The thing I appreciate the most from Prey is that it is something different, which is saying a lot from a genre that seems to just pump out sequel after sequel. Prey differs vastly from other FPS experiences, focusing less on the combat (which does have its drawbacks) and focusing more on the atmosphere and story. This game reminds me of a crossbreed between Half-Life and Bioshock, but never feels like it is a carbon copy of either. Give the demo a whirl if you want a taste of what to expect, but never assume the experience stays the same, which is what makes Prey so magnificent. Only drawback is the combat isn’t as thrilling as the rest of the game.

Superb RPG Similar To Bioshock, Dead Space, etc.

Prey (like Bioshock and Dead Space) is a spiritual successor to the famous and influential System Shock 2. Your character finds himself on a mysterious space station where things have gone terribly wrong. As you work to escape/stop the alien threat you gradually explore the station, learning more about the inhabitants and the station through clues in the environment, logs people left behind, etc. If you've played Bioshock or Dead Space you've played this game before, but here is what makes Prey stand out; 1. Unique Aliens - Rather than being standard monsters the Typhon are little creatures that can mimic their surroundings (and absorb information from their victims). This is genuinely scary as a random chair or box could be an enemy in disguise. 2. Good Story - Interesting stories throughout the station, interesting premise (mimic abilities of aliens is harnessed by corporation to improve humanity, but of course something goes wrong). The alien threat ends up being an original take on Fermi's Paradox. I also thought the ending was original. Without spoiling anything, this game really embraces the idea of choices defining a character (role playing) rather than necessarily changing the outcome of the story's events. 3. Graphics/Soundtrack - Gorgeous, soundtrack is spooky 4. Gameplay - The combat isn't the best but it gets the job done. I like that this game's idea of crafting is breaking objects down and using a 3D printer to make whatever you want. If you like RPGs I think you will like this game. If you liked Bioshock or Dead Space you will definitely not be disappointed.

PREY is like a fine scotch

PREY is a game that needs to be slowly sipped and savored. If you are looking for an action shooter, you will be highly disappointed. At it's core it is an exploration game that is incredibly immersive and atmospheric. The game can be as short or as long as you want it to be. I am on my first play through and am 45 hours in. With that said, I have gone through each room, area, etc. with a fine tooth comb. There are many things to find or not. That is your personal choice. I plan on finding everything (including all 250+ crew members). My estimation for completion will definitely be over 100 hours. If you liked BIOSHOCK, you will like PREY. Be forewarned that this game is an ode to the old school gamer who enjoys Dead Space, System Shock and Half Life. It is also extremely challenging and punishing out of the gates. Do not give up and have patience and you will find that the game is extremely rewarding and well put together. The setting (maps & levels) are very unique in the sense that it is an open world with free forming characteristics. The game can be played with many different styles and strategies. How you upgrade your characters and items will largely depend on the style in which you like to play. Make no mistake. This game is about strengths and weaknesses. Your job is to figure out where you stand. Once again, if you are looking for a shooter in the vein of DOOM, WOLFENSTEIN, COD or DESTINY --- THIS IS NOT THE CUP OF TEA THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. However, if you like to approach things intellectually, strategically with action to drive the game --- THEN THIS IS FOR YOU. There are puzzles, an intriguing story and sense of accomplishment from making your way through that space station in an environment that has left you for dead. No hand holding and no linear way to complete the game. Everyone will have an experience that is different or at the least, varied. So far, I am thoroughly enjoying myself on TALOS I and find this to be one of the best games of the year.

I loved dead space and bioshock games, and this game has elements from both of these games. Great atmosphere, tense situations with good sci-fi story and good enough gameplay. I usually don't like stealth games but liked the stealth gameplay in this game. Getting a free steelbook was cherry on the cake.

The team who developed Dishonored made this. It's a wonderful romp in 1st person through a retro-future space station. You can make choices along the way which affect certain outcomes. You find unique weapons, one being a very fun glue gun (give it a chance) that can be used in interesting ways. The enemies are unique in that they are mimics, which are creatures that disguise themselves as ordinary objects, which as you can imagine, makes for some jump scares. There are early plot twists that really ramp up the story. It's a great ride.

Level design is top notch. The space station is very detailed and super fun to explore. Gameplay is also top notch. You can level up you character to fit your playstyle. I have played this game multiple times using different character builds. I love that you can have fun playing it like a shooter on one playthru, then you can change it up and do a stealth or melee or supernatural powers and many more different types of gameplay play thrus. Also, you can save anywhere at anytime and you get ten or more save slots to mess around with. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys exploration type gameplay and likes to experiment with different builds. Prey provides you with the playground to do that. The cons to the game are the pacing. In the beginning you will be able to leisurely explore, but as you advance the storyline you will start to be overwhelmed by the enemies, until by the end of the game you are put under a time deadline and must rush through the last mission. This con is slightly annoying if you like to go slow/expore like I do. There is however one big con in this game = loading times. They are very very long. This isn't a problem in the first half of the game as you are exploring big areas and there aren't as many loading screens. But the end of the game requires you to run from area to area and that means you run through a whole series of super long loading screens. This may be a deal breaker for some people. I love this game and I find the ending loading screen rush to be highly annoying. But since the rest of the game is awesome, I forgive it for its super long loading screen.

