The weakest Mass Effect yet, highly unpolished

If you're like me, a returning vet of the original Mass Effect trilogy: lower your expectations. On a technical level, the game is buggy, and the character animations really are wooden and unbelievable when they're not outright goofy. Landscapes and things like water look "next gen", but the characters' faces look worse than they did in the first Mass Effect. The Mass Effect games were gripping for their interesting stories and personae, and the shooty bits helped punctuate the story with tactical gameplay. In Mass Effect Andromeda, the story is weak, the characters all seem like fan fiction creations, and the acting (both VA and again, the character animations) is stiffer and drier than a high school play. The Multiplayer from 3 returns largely unchanged but for the addition of "jump packs", which do add verticality to the maps. However, even this mode feels half-baked: none of the maps are terribly impressive or memorable, and they all have weird areas that seem to serve no purpose other than being death traps for noobs who haven't learned to avoid their bizarre layouts. It's still fun enough to play, especially if you have friends... but when the multiplayer is easily more fun than the single player in a Mass Effect game, you know something's wrong. I just can't believe this game took five years to produce. I guess the folks at EA's Bioware today must've just focused on the wrong things, like making the game open world (why? so I can get caught on rocks driving around huge boring planets?) instead of embracing the things that made the first two games so memorable and unique, like cinema-quality story telling and gameplay that actually complements character development.

A far cry from the original Trilogy

Andromeda is an OK game that feels incredibly unpolished in its current state. Compared to the original trilogy, the writing is poor, animations stink, character models are underwhelming or straight up ugly, dialogue is cringey, voice acting is questionable, inventory management is ME1 bad, crafting is overly complex with numerous amount of materials to keep track of, terrible menus to navigate, and an overall jankiness feel to the game. What the game does well is a sense of exploration that goes beyond any of the original ME games, and the combat feels quite good, except for the fact that there is no power wheel option for yourself or squadmates. The game gives you 3 powers to use up front, if you want to use anything else you have to go into the skill menu and reassign powers. Did I mention that you can't choose squadmate skills to use in combat? You just point and click to tell them what to attack or where to move, quite disappointing. Overall, the game is ok and hopefully can be improved in the future on the technical side, but you can't fix flawed core design and story writing. It's a decent game, but you'd be better off replaying the original trilogy for a far grander experience.

I've never played any of the Mass Effect franchise and I've been assured that the others are actually really good but this one... man.... been a while since I really disliked a game this much. Don't put too much weight into this because I only played for about four or five hours (straight) but it takes forever to get to where anything is actually explained beyond glancing, just go do it. I'm not a huge fan of third person shooters, I mainly play Destiny but I wanted to try something different until Destiny 2 comes out. I tried, and I'll probably never put it back in my PS4 again. Oh well, not super bummed because it was $15 Graphics are pretty good but the camera look around is sometimes horrible and the chatting one on one with npc sometimes glitches and jumps around. I really want to give this one another chance but I was so disappointed so far.

The game play is solid, but playing through the multiplayer and single player you start to see errors (crashing every so often in multiplayer) and bugs (ie uncompletable quests). I can't recommend buying this game until they fix the numerous issues in both the single and multiplayer.

I was very disappointed in this game. The lackluster storyline, forgettable characters, and unforgiving facial expressions kill this game for me. the only redeeming factors are the great combat mechanics and the travel between planets is gorgeous in 4K.

This game is so far, the worst in the series. The animation is horrible, and the voice acting is sub par, at best. Combat is mediocre, but the story isnt all that bad. As big as this title is, you never would expect them to completely drop the ball like this.

For $10-20 this game would be great. But for the pre-order price I paid, I feel like I never want to buy another EA/Bioware/Mass Effect game again. The game is so glitchy and choppy and just downright ugly at times. Do yourself a HUGE favor and wait for this to drop price and for the developer to fix all the glaring issues first.

Let me say first of all this game is not a terrible game, the 2/5 score reflects the standard and expectation this game came nowhere close to reaching. A game that is horribly inferior to previous games in the series, in all respects.

While the game is fun, it has so many flaws that it isn't worth buying it at full price. I would recommend anyone that is a fan of the series to wait until the price is lowered or until all the patches that can be made are made. Or until the complete edition comes so that you can get all of the content once it is all out.

Unfortunately the series died after the 3rd. I really wish they pulled this off but I traded it in without waiting a year to see if they fix it. I may give it another go on a super sale, but nothing over 15. It just didn't give the same feel as the old games. I want my shepard back.

It is only a decent game after the original Mass Effect trilogy. New gameplay, yet story was kinda weak compared to previous games in the series. Get this game cheap only.

The gameplay is not so fun, the talking slows it down. I do not recommend unless you are a die hard Mass Effect player and even then you may actually be more turned off by this game. Boring Game
