The issues I had in 4 Ultimate manly stemmed from the fact that the game was intensely hard, with the arts and hunting styles I feel like this has opened up a lot of opportunity for me to really be able to enjoy it. What the game lacks in how it punishes you it more than makes up for how well it handles teaching you these new ways to play. I know a few can say that when you give people the opportunity to play it like an easy mode it takes away some of the challenge but the reality for me is that it gives me a chance to feel like I'm actually able to handle what all is going on in the game. I don't feel like entire swaths of content is locked up around my inability to do solo content. I actually feel like I better get the weapons I am using, I feel like I understand the one that really clicked with me. Mounting changes are absolutely fantastic, Areal style has added such a fun twist. Kinsect changes make so much more sense, glaives not being tied to their bugs has been a GODSEND, and nothing has been funnier than watching a heavy bow gun user fling himself up into the air. Outside of course my dodge of an attack while yelling "YOLO" and getting killed by a baby tap from a small mob. The game's new areas on the N3DS XL has been downright gorgeous, I'm impressed with the flagship monsters, and the amount of things to do has been absolutely what I've been looking for.

Monster Hunter is not a game for everyone. For new players it's confusing, the combat is slow, and there is a ridiculous amount of information to learn. But when you stick with it and learn how the game works, it becomes immensely addicting and rewarding. I started playing with MH3U and couldn't get into it. I tried again with MH4U and started the game at the same time as a friend of mine who guided me. That's when I became hooked. 300+ hours in MH4U and there was still a lot of content I didn't do. There is a lot of grinding and repetition so if that isn't your thing then probably look elsewhere. I love MH now and will play each future installment from now on. If you want to give this game a shot, I highly recommend playing with someone who can teach how the game works.

If you are a fan of the series, this is another good game to enjoy. Story is not the best, but most people play for the online co-op. The game is sort of a best of the past games, so lots of new monsters or ones you haven't seen for a few games. Certainly worth picking up if you join battling online working together with friends or random people. Works better on a new 3Ds vs the OG.

Monster Hunter Generations is the next step in the series, and what a step it is. It introduces new mechanics -- some that should stay and others that need some work -- but the main additions are the new Hunter Styles/Arts and the Prowler 'class.' Hunter Styles are a fantastic addition as it gives multiple flavors for each weapon type and Hunter Arts are like these 'super moves' that typically do a ton of damage if they connect. While there are some questionable balance decisions (Gunlance nerfs, Striker Switch Axe, Adept Long Sword...) the game is an absolute blast to play. It isn't that difficult in comparison to previous entries, but do not take that as it being an easy game. Monster Hunter Generations is a very difficult game that expects the player to learn it's mechanics and the monster's tells to succeed. Its a game about growing as a hunter and learning the monster's.
Gathering has been improved dramatically via Prowlers due to them having infinite stamina and infinite gathering items (pickaxes, bug nets, etc). This one small improvement fixes a huge barrier for new players.
All-in-all, Monster Hunter Generations is more of a sidestep in the series rather than the next full-fledged sequel to the series. Its an experimental title and a celebration of the Monster Hunter series, but it's a dang good celebration. It belongs in any 3DS owner's library.

Monster Hunter for Everyone

Monster Hunter always felt a bit too complicated and there wasn't enough explanation but that has gradually gotten better as it shifted onto Nintendo platforms. This game is still a bit learning by doing, but it eases the player in much better in steps than earlier games. While the last 3DS Monster Hunter was much better at actually providing an adequate amount of information without being forced online, this one is quite a bit more well paced in my opinion, with less difficulty spikes. It also has villages from earlier titles which is somewhat nostalgic and fun. I do think this title would be better on a home console instead though, with a more stable system for getting online with friends.
Also, you should have a Circle Pad Pro or a *new* 3DS, since that camera control helps considerably in game and avoids hand cramps like the PSP earlier releases in the series. I'm on the original 3DS and the framerate and game texture isn't enough for me to want a *new* 3DS unit as it plays fine.

