Customers often highlight the ease of use, reliable performance, and attractive price of the 16 x 4 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem. Many appreciate the straightforward setup and compatibility with various internet service providers. While some users noted that the device can get warm during operation and the indicator lights could be improved, the positive feedback on performance and ease of use outweighs these minor concerns. Overall, the modem is viewed favorably for its functionality and value.

Great modem to replace Comcast leased modem

I had been looking to replace my Comcast leased modem and researched several DOCSIS 3.0 modems. I was focused on performance and reliability. I narrowed my search down to the Netgear CM500-100NAS and the Motorola Arris SURFboard 600 Series DOCSIS 3.0, Model SB6183. The performance specs were similar, although the Motorola had a slightly longer warranty. But the Motorola was also $30 more than the Netgear. I've owned products from both companies before and found both were well made and performed well. I opted to keep a few bucks in my pocket and went with the Netgear. Set-up was a breeze. The only negative (and why I gave it four stars instead of five) is that the lights are relatively small and can't be seen from a variety of angles. Not a big deal, but when my internet goes down, I typically glace at the modem to eyeball the status. Now I have to move to the modem to check its status if I'm working from my laptop in another room. This is only a minor issue as far as I'm concerned. But so far, great product and reliable performance. Recommended.

I wanted to cut out Comcast rental fees since at the end of each year they equated to the cost of a router or modem. Free PSA for everyone: a separate router and modem combo is always better performance wise, and in long term financially than an all-in-one router-modem like the one you get from Xfinity. I upgraded my parents internet to 250Mbps and while I was at it, decided to get rid of the rental equipment from Comcast. Granted this router is overkill for their needs since it can provide 680Mbps according to the specs but it does provide future upgrade ability on their internet plans. This is certified to work with Xfinity and you will need to get a separate router to get wifi. I had to return the initial one that I bought because it was DOA (Dead On Arrival) but that happens with any tech, and the setup and installation was easy. If you're wondering whether to part ways with your rental box... DO IT. It's really easy to set up a modem and router and you don't need to know tech to be able to do it. I have one of these routers for my own place, its been reliable and hasn't dropped a connection yet.

Works great with Time Warner 200 or 300 Mbps

I purchased this to replace an existing modem that I had, which due to channel bonding, was not capable of achieving speeds higher than 100 Mbps on Time Warner's service. This modem's channel bonding is 16x4, allowing it to achieve the full 300 Mbps service (perhaps higher, if/when they offer it). It's also cheaper than the Motorola SB6183, the only other modem I am currently aware of that can support the 200 Mbps and 300 Mbps tiers. The modem was extremely easy to activate. I simply unplugged my old one, hooked this up to the coax cable, and connected an ethernet cable to my computer. Within a minute or two I was able to launch a browser and visit www.activatemymodem.com which was simple and painless. The modem started working right away and at that point I disconnected the computer and connected my wireless router, completing my network setup. The modem generally tests above the maximum bandwidth of my plan. I have the 200 Mbps plan with Time Warner and I have tested as high as 225 Mbps down and 23.5 Mbps up. It has been powered on and rock-solid since I connected it one month ago. The LEDs to indicate status are visible but not obnoxiously bright. I highly recommend this modem!

I got this for our vacation home as I was not going to pay the local cable company to rent theirs each month. The speed offered is plenty for our house. Set up was very easy...there really isn't much to a modem. Like others have said it does get a little warm so I would give it some breathing room. It is very lightweight and feels cheap but it seems to be doing a fine job so far.

I have two online gamers in the house and we are definitely reaching our internet capabilities without even trying consistently 1.2 terabyte of Internet a month with 4 computers 3 smart tvs and..... alot of gaming consoles (not all used at once obviously) but this Internet modem gets hot really hot, hasn't died yet but it definitely needs a restart and cool down halfway through Sunday but still going strong And it's pointless to buy the more expensive router Because the Internet coming to our house is not any faster

Dumping my Comcast/Xfinity cable TV service, picking up Netflix and Hulu with Live TV and combining this modem with a WIFi router saves me a bundle every month and I can still catch the NFL games! Since the Comcast/Xfinity modem rental has gone to $13 per month, the $70 cost is offset within a few months. I was also able to move the WiFi to a more central location in my house which gives us much better dual-band coverage throughout. Yes, the modem runs warm but not extremely hot. I have it sitting on top of a bookshelf in my home office with 4 to 6 inches of clearance around all sides. I've been running it for about a month and have not needed to reboot it at all. In that time frame, I would have had to power cycle the Comcast/ Xfinity gateway 3 or 4 times to regain internet connection. Overall, I'm very happy with this modem. My only "wish list" addition would be an ethernet connection to go directly to my desktop PCs in the same room. But that would require the addition of an internal router which would increase the cost.

