||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was a little skeptical but very happy with purchase. Cleans up pet hair - great suction! Be sure to empty each use for best results. I was very surprised how determined and strong it is when climbing over thresholds. We left out slider open the leads onto our screened in porch….. found the little guy cleaning our porch deck lol

Love the mapping
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After trying a couple of other vacuum robots this AV2001 is the best. With the mapping application it really is smart enough to avoid things and clean the rooms or area you want. Be sure to pick up loose cords or they will get sucked up. Lately the mapping hasn’t been showing what has been cleaned, but I will call shark and see what they do.

It’s great, but I have no basis to compare
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Short story is that this is a great product, but I have no basis with which to compare. This is my first robot vacuum so I don't know if the Shark AV2001 is doing a GREAT job, a GOOD job or a TERRIBLE job compared to other brands. All I can say is that I had a great experience with the product so far. I will say this, though, if the performance of the AV2001 is the standard performance of all robot vacuums then a robot vacuum will NOT fully replace a manual vacuum. Setup of the product is easy. Power on the robot, plug in the base unit, and place the robot on the base and let it charge. Download the SharkClean app and go through the very easy setup - connect to the device, connect to wifi - and you are ready to go. The device comes pre-charged to 30% so you will have to charge it. It takes a little while to get up to a high enough level (60+) to consider doing the mapping or the cleaning. The steps to clean are: 1) run mapping, 2) run clean. That's it. The mapping will take about 20-50 minutes depending on the size you plan to map. I mapped two of my floors: one was hard wood and was probably about 400 sqft and the other was carpet and around 600 sqft. They both took around 20 minutes to map. The hard wood, even though it was smaller, took longer because of all the tables and chairs, whereas the carpet floor went faster because of fewer roadblocks even though it was a bigger area. It appears that the laser eyes see very far out because on the carpet floor it did not have to even approach the walls to map it. The maps on both floors were 100% perfect. There were 2 hiccups, which again, this is probably generic to all robot vacuums and also human error on my part. On the hardwood floor there is a step, which the robot accurately mapped, however at one part of the step down there was a shiny mini balloon on the floor. Because the lasers of the robot is mapping what it sees on a down angle, it mapped that there was vacuum space where the balloon was. So when it came time to clean the robot fell off the step. This was solved by running the map editor. With the carpet floor, so as to avoid any problems with mapping the edge of the staircase, I put a board along the ledge so the robot would map a wall and stop when cleaning. Because it mapped the wall from so far away and didn't visit the actual board, when it came time to clean, wherein i removed the board, it vacuumed a bit to close to the edge of the step and the wheel went over to the point where the robot couldn't move. Again, human error. The robot should be able to map the edges without putting a temporary wall. Each time I ran the mapping it used about 30-40% of the battery charge. The device will let you run mapping even if you are well below 100%. Cleaning will use 70-100% of the battery depending on the strength of the cleaning and the size. The 400 sqft area at normal cleaning level used about 50% battery, where as max cleaning on the 600 sqft area used about 70-80% battery. It is nice that the app shows the battery level. Does it clean? Certainly. Does it clean well? I guess so? I have nothing with which to compare, so it could be good, it could be bad. I don't know. All I know is that it collects dust. Hard wood cleaning is of course perfect. Can't get that wrong. As far as carpet cleaning? It works, but I ran the vacuum a second and third time not long after the first run and it collected equally as much dust the second time, and a bit less the third time. This leads me to believe that robot vacuums will not REALLY replace full upright manual vacuums. It also failed to pick up small pieces onion peel in both types of floor, strangely. One issue with robot vacuums (this is not limited to the shark) is that it is terrible with cleaning corners and edges. It just doesn't do it because of how these things are designed, which further strengthens the idea that this can't replace an upright vacuum. So by my estimation, I'd say that robot vacuums (not just the Shark) are like...80-85% effective and are a nice casual solution to keep the surface of your carpet floors clean. They won't do the agitation necessary to clean deep in carpets. HOWEVER, because of its size and design it WILL clean to places your traditional upright vacuum are unable to touch (without significant manual labor to relocate) - under beds, under cribs, under tables, under sofas, etc. One issue I ran into with the Shark is that it picked up a laundry sheet in the wheel while vacuuming somewhere along the carpet, probably beneath the beds (where I wouldn't think to look since I never clean there prior to having a robot vacuum). As a result, the device couldn't move one wheel and it would just turn in circles. I figured something was wrong, but I couldn't figure out what it was until closer inspection. It was wedged into the wheel very deep. It wasn't impossible to get out, thankfully. Another issue I ran into was cables. If the robot runs into cables, it'll fail and need a reboot. Again, not sure this is specific to the Shark vacuum, I assume it applies to all robot vacuums. So make sure your cleaning area is prepped. A nice touch is the ability to clean without the app, assuming you have already mapped the floor. Just click the clean button on the robot and it'll go. The vacuum chamber is not that big, again, probably not special to Shark robots, all robots are similarly sized and shaped. The only difference is that some models have a base that will automatically empty the chamber to hold up to multiple days/weeks worth of material. The AV2001 requires manual clean, which is not a deal-breaker in my book since, after seeing what it collected, a hand cleaning seems necessary. The app is very nice, easy to operate, setup, see the battery level. The only concern I have with it, which is not specific to the AV2001 model since the Shark app applies to ALL Shark devices, is that the editing of the map is so basic and is not really an editor. All it lets you do is crop the map in 2 dimensions and maintain a rectangular room. I would much rather have an eraser tool as opposed to a cropping tool. But it'll do I suppose. You could always remap the room. I don't see anything that would prevent the Shark AV2001 from being a five-star product. It is well built, it works, the app is great.

Disappointed

Great for Hard Floors
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We’ve had our older Shark RV 1001 unit for about 2 ½ years. It’s a good robot vac, but I was never thrilled with the lack of suction power & was hoping this new AV 2001 would be better. It’s definitely better! Setup is a simple process. I already had the App, but if you’re new to Shark, you just give it a full charge out of the box (~6 hrs.), download the App, connect to your Wi-Fi and send it on its way to begin the first mapping. The Shark cleaned well & picked up everything in its path. I even threw down some shredded paper pieces here & there to test it. It was very thorough & swept them all up. I use it on the downstairs floor which is 100% dark faux wood; so, it’s easy to see what has & hasn’t been cleaned. But when I use it on carpet, I don’t feel that it has the suction power of a standard upright vac. The path/mapping of this unit & my old unit has never made much sense. I don’t watch it every moment of the cleaning process, but the path it takes seems illogical & inefficient at times. For example, it will start methodically moving row-by-row in one room, then suddenly wander off to another area & start a new row-by-row path. However, when I view the completed vacuum session map, I can see that the entire space was covered; so, in the end, it gets the job done in spite of its circuitous route. Overall, it’s a great robo-vac for hard floors. My only wish would be that it included an auto-suctioning, self-emptying bin. Without that, I have to turn the vac upside down & manually remove the collected dirt, dust, & debris.

Good vacuum... APP need way more development.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The vacuum does what is suppose to do, the problem here is the app. The app need more development and should give more control over the vacuum. For example, it should works as a control where you can move the robot freely, and not obligate it to use the registered map.