This game follows and tried and true Monster Hunter formula while adding countless quality-of-life features and awesome new gameplay with the new styles and hunter arts. I have played ever iteration of Monster Hunter since Freedom Unite, and this is easily my favorite Monster Hunter game. Perfectly recommended for both veterans and newbies alike.

I play this almost every night. Of course I never touched a monster hunter game before, so learning how to play was a little tough. I love that they let you change weapons instead of forcing you to commit to one. Also love that you can make your armor, a lot of them look super cool!

This game is basically Monster Hunter 4 on steroids. It takes the mechanics of MH4, adds four new styles that change up the way the game is played. They also bring back old popular maps and bosses from prior games as well. Definitely worth playing if you're a fan of the series.

Both veterans and new players alike will enjoy this latest edition to the Monster Hunters series. For veterans, it makes some small yet significant changes and improves upon the previous installment (Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate) like continuous gathering/carving and the upgrade mechanics for the Insect Glaive weapon. You get to visit some familiar villages from the previous installments from some nostalgic goodness while also experiencing new content and features. For new players, the game is easier to grasp with the new hunter arts/styles. Monster Hunter never ceases to amaze me and hope to see this positive trend for this beloved series.

Monster Hunter Generations is a great jump forward for the Monter Hunter franchise. The addition of four hunter styles and their corresponding arts goes a long way to let you customize your character and playstyle. If you're looking for a solid action game that will hold you for a LONG time, this is the game for you.
The only drawback I see is that Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate had a story, this one barely has any story at all. That's disappointing, but the way the game plays is why you come to this game.

Okay so Monster Hunter Gen shakes things up a bit with the addition of hunting styles and hunter arts this allows you to augment your hunter to fit you, over all it makes the game a little more action like with cool special moves in addition their are are 4 flagship monsters and a whole new breed of monsters entirely called variants which are monsters that have grown stronger by surviving past hunts!
-As a minus for some this game does NOT have G-rank still with all the new additions it is worth the purchase, also worth noting is variant monsters go up in level ranging from 1-10 at 10 some are basically G-rank
p.s. Hyper monster are an other addition some what like variants, they do a LOT more damage

Monster Hunter Generations is the best game in the series with 14 different weapons and 4 different fighting styles. If you're looking to jump into the series I'd look at 4U as this is geared towards veteran hunters imo. If you like 4U, jump into Generations. MH is like sports games in that the latest version is the best version (usually). Also best when enjoyed with others, you'd certainly get a lot with a mentor/friend to help you out if you're new to MH.

This is another solid installation. For seasoned fans, definitely pick this game up and enjoy all the great additions to the game.
To new comers, I'd recommend starting with this game. Go online and watch some help videos or visit the monster hunter subreddit. The game has a bit of a learning curve but it's well worth learning how to play. Try it and give it some time to learn. I taught a friend and now he's addicted like I am

This game takes the best of all the previous titles and packs into one full fledged game. They didn't just take the best of the old games but they brought great new features too. New hunting styles, playing as a Palico, and new monsters. Great game overall that's already taken up a bunch of my attention and free time.

This game is basically an amalgamation of the entire series of games and all of their features, except the underwater stuff. Capcom hates their fans who enjoyed that. All of the villages we know and love are there Pokke, Yukumo, etc.
The monsters, the felyne companions, multiplayer, and gameplay have returned. The translation hasn't. Killer beetles are now Shiny beetles. Nearly a dozen games in and now this. Forget your localization team Capcom, Text size limitations begone. This game gets points for all of the new stuff like arts and styles, allowing you to: jump on and over any monster to attack them, rewarding your timed dodges with longer invincibility time and the ability to counter right after, or even just wail on the monsters with constantly charged art guages. Though if you want to play the familiar vanilla way you can. The new monsters are as hilarious as they are deadly and are a blast to fight solo or multi.
The DLC is super fun and sets one of the best examples for free dlc any game should have.
This game is chockful of content and I love it.

The sheer volume of quests and weapons and monsters also means that, quite apart from being a brilliant game, this has incalculable longevity. The life of a hunter isn’t for everyone. But if killing something massive, carving it up, and making a snazzy hat seems in any way appealing, then Monster Hunter Generations might be your game of the year.
