm always looking to get my hands on the next upgrade for my car. Take the critic reviews with a grain of salt and give this game a try. I'm sure many of them didn't put as much time and love into this game as I did due to the fact that Metal Gear Solid 5 is out as well. I've put over 48 hours into this game without MGG5 as a distraction and I have to say that this game is definitely my type of game.

This game feels like a mix Metal Gear Solid V, Shadow of Mordor, Batman, and GTA. It has a huge open world. The world map is massive and is filled with tons of stuff to do and the forts/bases are each uniquely different in their layout. The game has some of the best graphics yet for PS4 & is pretty steady at 30fps. This game runs extremely well and looks fantastic. One minute I was driving through a sunny desert wasteland and the next I was caught in a storm and got struck by lightning. The controls are easy to pick up. There's nothing more fun than harpooning something like a sniper tower and pulling it over. The driving and fighting are both lots of fun. I like it how the companion guy will automatically repair the car when it becomes damaged. Also, it was an interesting choice to have the entrance to his hideout on the side of a ship. The combat is similar to a Arkham Batman game but is more visceral and you can feel the punches hit hard when you do a heavy hit. The car combat is like Twisted Metal without missiles. I highly recommend this game.

Great game so far after playing for the first couple of hours. The game has robust customization, everything from Max including his gear, esthetics, stats and outfits to his car from bumper to bumper is customizable. This creates many possibilities for making the ultimate road warrior and ba death mobile :). Graphics look beautiful especially the explosions and sandstorms that randomly pop up. Combat takes a page straight out of the Arkham series which has since pretty much set the standard for melee combat. The addition of fury mode makes combat more visceral and satisfying as you plow down bad guys with awesome moves like body slams, dropkicks, clotheslines, etc. Overall it's a really fun game that anyone that has an interest in the Mad Max series/universe will enjoy. Everything is there including the eccentric characters(Scrotus, Chumbucket, etc.), car chases and other doses of fan service like earning the title Road Warrior. And lastly car combat is also immensely enjoyable as you feel every crunch that your car deals out as you smash through gates, towers and other cars :) or even if you decide to harpoon the driver and take their car back to base for large amounts of scrap(currency here) also being an option. In summary, if you're fan of Mad Max and/or apocalyptic games take this one for spin and have a fun time waging war and surviving out in the wasteland. Final update 5 Sep 2015: After a couple marathon sessions (couldn't put it down) finally reached the end clocking in at ~45 hours playtime. Completing the game unlocked some awesome extras that harken back to the old Mad Max movies as well as allowing for free roam to tie up any loose ends. Much of the time was spent doing side quests and roaming the wasteland to unlock needed upgrades for Max and the Magnum Opus (his car). Yes it did get repetitive as the hours went as you might have heard, but the payoff was having an amazing death mobile that went from barely being able to haul groceries home to being a beastly machine that could easily take on heavily guarded conveys which is one of the more enjoyable parts of the side stuff. This also extended to Max and his myriad amount of moves for taking out bad guys from melee reversals and executions to wall finishers. Only downside to this game was some pretty noticeable sometimes crippling slow down in the middle of the more frantic parts of the game though it definitely didn't drag the game down too much for too long. In short, despite its small flaws here and there (slow down and repetitive elements) I stand by my original rating and still highly recommend this game.

