Reliable Router on a Budget
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first router and I have been very happy with it. The setup is very simple and takes less than 10 minutes, although you do need to follow the instructions since there is a specific order in which you are supposed to do things. Within minutes I had my WPA key encrypted--WEP and WPA2 are also offered--and was online with both my PC and PS3. Being somewhat of a power-user, when I started getting into some of the more advanced features I was pleased to find them logically organized in the router config with helpful explanations of each setting along the side of the screen; a very pain free experience... if you know what it is that you're trying to do. The transfer speeds are quite acceptable. When transferring files between my PC and PS3, for example 700MB at a 75% connection, it only takes 2-3 minutes to get the job done. And as far as gaming, Web browsing, or downloading is concerned I have experienced little to no lag. Over several months of use I have had very few dropped connections (not counting someone firing up the microwave), and really no large issues of any kind. The only bug that has crept up is the router somehow not recognizing my WPA key. This has happened twice so far, and only required my returning to the router configuration screen to re-enter the password; however it is very odd that I have not once, but twice had this occur. Other than that one issue, I am very pleased and give this product my full recommendation.

Great wireless router
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this wireless router to use at my Aunts house down in Florida since she did not have one and I needed to take my MacBook Pro and work wireless for some clients while I was at her house. This wireless router is a basic one that will only connect a limited amount of wireless devices. If you are going to connect NAS, multiple wireless devices and IP camera's, I would advise not to purchase this wireless router and spend the $150 for a bigger capacity one.

Simple Setup, Solid Performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I discontinued my dependence on the cable company for my Internet and went with a local provider. We have two desktops, two laptops, a netbook, an iPad, and a Blackberry that all use WiFi access to the Internet. I installed the WGR614 Netgear 802.11g Wireless Router in my utility closet (where my Internet enters the house) and I've got solid signal upstairs and down. My entire network is totally wireless. It was a piece of cake to configure, including security. One of my desktop computers and a printer are connected to a WGPS606 Netgear Wireless Print Server, which receive their network connectivity through the Wireless Router. We've been using this setup round-the-clock for about two months now and haven't had any problems at all. I deliberately selected the less exensive "slower" model because the 54Mbps network speed is higher than my 10Mbps Internet source speed. We don't do a lot of network communications between devices and so we didn't feel the higher speed router was necessary. Someday, when we move into a bigger house and do more file sharing between machines, I will probably upgrade to a faster Netgear router. But for right now, this serves our needs at a very reasonable price.

Excellent buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace a Dynex POJ. Was a great buy thus far. The Dynex died on its second birthday, to the day. The Netgear actually makes my laptop faster, it feels like!! Here's the skinny: This router is routing signal to 3 laptops and 1 desktop pc, and as I said before, my laptop actually seems to surf faster since I installed it. My son feels the same way- he plays some galaxy gate game which streams live... Speaking of installation: SUPER easy!! Great buy for the money!! Happy surfing!

Excellent & Priced Right
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Saw this router right beside a Belkin N for the same price. I questioned getting the Netgear because I was afraid of the signal strength not being strong enough to get around the apartment and on the balcony area so I researched them both on the Best Buy website while in store on the Macs. To my surprised the Belkin was scoring low and this little guy was being touted as one of the best at that price. So I chose the Netgear after reading reviews. It was super easy to install and set up. Took about 5 mins at the most. The signal strength was also more surprising. The apartment now uses it as the wireless base and since its now in the closet I was afraid at how the signal strength would be affected and it still just works like its in the open. I have full coverage in the whole apartment, coverage on the balcony and even on the third floor I can still use the router outside on the ground floor at my car. Its amazing how above and beyond the coverage is on this. I highly reccommend it!

Reliable little thing...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this and it's modified older version for a VERY long time. they work GREAT. I've been using this same router for over 5 years now and it works perfect. I bought this recently because I gave the other router to my grandmother since she's no expert and I expect it won't cause her any problems. I'm happy with this purchase. This router gives me speeds of upto 75 in reality but it's built for upto150 (it's slower for me cuz i've got a lot hooked up to it and the distance I use it at is greater). I gave it 4 stars only cuz the xbox was having probs with it at first. I feel this is a reliable product, I've yet to see that. I also covered it with a $10 extended warranty plan for 2 years so if God forbid something happened I'm still covered. I recommend this reliable thing cuz it works better than it's more expensive counterparts even within Netgear family. Good Luck making your decision. If you're looking for something else tho check out the recommendations.

