A game changer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Remember the first time you played a video game? Now remember the first time you played a video game with "realistic" graphics, ten years ago? Now look at what we have today and see how far of a leap they have come. This review isn't about graphics, but it's about setting the bar for video games as an experience even higher. No, this thing isn't going to look as photo realistic as triple A games played on your monitor, but when you're in a game there's actual depth. Things are coming at you, but they're ACTUALLY coming at you now, rather than coming closer on your monitor. When you're racing in a car, especially with a wheel and pedal setup, or flying in a ship in space with a joystick, YOU ARE THERE. It is entirely immersive. Ok, let's get the "things to know" out of the way. 1. You need a decent computer to run this. 2. No, the field of vision doesn't fill everything you can see. 3. Yes, there are god rays. (White streaks of light shooting "toward" you, especially evident with white text on black backgrounds.) 4. The graphics aren't as amazing as plenty of AAA games available now, and aren't as high resolution. 5. You need some room, about 10ft x 10ft to play a lot of games, but some are ok just sitting down. 6. The headset does get a bit warm so you're toasty after a long play session. 7. The screen door effect is kinda sorta noticeable, depending on how immersed you are in gameplay. 8. Motion sickness. YMMV on this one. Some people can take a lot of intensity and some can't. 9. It is an incredible game changer. I don't regret my purchase at all. I have had zero issues with the headset. The tracking controllers work phenomenally. Honestly I was real iffy on the purchase because it's not entirely a small chunk of money, but within 30 minutes of putting it on I knew it was a revolution in gaming. I've shared the VR experiences I own with as many people as I can, and they're equally as impressed. I cannot wait for more content to come out. Yes there are a lot of "experiences" which are short, but there are plenty of great real games as well. I could go on for a long, long time about how awesome this thing is, but no matter what I tell you, no matter what you read here, you won't understand until you try it. So find a demo at a Best Buy store if they have one available and give it a shot. Let me know if you can get through the experience without at least thinking "wow!"

Best 1st gen VR experience
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great product overall. Comfortable and very intuitive. The bundled controllers are awesome and are a must if you want to truly experience VR. What you must understand about VR is that this is 1st Generation. The graphics won't be great and there is definitely a screen door effect. But the immersion factor is incredible. It's a start of hopefully a very good future for VR and the Oculus is leading the pack when it comes to quality and price point.

Great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was set on getting the HTC Vive, but ended up with the Rift because It went on sale and was $150 cheaper at the time. I am completely satisfied with the Rift. The screen door effect is only noticeable when you are looking for it. The tracking is great, though it could use a third sensor in the back for when you get turned around. I love the controllers. The included headphones are not amazing, but they are great and included unlike the Vive audio strap which adds $100. I considered buying a second one when I got this home and set up. Totally worth it. Great product. Glad that I made the purchase.

VR Is amazing
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The rift is awesome! I find myself always wanting to play it. I did a decent amount of research before purchasing a VR system and decided to go with the rift for its built in headphones, less screen door effect, better controllers, and not needing as big of a space. I use a 3 sensor setup currently and have been having a blast with roomscale. I had some troubles in the beginning due to my motherboard only having one usb controller hub so I did have to purchase another one for the three sensors with two sensors it was fine for me with just my motherboard usbs. Other than that hiccup I have had nothing but good times and a great experience with the rift.

Great product!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's mind blowing the Emerson is really there. You feel like you are really in the game the touch controllers are very ergonomic and the screen door effect is minimal. The only issue that I have with it is software but Maybe they will fix that.

New VR Experience
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Oculus is my first step to PC VR experience. I use it for my flight simulator. The experience is great. It was very easy to setup. However it is not a perfect product. The resolution is not quite there yet and there is a screen door look to it. Otherwise very good start.

Great VR Experiences
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall the Oculus Rift is great for VR, with room scale and the ability to play both Oculus exclusives and most steam vr games you get quite a few games. There is a screen door effect but not too bad. Robo Recall comes with it and it’s one of the best vr games you can play, the other being Superhot VR imo.

Novelty wears off
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve regretted this purchase since about 2 weeks after buying it. It was more of a novelty item, fun to use a few times, but not all the time. Now it just collects dust for the most part. The biggest issue was the graphics, screen door effect is huge and nothing looks crisp, tech just isn’t there yet for these.

Annoyances and limitations ... but WORTH it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've seen people write less than stellar reviews of the Rift but I am looking at it based on the current state of VR, not some imagined version of what I wish VR were right now. Playing the Rift is incredible. I'm over 50 and have played games all my life, but had kind of found myself less interested in gaming the past few years, and the Rift has reignited my excitement for gaming. I'm going to start out with the negatives. VR can be frustrating as is it right now for a number of reasons: 1. You need a pretty powerful rig to get the most out of it - Although you can get away with a less powerful CPU and GPU, Rift really shines if you have a newer, more powerful processor and graphics card. I'm using a thin and light laptop with a 7th gen i7 and 1070 GTX with 8GB of video memory. You have to have a dedicated video card / GPU, and a fairly recent and powerful one at that. 2. You need a lot of available ports to get the most out of it - I have added a 3rd tracking sensor so I can do room scale so I am using 3 USB 3.1 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port and an HDMI port. I have 2 sensors on 2 of the USB 3 ports, 1 on a USB 2 port, and then the other USB 3 and HDMI are for the headset itself. I also have a USB C / Thunderbolt port on my laptop, so I put an extension on that that gives me another HDMI and some additional USB ports that I use for my wireless mouse and a laptop cooler and I use the additional HDMI to output the screen to my 4K TV so when people are playing, others can see what's going on. Pretty sweet. 3. It was a pain to setup the first time. My laptop was brand new and I had already updated my graphics drivers and all other device drivers and updated Win 10 too before trying to setup the Rift, but it still was troublesome. My computer wouldn't do anything when I plugged in the Oculus sensors. Eventually, thanks to Google I figured out that the drivers for the sensors were not loaded. I eventually found a program called OculusDrivers.exe in one of the folders and ran that and BOOM, everything worked. But it shouldn't have been necessary to hunt down that file buried in a directory in the Oculus folder. 4. Screen door effect - A limitation of current tech - There is a noticeable black grid over everything. You are actually seeing the spaces between the pixels due to the screens being so close to your face and the lenses. I notice it every time I use it, but only for a few minutes...after that I am enjoying myself so much I don't care. 5. Cables - The cables can be annoying. Especially if you are playing something that requires you to turn around often and/or walk around. Now, with all these negatives listed, why am I saying it's 5 stars? Because none of that stuff matters once you are experiencing vr with motion controllers. The Oculus touch controllers are really great. Much better than the motion controllers included with the HTC Vive or the Playstation VR. I can't wait for all the improvements in the future generations of VR, but even with the current limitations, VR is incredible. It's hard to explain to someone who hasn't tried it how big of a difference it is. If you have tried Google Cardboard, or Daydream, or Gear VR, you still don't understand it. Tracked motion controllers and being able to move around in an environment is just amazing. GET ONE!
