I make an appointment and go there to have it installed...go in front doors and was sent 2 different places only to be told to take my car around to the side of the building...I go to side of building for installation and the door is locked...no one is in garage and there is no buzzer or alarm to push...I pounded on the door with my cane and still no answer...stood there for a few looking thru the windows and nobody was in site...I went to car and called best buy only to get disconnected after holding for a few minutes...I call back again and I have 2 people on the phone ahead of me so I had to hold a few more minutes...finally get thru to a human and she sends geek squad tech back...he arrives in a few minutes...he was very friendly and my problem wasn't really with him...It was what I had to go thru to get this remote start installed....Why was I not told in the first place where to go on the phone when I made the appointment? Why is there not a door buzzer on the side door of the geek squad garage? Why is the door even locked in the first place during business hours? Heck as far as that goes why isn't there a big sign out front directing you to the geek squad garage? Why didn't the geek squad just offer to go out and get my car and take it around to the garage? I had actually intended to go in and shop for a washer while I was waiting.....Instead I got frustrated and left without ever shopping! I use a cane and have health issues that make it a chore to even get out of the bed at times, let alone go thru all of this!....This setup is just ridiculous and some changes need to be made in this area...So it all boils down to I liked the employees service I just didn't like the set up of Best Buy on this purchase.....I was very frustrated and it will make me seriously think twice about purchasing anything like this from Best Buy again....It's time for a change and there is a need for the easy button on this one! This is referring to the Viper remote start installed on the jeep...

I bought the Viper remote start online, as well as installation that cost extra. After the install, I hadn't even drove away yet. I noticed my instrument lights were not working. Te installer drove it back in and began checking everything over. After another 45 minutes, he said he didn't know what the problem was. He told me to take it to a dealership to have it checked! He said the install was good, since the remote starter worked! (Even though the lights, as well as instruments didnt.) I called and spoke with store manager. He told me to take it to dealership, and IF the problem was due to the install, I could request reimbursement. I am not finished with this. The dealership said they cut a power wire, and that this remote wouldn't work like the installer tried to do. We'll see what happens, but I want reimbursed for dealership charges, and refunded for my money paid to BestBuy, AFTER the unit is fully remoced!!! I am lovid...

The website says you are welcome to bring your own hardware for install. Two locations stated they could not install my remote start (Even though I had detailed instructions) and that they could only install devices they sell.

Best buy doesn't tell you until after you have purchased this that you'll have to pay an additional $200 for other parts. I made a quick return.

Lots of added cost Gizmos that are required to make the system work properly, costs bundles of extra money, and not disclosed until they have your car. Final cost 2-1/2 times advertised price.

      Hi Snow,

I'm sorry if there was nobody there to perform the install during your appointment time. We definitely want to make sure our stores are properly staffed to provide our services. Thank you for posting and letting us know.

Did a great job but I had to pay additional Eh I I would have thought the remote starter including installation would have been covered other then of course the additional hardware which I was aware of when purchasing this for my F150.

Got this for my friend's car. Installation was not up to mark. The override switch was not installed and we were not informed. We had to go back twice to get it installed. The install was buggy and car failed to start many times and ended up draining the battery trying to start. Had to follow many times to get it fixed but still some issues remain.

ordered this remote starter for my husband for Christmas. I thought it was a great idea since his truck has to be parked in the driveway. Tried to book install. There are no installers even close to do it. Waste of money :(

Very disappointed! I got a very basic remote starter that does Not work easily! Before I bought it as a deal of day, I called best buy and they said it was a very good deal. I found out there was another deal of the day with a much better starter for the same price that came out the day before mine was installed!

I had this installed recently and the box said 1000ft distance. You literally have to be standing in front of the car for it to start??? Either a product issue or install issue . Still waiting for best buy to call me back.

I was given the remote starter and installation as a Christmas gift, which means I did not get it until Christmas (a month after it was purchased). After getting it I went online to make an appointment for installation and it took me over a month to actually make the appointment. The day of the installation I received a call from the Geeksquad to ask if I had the additional parts need to bypass the locks and kill switch in my car. I got the call while I was at work, so it was left as a message with no call back number of course. Called back, and was told that they had one part needed but the other one was unavailable and I would have to reschedule, but they could not tell me when the part would be in. I was furious at this point, and made a statement about being called at the last minute about this, to which the person on the phone stated it wasn't last minute as they had called me that morning.... sorry, but in my world calling me the day of install 3 weeks after the appointment was booked to inquire about parts is last minute.... I returned the remote starter to Best Buy in Braintree where they were not going to take it back because it was past the return/exchange date. It was past that point because it took that long to get an appointment, and they could not even install it because they did not have the parts to do so. I did get the money refunded to my girlfriends account, but never again. If you do this, make sure you know what parts your car will need in addition or do like I will be doing and go to an actual mechanic. To top it off, I lost a half days pay as I had already left my job for the day to deal with this.

Beware of buying Auto Remote Installation

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased Geek Squad remote installation service along with a Arctic Remote start kit. I called local BB Store to setup an appointment for installation and I was informed that they do not have auto tech installer at that store and referred me to another store close buy. Called the second store and talked to auto tech, but he said he is being transferred to the first store I called by the following week and he is fully scheduled before his transfer from second store. He also told me that he is on one week vacation before joining the first store. So technically I lost two weeks. Then again, he is not sure when would the first store would be able to give me an installation date after he join them. So I waited for two weeks and start calling the first store for installation appointment. 3 calls and 1 personal visit, could not find get hold to the auto tech, but was promised call backs all 4 times. Now more than a month passed, no one called back and I returned the remote starter and got a refund for the hardware. Now, I need to go back to the store and talk to the manager for getting refund for the un-used Remote start installation service that I paid over a month ago. Lesson: Make sure your local store has a auto tech available and check his earliest available date. In the event you decided not to use the service, getting a refund is a pain in the neck...

Setup install date for a week later and nothing.

Purchased a remote keyless entry / remote start viper system and Best Buy install. Totals $511 + tax. This was on a Saturday at noon. Sales guy says next install date they have open is the next Saturday and asks what times I would like. We confirm next Saturday at 9am. He sets up the date and says to watch my email for conformation or decline. By Wednesday still no email. Watching junk box, deleted items and inbox. Get nothing! Call them, lady looks up the installs for the coming Saturday. Says she sees nothing in the system with my name for that install date. That I could schedule for another install the following Saturday after the coming one, since that is the next open spot or call another best buy store. And try for earlier. F*** you! Spent $511 and you can't even get a install date correct! Never dealing with best buy on automotive installs again. Maybe it was luck, but they have tons of complaints on screwing cars up anyway. If they can't even get a week schedule date right. I really should not trust them on installing parts for a vehicle either.

More than a month lead time for installation

Bought a car starter for Christmas. The following week I called to schedule an installation to the Burlington store to find out that they dont have any installers (they are trying to hire one!). I was referred to two other stores. One gave me mid February as the next available time, the other -Malden- asked me to leave my contact information so they could call me back. Never received a call from them. The next day I returned the starter and went somewhere else to buy a starter that was installed the very next day. Consider doing this yourself.