Fury Road sequel lives up to the films of Mad Max

Mad Max the game picks up as a sequel to Fury Road, and really lives up to the franchise. Mad Max is part of the "open world" games that have become so overdone (choice is nice, but sometimes, a well-told story with a beginning and end is really just a preferable option) that I have a love/ hate relationship with. I have a severe case of gaming ADD, so even when a game has severe focus, I can lose interest rather quickly. When it comes to open-world games, I love to buy them, but hate them because I end up overwhelmed by the lack of direction and usually set it aside to pick up later... And never once pick it back up again. Games like GTA, Elder Scrolls, and others all make my collection, and I usually love what I play, but at some point, the sheer amount of activities just makes me feel like there's a neverending process that won't free me up to enjoy another game from my vast library, and it gets shelved. Not so with Mad Max. While MM's VAST world is a veritable wasteland without bustling sidewalks and skyscrapers, it's still... despite being a giant desert, for the most part... gorgeous. Hunting down scrap... or, better yet, "making your own" by destroying marauding vehicles, makes the farming part of the game light years more enjoyable than most games. The setting, as mentioned above, is beautiful, and if the roaming packs of war boys doesn't keep your eyes and ears open, the random freakish storms will. Every so often, as seen in Fury Road, a giant sandstorm or, (even cooler- lightning storm) will hit. If you're stuck with no shelter, pray your car offers enough to fend it off (it won't... at least not for the storm's length)... as the storms rage, huge pieces of debris will whip around, damaging you and/ or your car... Make your way somewhere safe and FAST. Even if no shelter is easily found, the "other side" of a hill will help. Beyond the negatives of the storms, there is a positive- large unearthed crates filled with scrap will be flung about for you to hunt down and strike it rich... but, war boys will also be hot on their trail. A special acknowledgement for the lightning storms. Saw my first last night after a week of playing, and it was GORGEOUS. Lightning strikes all around you, which is quite the sight, but seeing the electricity randomly hit the ground, then snake about like twisted, searching fingers is really something else. Fighting in the game is broken down into two parts- Max as a character, and Max in his new car, the "Magnum Opus" (within the opening moments of the game, Max is left for dead (hence, why, like most games, your character starts with no weapons/ armor) and his famous Interceptor is scrapped). Like Max, the Magnum Opus is fully upgradeable and customizeable (including car bodies)- and both use scrap to level up. His hand to hand combat plays out in the free-flow system made famous by the Batman Arkham games, which is always gorgeous to watch play out, even if it feels much like a game of rock-paper-scissors... Satisfying, and still a new enough system where it hasn't been overdone to death. Fighting in the Magnum Opus is wonderful fun. While you shouldn't expect the cars to handle very realistically (there ARE stats that effect how it handles) yet, unlike so many other open-world games that either a) have cars, but have streets and traffic or b) have huge, vast areas of open space, but are stuck in a fantasy setting where there are no cars, this first try at sticking cars into a land that widely devoid of traffic and buildings is still amazingly fun. The cars often feel underweight- and completely incapable of flipping over- which is a shame. But, having this as the negative versus what you CAN DO in the car is perfectly acceptable. Adding armor, ramming grills, shredders, boarding spikes, nitrous, a harpoon and a sniper rifle, among other options, with each having multiple upgrades, gives you this feeling of being much tougher than you are when you first begin. While you'll start off against weaker machines, you best invest time in following the storyline while running side missions and looting scrap as often as you can... Otherwise, you'll find yourself on the short end of some fights when running up against convoys. The inclusion of "Chumbucket", your blackfinger sidekick, who had the dream that's making the Magnum Opus possible, is a great way to give you a way to repair your vehicle without having to return to your base. Chum is handy for your vehicle repairs and upgrades, but can occasionally be a bit annoying with a limited vocabulary that you'll be hearing often, especially when you see the size of the map (may be the largest I've ever seen) and realize you have LOTS to do in the wasteland. Another great way the developers have handled all this free-roaming and managed it wonderfully for you on such an impressive map is by letting you make your Magnum Opus upgrades without a return to base. It may not make much sense, but it's HIGHLY appreciated. (Even the bases you visit (while I refer to them as "yours" they really belong to warlords that also want the surviving son of Immortan Joe dead, and see you as a means to that end). Keep in mind, just like in the movies, resources are precious. From water (used to replenish health when using your canteen), to fuel, to shotgun shells, none are in great stock in the world. You'll often find yourself making a call on whether your health REALLY IS low enough to risk drinking from your canteen before you find more of the refreshing stuff. When do you start using your shotgun? when surrounded by 3 enemies? 4? 5? While MM isn't PERFECT, it sure as heck is a fun ride. In a world this size, making your "leveling" resource (scrap) a guaranteed reward for blowing up some cars removes the grind; removing the need to return to base for every upgrade leaves more time to explore and raid enemy camps and convoys. There was a concerted effort here to ensure that people playing Max weren't going to get burnt out during the grinding sessions- that it would actually remain fun. This is a game more likely to be higher than a 4.5, but not quite a 5. Its few flaws are drowned out by the sound of Max's V8 coming over the horizon with a crew of war boys wanting to be witnessed. Don't hesitate. Buy Mad Max, and hopefully the developers will reward us with a sequel before the next movie.

My psn name is Ninjarob71605 so all of you can see I actually am currently playing this game to add validity to this review. The reason I provide this is review sites like IGN, Gamespot, and others do not prove that they actually play games. Anyway, Mad Max is a very fun game. The driving mechanics are much better than Arkham Knight's which seemed so closed off and unwelcoming. In this wasteland, you play as Max driving your car (Magnum Opus) with a trusted friend in Chumbucket who fixes your car. The game is basically driving around the wasteland to different outposts, fighting bad guys (arkham style), collecting scrap (to upgrade your magnum opus and also max's abilities), vehicle convoy missions, taking out sniper towers, gathering water to increase your health, and collecting gas to make your vehicle go. The missions get kind of repetitive (notice 4/5) or 80% which I feel the game deserves. It is a great game with nice graphics at a good frame rate. I really like this game and believe this game deserves more credit than it gets.

