I have been waiting for this game since I purchased Persona 4 Golden on the Vita. I am not a huge fan of Sony. I bought my PS4 years ago for two reasons. Bloodborne and Persona 5. And now P5 is finally here in NA. It was well worth the wait. It's one of the best games that I have played. I'm about 35 hours into the game right now and I'm having a hard time putting it down. I highly recommend picking this game up if you're a fan of the previous games or if you enjoy JRPGs.

I am new to the Shin Megami Tensei/Persona franchise, but a longtime fan of JRPG's.
This game has blown me away. I am 90 hours in and still not finished with the main story, so if you are into getting the most time out of your money spent, this is a game for you. Due to the way the game progresses time and the story (mostly via deadlines), the game never feels like a grind and you are instead trying to squeeze in as much character progression as possible before you are forced to confront the main objectives. Or, you could go ahead and tackle the main story objective first and work on character progression in the time between major plot points. In short, the game is very flexible, and with a multitude of characters and side activities, there is always something to do.
Some final quick thoughts to wrap up the review:
The artwork, music, and smoothness of the interface makes the game feel very stylish and polished. As far as I am aware, there are no story elements gated by DLC. You are getting a complete, finished game.
TL;DR Persona 5 is a masterpiece and a must-play for any JRPG fan.

Combine one of the best soundtracks of any game, fantastic style that makes you enjoy the normally plain menus, refined gameplay, and interesting party members with interesting backstories and motivations and what do you get? A fantastic experience masquerading as a video game.

Great Game that Takes its Time

First of all the Steel Book looks great!
(Note: I am halfway through the game 50 hours)
The game itself is wonderful.
Note: The game is very text heavy (story and character based), combat is turn based, and the game is very long (~100 hours). It also gets better as you go on.
The graphics make you feel like you are walking through an anime or manga. There are loading screens, but they are cleverly animated and stylized (most of the time). You can tell a lot of love and fun went into designing the games. Even some of the shop screen are cool. The game is very stylish. The menus may at first be a little overwhelming but you will get used to them.
The game is long, and it takes advantage of that fact. The pacing in the beginning can feel a little off, but as you get further in (2nd dungeon and on) the game gives you more freedom. The game feels just good as you begin, but as you advance it becomes great and then amazing. (and addicting). Even though the game is long, it usually doesn't feel lone, because the in game time is always moving forward.
The gameplay is a combination of a life/social simulator and turn based dungeon crawling. The turn based combat can be seen as similar to Pokémon, because it is mainly elemental based. You fight 'demon' shadows called personas which you also catch and use. The combat gets more interesting as you go on and stronger persona's are unlocked. The design of the personas are all very interesting and different and usually match the dungeon. The social sim part of it is based on the confidant system, where you have to choose who you spend your limited time with. Certain people in the city can become your confidants and as you spend time with them, you unlock abilities that can be used in the dungeons. Most of them have really interesting stories that you learn as you get closer to them. The feature gets more complicated because the main character needs to have certain social stats (knowledge, charm, etc) in order to spend time with certain people. in the end, you have to balance advancing both with your limited time. This part of the game feels very limited in the beginning of the game, because you are sometimes restricted in your time by the game for plot reasons, but as you go on you are given more freedom and can plan your days.
The story is interesting, but can sometimes become a little weak with the individual villain stories (the third dungeon). The villains are usually just blatantly bad people, which is actually kind of refreshing. The overarching story is also very interesting. Some of the characters seem shallow, but usually when you advance their confidant rank you learn more about them and they become more interesting. Unless the rest of the game takes a massive dip in quality, I am comfortable in saying that the story is good.
If you like anime, Japanese role playing games, Pokémon: I would definitely recommend this game.
If you are looking to try out a different genre or want something different from the usual games, then I would also recommend this.
I am really enjoying this game, and I am looking forward to finishing it and playing it again! :)

Persona 5 is the culmination of everything that was great about Persona by using the amazing foundation it was built upon as well as adding and innovating in new ways. The story, characters, and gameplay is all perfect. I can't recommend this game enough.

I've been anticipating this game since it was announced and expected to release years ago but even now it still exceeds my expectations.
Game is fantastic: character development is top-notch, plenty of side activities to do, soundtrack is amazing and the battle and overall UX is so fluid I catch myself just playing opening menus for the eye-candy.
As for the story, it's a wonderful tale and quite a ride and I recommend anyone interested in this game to do a blind plunge into it.

