I will say these cameras were easy to install and set up on my phone. While I haven’t fully figured out the app and camera capabilities, I think I have the basics. But here is the downfall….These cameras are absolutely useless without the membership. There is no SD card and without the subscription you can only view the camera in live mode. And you don’t receive notifications of what is happening in front of the camera. So yeah, be ready to fork out at least $100 a year for a subscription so these already expensive cameras will work.

We are happy to hear that you were able to easily set up and install the device. While subscribed to one of our Ring Protect Plans, you will have access to videos of every motion and live view event. Without this service, you will still receive real-time video alerts on your smartphone and have access to the live view feature.

Great camera

I used it to add security to a spot where I couldn’t install a floodlight ring camera. I’d definitely recommend it, but consider getting a solar panel to avoid needing to charge it all the time. .

Users should definitely purchase the optional solar panels from Ring or the third party as you will never have to replace or charge a battery ever again. A small issue is that everything doesn't always pick up a recording depending on how far the distance is from the camera... Some things may be in view but not in good recording distance. Images are pretty clear, but probably even better on the more expensive model. Still highly recommended.

We have included some information here regarding the motion detection issue that you mentioned in your review. This camera uses adjustable motion detection and runs on passive infrared sensors. The system identifies visitors via a moving heat signature and sends a notification to your smart device when one is detected. You can adjust three preset motion zones and their distances under the "Motion Settings" tab on the device's page in the Ring app. Additionally, you can choose how often the camera checks for movement in those predefined zones via the "Motion Frequency" setting and increase the "Motion Sensitivity." If you find that your camera is missing some motions, please set the motion frequency to "Frequently."
Accuracy in motion detection can also be improved by enabling the "Smart Alerts" feature for people only in your Ring app. To enable "Smart Alerts", please follow these steps:
Tap the menu (≡) on the top left.
Tap "Devices."
Tap the device that you want to adjust.
Tap "Motion Settings."
Tap "Smart Alerts."
Tap "Enable Feature."
Tap "Continue."
Select the notification options that you want for "Person" and "Other Motion."
You'll see a video camera where you can select or de-select recording and a bell icon to represent alert notifications.
After you've adjusted your settings, tap "Done."

Very easy to install and the battery lasts a very long time. I also bought a second battery because it does hold two. The picture quality is great.