Pleased with purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like many others, this was my first wireless router. Unlike others who reviewed this product, I have had a GREAT experience with it. It was extremely easy to set up and password protect. I have run both a pc and two different macs using the wireless and the speed is just as fast as connecting directly to my cable hookup. I get a full wireless signal anywhere I go in my home. I highly recommend!

Conventional Purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ideal for college students and dorms. Cheap router that gets the job done. The CD helps you set it up, but it got to a point where I had to call tec-support to get me through the rest of the set-up. We used my excisting internet connection to set it up. They helped me set up the name of the connection as well as the password... Strong singal through out the room...

I Like it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this online the same time as my dell laptop. I wanted wifi in my house for it so I could lounge around in my room on it when I could wire free. I had nev er had wifi or bought any router or anything never the less know how to install one. After calling the phone company trying to get it and being told Id have to have a credit check to do so I was fed up! I was just going to get it myself. So I ordered it.... I liked it for its color, price, and good reviews. When I recieved it I took it out the box, after realizing it didnt come with written instructions, I thoguht I was doomed. But I popped in the cdrom that came in the box and followed the instructons. Whatever you do use the software! Dont try to do it manually, I screwed up my internet connection, and stayed on the phone with internet agent for nearly an hour. If you follow the disc you cant lose. I really like it:good signal too! I reccomend it... hope this helps

Great entry-level wireless router.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this router as an inexpensive replacement for the 5 year old D-Link Wireless Gaming Router that finally bit the dust, right in the middle of watching a movie on Netflix. Since all of my computers and PS3 are wireless, and the DSL modem is too far away (and in an apartment) to run ethernet cable, I had to have something quick. For the price, you can't beat the ease of installation/configuration/use. Devices that use WPS (Wifi Protected Setup) will easily connect using just the access point's SSID (name) and security code. The latter of which is printed on the router. This makes securing your network easy for those not knowledgeable in wifi security. There are the standard advanced features like port forwarding, DMZ, and MAC filtering. Then it actually has more advanced features like QOS, which allows you to configure a device/computer/internet protocol to have top access to your available bandwidth (internet speed) while speeds are "throttled" for others. The only thing that I don't like about this product is the fact that you cannot replace/upgrade the antenna. The relatively short antenna that is permanently mounted provides moderate coverage when placed in a small apartment laundry closet with metal doors. I have to keep the doors open to allow the signal to pass through a corner and reach my equipment no more than 25 feet away (line-of-sight). While it's partially the installer's (my) fault, I would have liked to connect the larger, 6-8" antenna from the dead D-Link. Instead that antenna found a new home on my home theater PC, helping that device obtain a better connection with the router. Placement of the router in another room and in a more central area of the apartment would be better. Ease of install and configuration allow anyone to setup a wireless network in their home in less than an hour tops. If you're looking for a wireless router that does exactly what it's expected to do - share your internet connection wirelessly - and doesn't break the bank, this router is perfect.

Good, easy and affordable router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second Netgear router and they seem to have smoothed out some of their installation issues from the last time I did this. The instructions and box-opening process are quick, clear and easy to follow. They even give you some visual aids with the install-cd. Once installed (10-15 mins) you have the option of password assignment versus push-button network membership. I was setting this up for my Dad and I think having a push-button option is a nice convenience versus having to enter a 26 character hex password. Signal strength on the primary floor is excellent, even outside the house on the deck/patio to about 25 ft away. The other floors of the home seemed to suffer a little and could not get more than a couple of bars on my BBerry wifi meter. The signal is not super-strong, but consistent enough to stream Netflix to my Dad's Blu-ray player. At this price point, this unit represents an excellent value and should serve it's purpose for several years to come.

Easy and quick setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Netgear router was simple to setup. Clear and easy to follow instructions. Set it up for friend in a condo and I use it several times per week. I have noticed a few dropped connections but not sure why. Speed is good, though haven't wandered far away to test its range.