The Persona series is one of my favorites of all time. And this could well be the best game in the series so far. At this point it hasn't quite matched Persona 4 Golden, but it's pretty darn close. And I'm less than a third of the way through. It could very well surpass 4. Amazing and deep gameplay, fantastic art style, great story. Highly recommended.

A Great JRPG

The last couple of years It's been very difficult to find a JRPG I can sink my teeth into. If you're going to put 100+ hours into a game, you want it to be good. Persona 5 is definitely worth the time I put into it.
Gameplay is great, When other games are trying to move into open world and make them more action oriented, Persona instead improves on the the traditional turn base JRPG. The main dungeons are no longer randomly generated like the previous games, except for one called Momentos where you do most of your side quest. You also have to jungle your Social Life with being a Phantom Thief. It's like playing a SpiderMan game where you get to play as Peter Parker just trying to be a normal kid during the day.
The story is more mature. It deals with a lot of sensitive subjects and societal problems you don't normally see in In AAA games.
Graphics are superb, thanks to art direction and animation, this game will look good even after all the realistic games start looking outdated. I forget the game is even on PS3!
This is a great jumping on point if you've never played Persona. You don't need to play the previous games. It's smilar to Final Fantasy in that the stories arent connected to each other. It's set in the same universe so you'll miss out on hidden shoutouts to the previous cast.

Even Better Than Persona 4

If you've played Persona 4, this is just really an expanded and enhanced version of that title in terms of gameplay and world design. It's also a new, goofy story that includes you entering the hearts of others and stealing their desires. Also, you're back to bargaining with demons for cash, items, or their help (them as one of your Personas). It's a must buy if any RPG ever was for you.
If you haven't played a Persona game, here's the basic loop. You develop friendships with people in the real world and those friendships in turn help you with the dungeoning and RPG portion of the title. As you get further into the game and pass more dungeons, you get more opportunities to develop further friendships. The game is based on an economy of time wherein you choose to do on any given morning, afternoon, or evening. And some things have to be done by certain dates in order to continue through the story. It's bizarre and crazy long (100+ hours) and a lot of fun.

Persona 5 is the ultimate upgrade for all Persona fans like myself. The story line is death defying and extremely immersive. The graphics and voice overs are 1st class. The music is borrowed from other persona games but it is also enhanced. I would definately recommend this game especially to all Persona fans like myself. Sincerely Andrew

Once again they have outdone themselves with this game. THis is yet another Persona game that is oozing style and fun. Every part of this is just top notch. The story, the sound track, the stylistic graphics, the cut scenes, and "most" of the voice work outside of a few odd pronunciations I highly recommend this.

What can I say. About 60 hours into the game and it's been an epic ride. You play the role of a high school student who has a juvie record and a bad rep that follows it. Your main tasks consist of working on relationships with your classmates and those outside school and working as a member of a gang of some sorts to complete this game's equivalent of dungeons. The turn-based combat system is very much fun and alive and well. The voice acting is also nicely done. And the story is well-written.
Do I recommend this? Yes. I've convinced two of my coworkers to check out the game this past week alone and both have been excited about it.

Well Worth the Long Wait

I have been a huge Persona fan since Persona 2. This game was the reason I purchased a PS4 this generation. The constant delays over the past couple of years was really hard and the wait was more than worth it after actually playing the game. The content and story in this game is amazing and takes a long time to complete the game. So far I have put over 100+ hours into the game and I am still on my first play through. I highly recommend this game if you are into JRPG's or wanting something different than most of the games produced today (online first-person shooters).
The only drawback I have with this game is with the main characters. They are a little one-directional and not as good compared to Persona 3 or Persona 4. Besides that, I love the game and highly recommend it.

Persona 5 is an absolute joy to play. The storyline, while twisted in some aspects, does well to convey the emotions of the characters and weaves an intricate story based around the lives of a high school student and his friends. The combat system while seemingly simple is surprisingly deep in the way your characters must find your enemies weaknesses to exploit them. The Pokemon-esque feel of capturing your opponents to gain their power is also fun, and I enjoyed finding new Personas to gain more abilities and power. I also really enjoyed the soundtrack, something I haven't enjoyed in most games since the days of Chronotrigger. I definitely recommend this game as a jumping on point for people new to the Persona series, though long time series fans will enjoy it too.
