    Good alternative to a tablet

    The slim size and weight of this computer is wonderful. But if I knew the following, I probably would not have bought this computer: Poor track pad - scrolling down lengthy pages with 2 fingers is very inconsistant. After a few scrolls, it doesn't detect 2 fingers on the pad and instead moves the curser instead of scrolling the page as if you are using only one finger. This happens over and over and is very frustrating. This one flaw would have kept me from buying this computer if I only knew this happened. Also, it would be much easier to detect where the curser is on the page if the curser was black instead of white. Also, gray keys make the faint letters and numbers hard to see until you touch a key and the back light comes on. Keys should be black with white lettering regardless of the color of the computer. The computer does everything that all computers do these days. But a little more thought about user-friendly design and a better track pad would have made it perfect.

    The Surface Laptop is a well designed laptop. The screen is sharp, the keyboard has a lot of travel, and it looks very premium. The alcantara material on the computer where you rest your palms feel weird but it's okay overall. However, there are a few problems. First of all, the CPU, ram, and storage are soldered onto the computer. This means that when your computer slows down and you're looking for an upgrade, you need to buy a completely new one. Second of all, if you damage any part of the computer, you won't be able to repair it yourself. Accessing it will require you to destroy the alcantara. When you get inside of it, you have to take almost everything apart to replace what you need to replace. I also heard that the battery is very difficult to place, and it is one of the parts that will definitely degrade over time. Third of all, the 128GB SSD, atleast, is very slow. In fact, it's almost as slow as a 7200 rpm hard drive. Of course, as you fill a hard drive up, it will slow down a lot. However, 128GB is very little. The laptop comes with about 45 Wh battery, which is 10 less than the base Macbook Pro "13 (2016/7) and 25 less than the Surface Book. And you can get a base Surface book with more ram for about the same price (as of now) on a website named after a rainforest. So no, don't get it.

    I just really want to make my point...

    It might be worth 2 stars, but not for $2K. I've had it for 3 months and the screen is discoloring in places, the keys fall of and crumble, and it regularly gets viruses (when I dont download anything) despite my having purchased the 3 years of protection from Best Buy and having had it installed. Last time I took it in they told me it would take 3 weeks to get back! I'm a law student, I didn't have 3 minutes. Now its having the same breakdown where I cannot store documents because disk space is full so I have to take it in again. I can definitely take another 3 week long break from law school. No big deal... if you're buying this because you're a new tech enthusiast and will not need to rely on this in anyway go for it, but if not, please do buy buy this thing!

    Great new computer!

    My detachable has started to act up lately, so I went to look for a replacement. I had done some minor research on the new Microsoft Surface computers but had not seen any in person. I spoke with 2 staff members who were both very helpful and knowledgeable and left with a new Surface Laptop. It is wonderful! It's small, light, fast and does all I need it to do. The battery life is quite good and, best of all for me, it does not detach like my old HP did. Thus, it is less likely to break apart and fall off the table or my lap. I am very happy with my new Microsoft laptop and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a new system.

    2nd time returning

    I loved this the first time I got it about 3 months ago and after about 1 month I had to return because the facial recognition feature didn't recognize me and had no access to restore settings. So I went without a smaller computer for a couple of months, but missed having access, so I figured I'll try again....this time I didn't do facial recognition, I just used password. I've had for about a week and the same thing happened. Since I can't even sign in at all, I have no way to get to the settings ....freaking frustrating. I'll be returning this tomorrow...there will be no third times a charm.

    I walked in thinking I wanted a Mac. Told the sales associate Chris Who was exceptional the specs I wanted like a backlit keyboard, touchscreen and so forth. With my requests he landed on The surface laptop and I couldn’t be more happy. I was buying it for school and now I have started a sales job and it has just come in super handy. It does everything I need. Battery life is amazing and it’s also sleek and sexy .

    This laptop is really light and feel durable. I bought a few of them as I have a small business. Battery is great it can go all day without a problem, the screen is bright enough for our needs, and the keboard feels great to type on. The track pad works really well, close enough to a Mac's. I have noticed that the fabric is getting dirty around the area where you place the hand close to the track pad. Have not tried to clean it, not sure how easy or hard that will be. Something I would like for it to have is a 360 degree hing to be able to turn it around to comfortably write on it when needed, sometimes we need to sign documents or take some quick notes.

    Quality build

    The packaging was very nice. You can feel the laptop is built from quality materials, feels very nice in the hand. Love how you can open it with one hand, no need to hold the base down to do so. Upgrading from Windows 10s to 10 Pro took maybe 3 minutes (depends on your internet connection). Boots up in about 5 seconds. Display is fantastic. One complaint, the price. $1000 for 4gb ram and a 128 gb SSD seems like way too much.