Not bad for a cheap router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was the cheapest router they had in the store, I got it because my 11 year old Liksys died and I needed a replacement fast. This is my first wireless router and set up and securing was really easy, and for a cheap model it has unbelievable signal strength. Now I can tear down my 200 meters of CAT-5 all over the house. I would recommend this to anyone just using it for home use.

Superior performance for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We've used this router for the past two years and it's proven to be a reliable product. Anyone with basic computer knowledge can set up this router, and the included documentation is straightforward and helpful. The build quality is excellent; this router has survived several 3-foot tumbles onto a tile floor with no damage either comestically or functionally. The range and strength of the connection is also excellent. We've had no problems establishing a strong connection from across the apartment. The only downside about this router is that we've had to ocassionally reset it when the connection freezes. To clarify, internet speed will stop even though the connection remains uninterrupted. Whenever this happens, unplugging and replugging the router solves the problem. We've had this issue with every router we've had, so this is likely not a fault specific to this model. Generally, this occurs every two to three days.

Decent router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Firstly installation was very simple. Pop the disc in and follow the instructions(apparently some of the people who were complaining about installation can't follow directions) all together it took 5-8 mins tops. Don't see why people are having a hard time installing a simple router that comes with a instruction manual, that or people bought bum routers. Overall this is a very good router. For me i need a cheap router even though my modem goes at 101 Mbps, this router gives you around 52 Mbps, but it is still decently fast. The only problem is that once in a while it will drop the connection, but all you have to do is plug it out then back in,thats all. If you want decent a router a a decent price then i suggest you buy this

Great Router!!!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When my linksys became a brick after 1 yr, I decided to give this netgear a shot. Best purchase I have made in a while. A good quality of a router is to forget its even there. I set it up about 3 months ago and havnt had to touch it since. When I had the linksys I was reseting it at least 3 times a week and sometime several times in a day. Not with this router, literally just set it and forget it. Set up was a breeze, signal strength is more than enough. Just a all around good device.

Good router for basic home use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our old wireless router broke, and this one has worked perfectly for our needs. We check e-mail, use Facebook, and watch videos on Netflix (including on our Wii), in a split-level, 3-bedroom house, and this router provides the bandwitdth and signal strength we need to do that with several computers or the Wii running at the same time. If you have higher demand or a larger home, I would consider getting something stronger, but a representative at Best Buy can help you decide what you need.

Better than anticipated
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have setup some horrible wireless routers in the past for friends and family, which has always caused me to be loyal to Linksys. My last router was not on a surge protector, and was damaged by a surge caused by a lightning storm, forcing me to need a new one. I could not find a Linksys/Cisco under $150, so I was forced to look at another brand. I have had bad experiences with D-Link in the past, so I went with this NetGear. I must say that I was pretty impressed by it. The setup and security changes were a breeze. I expected much less at this price point.

Great Priced Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Needed a cheap reliable router to share my hotel connection with my room mate, so I was not too keen to spend too much. Popped by the nearest Best Buy and it was the best priced item I could find. Had no issues with the set up and usage and it met my needs during my short stay here in the US.

This Netgear router is AMAZING - worth every penny
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this router Friday 1/15/10. It took me about 10 minutes to read the instructions and do the physical installations (connecting the Ethernet cable from my PC to the router, connecting my modem to the router, and powering all three on), I powered the PC back on, inserted the CD that came with the router. Hit the on screen SETUP button and THAT WAS IT. Everything was done. Only thing I had to do when asked was to create a name and password for my secure wireless. THAT WAS IT. I had two PCs hard wired using 2 of the 4 ethernet ports on the router, my MAC laptop and my iPod Touch connected wirelessly and on the internet. All that within a matter of 30 minutes. I was amazed. It's been running for over 4 days without a problem. Plug-N-Play!! I am so amazed because for 5 years I had a Linksys router and was only able to get the wireless to work for about 3-4 weeks when I first got it. That was after returning one and getting another one. The installation software for the Linksys is ridiculous and way too cumbersome. For the past 5 years, it wasn't imperative that I get on wirelessly because I have 2 desk tops hard wired in. This coming summer will be the first time in 5 years that I can use my laptop out back. Page loads are faster with this Netgear router also. I keep connecting my ipod touch to verify internet connection...it's like pinching my self because I can't believe it was that easy... I should have bought this router long time ago. This router is worth every penny.