This game is a lot of fun. There are many quests and side quests to explore. The load times for some scenes took longer than usual, but that isn't too noticeable. The game is pretty long and there is plenty to explore to get your money's worth!

prey is a scary horror shooter - not zombie like but sci-fi alien like - its half life reminescent but the game plays like a bioshock 1 game. Very hard in the beginning but power creep kicks in as you gain (no spoilers) new skills

Overall this is a pretty fantastic game. If you liked any of the Bioshock games, this game will feel familiar. The FPS combat is smooth, and the crafting/power upgrade aspects of the game allow you to play however you want. The overall story is linear, but there are some choices you can make to change how you get to the end. The story seems simple on the surface, but to really get into it you need to explore the environment and do a lot of in-game reading and listening to recorded messages, which may not appeal to everyone. It is not necessary for the enjoyment of Prey, however. The game can seem tough early on in normal mode, but can quickly become quite easy as you gather resources and gain powers. Some people may not like this, but you can always increase the difficulty if you want a challenge. It's great for those who want to feel powerful and unstoppable, though. Some issues I had with the PS4 version of Prey were some pretty major frame rate issues that occurred after a specific point in the story, about halfway through. I had to restart the game several times and experienced a couple crashes before I could finally make it to an exit from the area. After I loaded in a new location frame rate when back to normal. Thankfully it did, because if it had stayed like that the game would have been unplayable. I believe this issue has since been patched by the developer. A second issue I've had is that the loading screens are quite long on PS4. This wouldn't be too much of an issue except for the fact that the game constantly has you going back and forth between sections of the space station you are on. The loading screens become very tedious after a while. Despite a few flaws, the overall game is very good and I hope to see a sequel or some DLC soon. It's a great new universe to explore and I hope there will be more to dive in to in the future.

This game is great but has its flaws. I adored the story and the castlevania style exploration. The combat is shoddy, and while the game is supposed to be challenging, sometimes the scarcity of resources is game breaking, especially if you're trying to explore or just see the story. Easy mode doesn't alleviate this. I have friends who stopped playing because of this, but I did push through and seriously can't wait for the extra content they're currently teasing!

The story is interesting and keeps you engaged well enough, but it's the environment and gameplay that shines. From choosing how you'd like to progress and upgrade your character to how you'd like to approach situations. Would you like to play it safe and sneak past everything, take everything head on, or make yourself more alien than human and fit in. Or become anything in the environment through mimic abilities. The combat isn't as polished or quick as a FPS shooter, but this fits since your not a marine, or spec-ops trained fighter, your a random person who is in the wrong place at the wrong time. You won't survive purely on shooting through every enemy, nor will you beat this game without thinking carefully on how you'll approach some of the trickier situations.

The reveals during the first 30 minutes let you know you are in for one interesting ride. The graphics are smooth if not necessarily next gen. The enemies are extremely agile if not particularly imaginative. With that said, the story as it is revealed is just really slick. There are some control issues that should be addressed in an upcoming patch. They are not game breakers but can be a tad annoying.

I'm writing this review after the release of the DLC Mooncrash and the Prey VR DLC although I bought the game Day 1. You won't survive purely on shooting through every enemy, nor will you beat this game without thinking carefully on how you'll approach some of the trickier situations. Although you can beat the game in 15 hours or less (putting aside the now fully patched game glitch that allowed you to beat the game in 5 minutes) Ive spent 60 + hours just exploring the entire space station, recycling and doing quests. Now that the game is $9.99 in some places you'll get a lot for you're dollar even if you pay $19.99. The DLC Mooncrash is great as well.

Reminiscent of BioShock in the best possible ways, Prey takes the players through a visually stunning space civilization to try and stop an alien enemy from taking over the planet. With plenty to do and explore and a plot that twists and turns all throughout, the game will have players expanding their powers through the use of skill trees and an array of weapons and tools at their disposal. The only issues are that loading times can be very long and the ending felt rushed. Worth buying nevertheless just for the journey.

The graphics on this game are good. The gameplay is sharp and engaging. The only part I can see a slight issue with the game is that it seems a bit lifeless, though that may be intended because of the story. Overall the entertainment calue is very high for this game as it is not just a shoot everything game. This game allows you to use thought when proceeding in rooms and such as there are many things that can happen. I got this game on salle and for the price it was great.

I like the original Prey that came out on the 360 a while back, but this game is more of a re-boot. It is a very good looking space shooter with a good story, Another draw for me was the PSVR missions that you can buy separately. Overall a great game with good atmosphere that will be enjoyed by fans of sci-fi.
