Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the improved design and usability of the SHIELD Remote with Voice compared to its predecessor. They appreciate the backlit buttons, comfortable grip, and sleek design. The voice control feature is also well-received, allowing users to conveniently control their TVs. However, some customers express concerns about the battery life and the dedicated Netflix button, which they feel is unnecessary.

One of the best purchases I’ve made in a while. Instead buying a new Shield, I got this and it made a world’s difference. Much better remote than the original. Makes my old 2017 Shield feel new

Unsure why the original remote failed, had to purchase a replacement and hope this one last. Removing cover to replace batteries is a PITA

The gaming remote for my shield died twice. I replaced the battery once and that too died. So I bought this updated remote and it works great!

Love this remote, such an upgrade over the bundled one. Only gripe was the large Netflix button you can’t disable.

Works perfectly with my 2017 Nvidia Shield TV. Way better than the original remote. My only wish is I wish it had a number pad so that I can enter passcodes easily.

Much better remote than the smaller one that came with the older model shield. It has better ergonomics and the designated volume buttons are a good change. One thing I wish they would do is incorporate a headphone jack into the remote like the controllers do.

Great remote! Definitely a great purchase. I have the original Nvidia Shield and it came with the older style of remote. I like this remote for many reasons. When compared to the old remote, this is better because it 1) Lights up when it's picked up, so you can see it better at night (brightness is adjustable( 2) Isn't paper thin, so it won't fall between the couch cushions and get lost easily 3) Has a built in speaker, if you download the Nvidia Shield app and pair it with your Shield, you can click a button that says 'Find my Remote' and it will make this remote start beeping for 30 seconds 4) Has physical buttons for everything, the previous Shield Remote model I had did many of the same things this remote did, but they required gestures, swipes, and special motions/ button combinations, It was very complicated and cumbersome to learn (good luck explaining to any guests how to use it). This is much simpler and works just better. Everything just has a button like a normal remote.

When you get tired of using your 'sider' shield remote--this is the one to replace it with. You can use the Button Remapper app to change the function of the Netflix button to any app you have on the Shield. Works great and much easier to find then the slim.

Purchased this remote to replace the factory small remote for a Shield 2017 model. The remote is better in every way. Better ergonomics, better battery technology using commonly available batteries, better button layout, and more direct access hard buttons. Just be aware that if you have multiple Shield TV streamers in the house, you'll have to make sure when pairing that it does not get paired to more than one Shield. Realized that when pairing, it paired with a second Shield in the house and was controlling both until we unpaired it from the 2nd unit.

Coming from using the Shield TV Remote from 2015, I was getting a little tired of having to constantly find it after the wife looses it in the couch every other day. That and the fact that it does not have an IR blaster to power on/off/control the sound system made it time to upgrade just for my family's own sanity. In comes the new Shield TV Remote from 2019. This one has a few super nice benefits even though I liked the old ones small sleek design and function. Firstly, this one lights up which is helpful when using it or looking for it at night. Second, this thing uses 2 AAA batteries so no longer are you needing to charge it every week or so. Thirdly, the shape and size of the device is very nice to hold and use, and keeps itself from falling into the abyss of the couch because it is wide enough to sort of wedge and stay on top. And if it does happen to get lost, you can locate it from the Shield TV itself (Though since mine is a older 2015 Pro, I need to use another remote to get to that option, which I have plenty of others via gamepads and such so this is not a con in any way). Lastly, the device has an IR Blaster so it only takes one remote to power up the Shield, TV, and Logitech surround sound and get to viewing. Overall it's a fantastic little upgrade to an already fantastic Android TV device.

While not perfect, this remote is MUCH better than the one that comes with the Shield. The Netflix button is way too easy to push and it takes some getting used to the shape. The battery cover is also annoying to take off, but it does have good battery life. Overall, a good replacement for the awful stock remote.
