This game is honestly one of my top 3. You don't have to play the other persona games to enjoy and play this one. Which one of the personas game series are totally independent story wise. There are some differences between the Persona 5 Royal and the "normal" Persona 5. For those who never played Persona 5, you should buy this game, it has more content and better battle and combat system. For those who already played Persona 5, I would recommend if you really REALLY loved the series. Because this game is as long as the normal Persona 5 and with more content, so only if you truly love this game. I have played Persona 5 game, and I bought this because I just love the series so much and honestly I prefer this version over the original. Also for those who don't know what this game is about, it's a long game, but it's a amazing journey. The game is a mixture of role-playing and dungeon crawling elements alongside social simulation scenarios. It's a solo game, you are there for the story and game play. The game looks silly but has a lot of serious aspects and dramas. I hope you give this game a try and enjoy

Being someone who loved Persona 5 in every way, I only knew that this updated version would pull me in again for another 100+ hour romp. Every update they made to the gamplay streamlines the process, making this the best way to play the game. Highly recommended to anyone who loves JRPGs

    Persona 5 Royal is awesome!!!!

Persona 5 was my first turn based RPG, and I immediately fell in love with the game. After playing 140-150 hours of the original Persona 5, I was so thrilled to hear about Persona 5 Royal so I knew this was gonna be a game worth preordering. Sure enough, it was totally worth it. Although the game is mostly similar to the original persona 5, there is A LOT of new content that just brings a breath of fresh air to the story. Some of this new content includes new cutscenes, new battle gameplay, new characters, a new location to visit, and an extension to the original storyline(which is an about an extra month that wasn't put into Persona 5) The graphics are much more crisp and clear since this is exclusively for ps4, compared to the original Persona 5 which was made for both ps3 and ps4. The battle sequences are also much more smooth than Persona 5. Also, Persona 5 Royal has a much better framerate as well. If you're looking for a new game to play especially during quarantine, this a great way to pass the time. This game is also a great way to introduce yourself to turn based RPG's. *Just a little side note, the steel book is absolutely stunning*

The original Persona 5 is already one of the best JRPGs available to play. Persona 5 Royal adds a bunch of new content and improves a lot in the way of quality of life. With reloading guns in palaces after each fight, new technical combinations, fusion alarms, mementos music improvements, increased time to manage your confidants, and more this re-release is the best way to play the game. Persona 5 Royal takes the best from the original game and only adds to it to make an already great product ever greater. I have played it for about 145 hours and just hit the entirely new palace, that might give you an idea of how much content this game has!

Persona 5 was already a stellar game from 2017, but Persona 5 Royal elevates it to be one of, if not, the best game I've ever played. The original game had a fantastic story, the best gameplay in the series to date, and an unforgettable soundtrack. All culminating into a huge 100+ hour experience. Persona 5 Royal takes that same experience, and adds loads of new content, including new characters and social links, new persona's, a new third semester with a new palace and new area in mementos, and a whole lot more that makes Persona 5 Royal the definitive Persona 5 experience.

I love this game. Persona 5 Royal is truly the best way to play the game. Yes, it’s more expensive than the base game, but trust me when I say it’s worth it if you haven’t played the base P5. If you have, this is still a must buy if you loved P5. There’s more content, an extremely cool “extras” area where you can look through concept art, live concert videos, look back on past cutscenes, and much more related to both the base game and the new game. This is all the extra toppings on the more complete story. There are some reworks, in terms of gameplay and design. They can vary from a small color change to a complete overhaul and quality of life improvements. You may ask “if I played the first game why would I want to buy essentially the same game for a few changes, why didn’t they just do a DLC?” Trust me, there was a lot of work done and things that wouldn’t be able to be done as a DLC. Overall a 10/10 game with new stuff for new players and fans alike. This is now the best way to play the game.

The Persona series and Shin Megami Tensei games are known for being long, mature themed jrpgs, and this is no different. A rerelease of Persona 5 with brand new content, it promises 100+ hours of gameplay. It follows a group of high schoolers in Tokyo tackling growing up, rebellion and mature themes with a supernatural twist. Gameplay mixes dungeon dives and turnbased battle, with a life sim of living in Tokyo. School, work and developing relationships amidst the unwinding story. Only 55 hours in currently but loving every minute. Highly recommend!

If you've never played Persona 5, it's an amazing role-playing game with great characters and story. The combat is probably the funnest turn-based combat I've experienced. In Persona you also gain new abilities by talking to people and strengthening your relationship with them. If you don't like going through a ton of dialogue, which is mostly voiced, but not always, this may not be the game fro you. If you've already played Persona 5, Royal improves on it in many ways, which you've probably heard about by now. You get more options for how to use your time at night, which is very nice, and there are great new characters as well. And Mementos is more fun than it used to be. Persona 5 Royal is the definitive version of what was already one of my favorite games.

I put in around 130 hours in P5 before starting NG+ and ended up around 150 hours before stopping playing it for a while. When Royal came out, I figured I was going to buy it regardless, even if the changes were minor. At the time of this review, I'm around 15 hours in and have just cleared the first palace. Dear reader, they are not. The quality of life changes implemented in Royal are perfect. There are enough tweaks to the game to make it feel fresh again, adding new challenges, personas, items, etc. A single button press in palaces to refresh the entire teams HP! The map and fast travel now shows what locations and activities will increase what stats! You can study in the cafe in the evenings! Once you've done everything you're able to for the day, you don't have to make your way back to Leblanc, up the stairs, and to your bed to pass the day, it'll do it for you now. Totally worth buying over and if you haven't played the base Persona 5 game, maybe on the fence, this is absolutely worth getting! 5/5 masks.