    I love this laptop! I have always been an Apple fan, but after a product defect and horrible customer service, I decided not to waste my money on a MacBook Pro again. So I bought this laptop instead. This is my second year with it and I still love it! The charger itself is pretty cool. It has a USB port that allows you to charge your phone and your laptop at the same time, instead of using up a port on the laptop. And the fact that it’s touch screen is just a cherry on top :)

    I went in wanting the most basic laptop possible. All I use it for is occasionally surfing the web. Somehow this was presented to me as the most basic laptop. It has a touch screen, which I never use. It also uses facial recognition to log me in which is kind of unnecessary - half the time it doesn't work anyways. It's a great laptop for someone. It was just more expensive and has more features than I need. I give it 4 stars because it's a good laptop, but expensive. Maybe if I was using more of the features I would be more inclined to give it 5 stars.

    I got the VERY LAST microsoft surface laptop when I went to Aiea’s Best Buy. I’m thoroughly pleased with how well this laptop is performing. I have no technical issues to report. The only thing is I’m deathly afraid of getting the Alcantara dirty... but that’s about it! I love my new laptop and I can’t believe people say it’s not a quality laptop. It’s amazing!

    Difficult set up and transfer of data

    Problems with Outlook 2016: address book would not transfer from previous computer. Had to engage Geek Squad twice to get even some of my contacts. Six weeks after purchase Outlook quit working-could not receive or send email. August 5 & 7 sought help from Microsoft. After two long sessions, Outlook is receiving and sending, but ALL contacts and complete address book were deleted! I now have to recreate my address book! It seems that Windows 10S s not understood even by Microsoft technicians. I hope I don't have additional problems!

    I really wanted this laptop to work

    So this was supposed to be a replacement for a 2012 MacBook Air. Got it for my mother so she could take care of basic office work like scanning and uploading documents. After a few weeks the computer would lock up in sleep and had to be hard reset to be usable again. Thought it was a one time thing, but started happening every time we closed the screen. Spending that kind of money on something that didn't work really upset me. Ended up having her go back to the MacBook Air,and no problems with that again.

    Good Laptop, But Pricey and Nothing Special

    This is a good, fast, portable laptop, but if you are strapped for cash, there are many good alternatives which offer the same features or more, and honestly there is nothing this laptop will not offer any special features to win you over , plus the I/O on this laptop could be better, such as providing at least one USB C/Thunderbolt port instead of a mini display port, and i am worried of how the alcantara will stay clean after some time, also Windows 10S is not good, immediatly upgrade to 10

    I purchased the Surface laptop for school and instantly upgraded to Windows Pro. It's alright but definitely not my favorite. There's some issues with buttons not working as they're supposed to and the screen doesn't split as it's needed to. The hard drive on it is also pathetically small, which I didn't realize until I tried to transfer over the data from my old laptop and it used all of the hard drive and still wasn't enough. Oh, well. Won't make that mistake next time.

    I bought this computer for school and so far it has not disappointed me. It is lightweight, has a great feel to it, the screen resolution is beautiful, and it runs well. I was concerned about the small storage space, but most of my files are saved in Dropbox or google drives so it wasn't a problem. I thankfully was able to download the student edition of Microsoft 10 because the software that comes on the computer is pretty stinky.

    sure its lightweight and beautiful but not durable. Sadly i spilled coffee onto the keyboard after about a month of owning this computer and a few keys stopped working. Microsoft's recommendation was to throw it out and buy a new one. Really? Not helpful and very wasteful. I have owned dell's and thinkpad's before and also spilled coffee on those without any issues (yes i am clumsy). if you want durability, get a different brand.

    A masterpiece of design. I prefer the laptop version. It’s slim and light. Some Microsoft functions are quirky on it but not critical. Would be better if it had a traditional charging plug like many other devices. Overall quick and slim with a crisp large screen for a low profile less than 14 inch screen. It’s bright and scrolls well. Battery life is fair. Facial recognition is better than good.

    Was looking for a light laptop with a quality screen. I compared it to the table at BB that was selling some high end chromebooks. This one seems to have the best value, bigger screen and just as nice of a quality display. It has very good hidden speakers under the keys and almost as light as the 12.3 chromebooks. The only thing I don't like is the loud mousepad.

    I wanted a laptop that I could use that was fast, easy and worth what I paid for. Well, this is it! I'm not "techy"by any means so it was important that this be user friendly. I love the touchscreen, the feel of the keyboard and ease of use with security backing me up. Even my adult children said it was amazing.