Mad Max the game is not as highly polished as, let's say Arkham Knight, however it has a solid style and tight controls in a beautiful open desert world. Loving the original and new Mad Max films, I was highly anticipating and following this games progress and release. And it has lived up to my expectations. The story, ability to drive anywhere in your customized vehicle, and simply the over-all style really has me hooked. I find myself spending hours just driving around. When the game first starts, you are limited to a smaller area, however the territories quickly open up and you are free to roam anywhere, anytime. The mini-map shows you anything of interest in the area. Lots to see and explore.

Definitely worth giving this game a chance and seeing for yourself why I have had more fun with this game than anything else released this year. The car and foot combat may be a little repetitive but it is very satisfying and brutal. The main standout of this game is the world around you. It is a great expansion on what we know from the films and it just drops you into this world devoid of almost all sanity and hope.

Admittedly, I'm not a big gamer. What I do play is either a present or a game I got from a friend; I rarely go out of my way to buy one! However, after playing Arkham Knight for the PS4, I heard about Mad Max and immediately went with a friend to buy it. And this is by far one of the best next-gen open world adventures out there. I've always preferred the open-world design, anyway, and this game pulls it off perfectly! The look of the landscape, the clever ironic twists in vehicle designs, and the wreckage of what was once a hospitable Australia are all so painstakingly perfected! The characters are eccentric, hilarious, and often grotesque, but not enough to make them too unpleasant to see. The game's overall goal is simple: Max lost his car and possessions, so now he's got to build a mew one practically from scratch. Even with the developing story arcs and side missions, the focus always comes back to building the ultimate machine to own the roads. Fans of the movies will love the faithful designs and easter eggs, and people who've never even heard of Max will like this surprisingly lighthearted new take on the whole "Post-apocalyptic wasteland" game. I haven't even come close to finishing the game, and I'm already sold on any possible sequels. I only have one complaint, and it's pretty unfortunate. Buying the Playstation 4 version will give you two DLC codes to unlock "The Ripper" and a selection of hood ornaments from "The Road Warrior." Now, The Ripper worked fine, it's a separate car body that looks pretty cool and I use it often. However, even though my account shows I renewed the hood ornament code, it never downloaded, gave me an option to download it, or even appeared in the game at all! This was a free add-on, so I won't complain too much about it not working, but still. It would be great if they could patch that, which I'm sure they will soon. Still a mind-blowing game, overall.

    Simple, But Fun

Mad Max is a game about Mad Max. Basically, you're Max, and you're both upset about a lot of things and a little crazy (it plays on two meanings of the word "mad," get it?!). A bad guy with a silly name is terrorizing a mostly-empty wasteland, so it's up to you to stop him. How do you do so? By driving to random encampments and punching the heck out of his followers. If it sounds simple, that's because it is - you essentially just drive around in Max's car (now the Magnum Opus) and reduce the threat level in different zones by collecting scrap and beating dudes up using an Arkham-light fighting system. So, why 4 stars? It's simple, yes. Derivative, sure. But it's just fun. The driving mechanics are competent enough to give you as much control over the car as you need; the fighting mechanics copied enough of Batman's system to be familiar but not overwhelmed with unnecessary gadgets; and the video game aspects (collecting things, reducing threat levels, incrementally upgrading your skills in the absolute lightest of RPG elements) are just satisfying enough to be enjoyable. It's weird, as I feel most open-world games pack too much into their space or get incredibly tedious and repetitive after a certain amount of time, but Mad Max hits a strange and almost inexplicable balance of ticking off all the boxes of a modern open-world game while still being satisfying enough to do the same tasks over and over again. So, basically combine the open style of GTA with Arkham's fighting system, add a sprinkle of Assassin's Creed's useless collecting and the smallest bit of Need for Speed's driving and upgrade system, and you have Mad Max. While that may sound like a nightmare, the whole is definitely greater than the sum of its parts.

It's the type of open world game you will keep coming back to just for the mayhem. The fighting dynamic is similar to Batman though easier to master. The driving is unrealistic but fun and nothing beats the satisfaction of taking out the opposition like using the harpoon to tear them apart piece by piece while driving at speed. The challenges can get a little repetitive but I can't think of any open world game that doesn't suffer from the same problem. Maybe it's telling us that two to three hours is enough at one time.. Always fun to come back to.

Mad Max is an awesome game in almost every way. The open world is immersive, the characters in game work, the fighting is superb, the vehicle combat is both unique in feel and is done to perfection, and the racing adds a new and fun option of things to do in the world. Outside of a few glitches, my only complaint is that some of the faces don't match the voices or the mouth movement is off when a character is talking.

This is going to be a very enjoyable game if you like the mix between the combat of the Arkham series and the open world of Assassin's Creed and Far Cry series. Even if you don't, it has enough unique elements and a good enough series to plough through the main story, but you really get your money's worth unlocking and traversing the open world.