The original P5 was already great and I more than enjoyed the story it delivered. With this new iteration of the story it goes and ads a few new mechanics that freshen up gameplay and make it feel brand new. It also goes ahead and ads way more stuff to do on free days when you're not fighting in a palace or mementos. This new side stuff even rewards you and vuffs you up when you jump back into battle. Havent finished it but about half way and the new story components are also a great adition.

The Persona series does it again! This expansion of the base Persona 5 game adds a new playable semester at the end, while adding new cut scenes, characters and gameplay balances. If you love life simulators, and love old school dungeon crawling RPGs, than this will be one to add to your list. The story, music, combat are all amazing. I sank about 230 hours into this game and do not regret it. I'm only sad that another game like this won't be out for a while.

Having played and enjoyed Persona 5, this is an excellent update to an already wonderful game. I cannot comment on all the specific changes (though they are well-outlined elsewhere), but everything an average (new or experienced) player will experience meets the expectations set by the original version. The presentation of this game is one of the best all time. That alone deserves some time to explore it all. Most significant from a gameplay standpoint is the ability to experience more of the game during the first playthrough. The original version was a bit more restrictive, but this allows easier access to more of the "daily life" portions of the game. Combat gameplay is improved by more differentiation and greater depth. Both "daily life" and combat elements of the game combine in an organic way to make decisions and consequences meaningful and more enjoyable. The additional story (including the new semester) don't feel unnecessary, but have realistic connections to the original story. It adds an additional layer of depth worth exploring. Easily the definitive version of an all-time game!

If you're looking for a traditional turn based JRPG, look no more. Persona 5 Royal is THEE experience. As a newcomer to the series, I am just overjoyed with how much stuff there is to do in this game. Fantastic story, great personable characters, over a hundred hours of JRPG goodness.

Persona 5 Royal takes the base game of Persona 5 and blows it out of the water. Royal touches up on Persona 5’s weak-points, adding boss phases, music, confidants, events, and overall pacing fixes and that’s on top of the 40+ hours of brand new content. If you haven’t picked up persona 5 yet, Royal is the way to go, I couldn’t imagine playing the base game after completing Royal. Or even if you just want to revisit the 2017 title, Royal is more than welcoming to steal your heart once again.

Long time fan of the Persona series and if you wanted to get into the series, this is no better place to start. There's a lot of quality of life changes in making sure that the game is challenging but also approachable for any fan new or old. The music is great and the characters I had issues writing-wise in the original version get much better through this new update! Word to the wise, this game does demand a lot of hours from you. 80minimum with 100 being the average to beat. But to me, that's an amazing value for the amount of gameplay you'll get out of it.

My friends introduced me to Persona a few months before Joker was introduced into Smash Bros. and I was interested due to the characters and combination of dungeon crawling and life simulation. This was my first full-fledged 100+ hour RPG, being that I mostly played shorter ones such as Mario and Luigi or Pokemon before this one. The game did not disappoint. I spent about 170 hours on my first play-through and prioritized doing as many social links (confidants) as I can. Those social links gave me a deeper understanding of the other characters in the game while also helping me in dungeons and with fusing Personas. It also made it a challenge to do everything in the game since I also had to get the appropriate social stats up or complete certain other side quests to advance in some of them. In addition, the dungeon crawling felt satisfying. Being able to sneak attack an enemy or negotiate with an enemy for items or to take their mask (to summon them as a Persona) added to this satisfaction. The story itself, if sometimes predictable, is enjoyable, covering dark themes at times while also having fun with the dialogue and characters throughout, and ends off in the best way it could have if you clear the third semester. I played the game on a PS4 Slim. Even though the game looked good in general, I couldn’t help but notice some pixelation in some of the shadows on the over world sometimes. Not a big issue, though. I also would have liked to see a 60 FPS mode, but for this kind of game, that’s a bonus. I also felt as if the fifth dungeon was rushed and would have liked to have a little bit more time at the end of the game to complete social links since there is barely any time to do them during the third semester. There’s not too much else I can say through this kind of review panel, though, so I’ll leave it at this: If you are a fan of JRPGs and have a PS4 (or PS5 if this game becomes backward compatible), Persona 5 Royal is a must buy.

This version of the game has everything that the original offered and MORE! Each time there is a new feature I explore it to the fullest and I love finding the new secrets. If you're wondering if it's worth it to buy this or not when you own the original, I highly recommend getting it! While a lot of the story is the same, there are way more than enough differences that the entire experience is changed.

This is my first Persona game and I must admit I am addicted. I have put in around 40 hours so far and I have enjoyed every minute. My son has also become engaged in the story and it has been a tremendous bonding experience. Thank you to Best Buy for the fast shipping as the nearest stores that sell video game are around an hour away for me. I would definitely recommend this game for anyone who suddenly has found hisself or herself with a lot of extra time. Hopefully, life will go back to normal soon.