I like the modem a lot. No issues so far. It was very inexpensive. It was easy to setup. The longest most annoying part was dealing with my cable provider to update their system with the new modem info but that was on their end. The modem its self has been great, I’m getting strong internet speeds. I hope it stays that way. Best of all, I returned the piece of crap modem/router my internet provider was overcharging me monthly for. Within two billing cycles this modem has paid for itself.

Finally switched my Motorola SB6131 to this model after Comcast upgraded my line to 150Mbps. The Moto box wasn't handling it very well but this one worked like a charm and runs very cool. ++ Easy setup ++ XFINITY was able to recognize it immediately and also pushed down a firmware upgrade as soon as it was connected -- My only complaint would be that the modem was built to sit on a flat surface & the base is one piece with the body. There is no way to mount the modem like you could with Motorola.

I know several folks who are renting their cable modems for Xfinity- and they do it out of convenience. This modem is perfect for all your needs and requires very little to setup. All you need is a cable to run from the wall to the back of this modem (which isn't included) and an Ethernet cable (which is included) to plug into your wireless router. It does get a little warm to the touch but nothing to be concerned about. Perfect for an apartment or condo. I'm using it for for 1100 square feet with a Google Wifi mesh router and it's rocking along just fine.

Moved to a new apartment in Pittsburgh and needed to establish service with Xfinity. They offered to rent me a modem for $10 a month, but I opted to buy this one to save money long term. The modem was easy to set up, and exactly what I needed. The connection is fast (60-70 mbps down, 4-6 mbps up) and reliable. The product was exactly what I needed at a reasonable price with no extra bells or whistles.

Easy to setup, reliable and affordable! Signal is very good! we had for long time an Arris SURFBoard modem and at the end it needed to be replaced (it needed to be rebooted almost everyday) .......this time we decided to move to a different brand and try NETGEAR. We can say we are pretty happy with our new modem...no more connection lost!

For our use case this is a great modem, and far less expensive than renting one from our ISP. At the prices we got this and were offered to rent by our ISP it pays for itself in 4 months. It is not good for those wanting a true gigabit connection. It works well up to about 500mp and is perfect for a 300mp or less (we are currently using a 50mp, but have run it on a 300mp). If you are getting a gigabit connection you will need to purchase the next model up from here, but for most home/office situations this unit is great. We play online games, while streaming an HD movie, and someone surfing the web with no bottleneck or buffering issues.

This is a great modem that checks all the boxes. It performs well, has a capacity that exceeds my needs, and works with my service provider (Cox Communications). With Cox i can also reset and sync my modem on their customer app/page which limits my need to talk to support if there are ever any issues. I recommend this router as it does everything you need and is VERY easy to use. As far as i'm concerned, it's top of the line and plug and play, two things i love.

No issues. Needed to make the typical call to my service provider first (in my case, Time Warner cable), so that they could do what was necessary on their end to recognize this new cable modem. Once connected, my cable modem has been working fine ever since. I've not had any connectivity issues, so my experience is that I'm just as happy now, as I was previously when using the leased cable modem from Time Warner. The only difference is (of course) I now own my cable modem and don't have to pay the ridiculous monthly lease fee anymore. It works well while connected with my Netgear router too. Also, while physically at the Time Warner Cable center for returning my leased cable modem, I overheard a couple having a conversation about their internet. I chimed in and informed them about this product, and told them I'd recommend they take this approach rather than leasing. I also told them where they could find this product (Best Buy).

I've always been a fan of Netgear. They're products are solid and extremely user friendly. So it made sense that if I had a Netgear router I should use a Netgear modem. No complaints so far. Lighting display is easy to understand and lights are not too bright. (They might be a little too dim). Overall this has been a great modem.
