Works great but loud

Never knew I needed a robot vacuums till I got this Shark robot vacuum. It is fantastic. The set up was super easy. Easy to read instructions plus added voice command from the vacuum itself made it a breeze. I took everything out of the box and within 10 minutes, it was working and mapping the house out. Although my house is kinda small, the living area is hard floor while the bedrooms are carpeted. The vacuum had no issues navigating between the two. It has picked up most items on the floor including some dog hairs. We have 2 dogs, but they don't shed much. The fill station on the dock is there to empty the vacuum when it docks. It is large enough where we don't have to empty it all the time. Maybe once every 2 weeks. The only real complaint, and it's a big one, this thing is loud. It was a lot louder than some of the ones I've seen at friends house. I don't know if it's supposed to be this loud, but it is very annoying. And when it docks and fills the tank with the dirt collected, it sounds like the vacuum at the car wash. LOUD. The only reason I give it 3 stars and not 5. I love how little I have to deal with it, but the noise might be a deal breaker for me.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your review on the Shark EZ Robot vacuum. We are happy to hear that set-up and initial use was a breeze. We regret that the robot is not meeting expectations regarding being loud. We suggest using the app you can adjust the mode to eco and this will reduces the sound slightly. You may also want to set-up scheduled cleaning allowing the robot to clean and empty when it is a convenient time for your household. If the issue continues we would be happy to assist you, our Robot Specialists are available at 1-888-228-5531 Monday to Friday, 9:00 am - 9:00 pm EST, as well as Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm EST.

Cleans, but no room map and dumb as a brick

The good news is it cleans well - great for staying on top of the dust bunnies, or in our case the chunks of fur when two cats decide to go UFC on each other.
The downsides:
1) There is no room mapping option. The Shark site shows the robot mapping your floor and you can then mark up rooms on the map so you can set specific tasks like just clean the front room.
*Not* with this model! You get a map report showing where it went (assuming it was light or you had the lights on - it will clean in the dark but no map report.
2) It always runs on Normal power - you can change it to max or eco but only once it starts. It will not remember your setting.
3) It is dumb as a brick. Firstly, it basically bumps its way around and sometimes it decides it simply must clean a corner or similar just beyond where a barrier or small step is and spends several minutes hammering away like a randy box turtle trying to get over the barrier.
Secondly, how it gets from somewhere back to the dock sometimes makes no sense - it heads one way, hits a table leg and rather then move a few inches to the side it decides to go all the way down the hall, through a different room and come back to the same spot and this time gets through.
It really is best not to watch it - just leave it to do its job and keep the dust cup empty

Downloading App and Setting up was easy. Connecting to wifi wasn't as easy as stated in easy start guide. After it finally connected vacuum went thru it's 1st cleaning or learning mode. Has worked great since that point and makes life easier on my daughter. She is a teacher and doesn't always have time with after school events, tutoring, and grading papers (all done on her own time). THis was a Christmas gift and she appears very happy with it.

This robot is not always the smartest. It does not map out the house, so you can’t send it to a specific room. Sometimes it vacuums the same room more then once. But overall it does the job. I really like that it empties itself out when it is full. We have a dog and she will bring in grass/dirt, robot easily picks it up.

Better than my Roomba

I like this robot vacuum so much! The BEST thing About this vacuum is that when it cleans it goes in lines like you would with a normal manual vacuum! My roomba would randomly shoot off in every direction and I was never confident that it cleaned the whole room. This shark also empties itself in its own deceptively so you don’t have to empty it after every use. I have been so impressed at the dirt it picks up! This is the absolute best robot vacuum.

Overall a great product. We're a multi level house so it stays in our main area where guests frequent. With 5 animals it certainly helps us out. The one star ding is for a few of the cons - error 2 being the big one, as an obstruction wasn't obvious or easy to find (i found it accidentally)
Pros:
--Self empties into the base so you don't need to empty it after each run
--Cleans well
--Can control using phone app
--Easy to set up
--Seems built using quality (rubber roller brush, fell down stairs without damage, washable filter in robot)
--Support number on bottom of robot, easy to read
--Brand name is not known for poor products
--Animals are starting to get used to it (still won't go near it)
--Can run it while we're out of the house (as long as cats toys or anything that would tangle in it is on the floor, and we block the stairs going down so it doesn't get stuck wheel)
Cons:
--Not very quiet
--30 day return period (as far as i saw from best buy), but for the cost you'd almost expect a bit more, like 60 or 90 days
--Does not come with boundary tape, which for the price I'd have expected some for maybe stairs or something
--Ours will try to cut a corner on our stairs going down, causing one wheel to drop down and get stuck with the machine unable to move, requiring intervention. First time this happened was while we were out so the floor didn't get clean until we came home
--No color options
--Support (didn't call, just looked up) is by phone only during certain days/times of the week (i usually prefer email)
--While it works for us, it seems like it would be more useful to a more open home. Our furniture and pet beds make it keep turning around
--Seems rather expensive comparatively, as the real difference between less expensive robots seems to be the base holding what it picks up or not
--Run time is usually closer to 1h30m for our one level (kitchen, dining, living, entrance all hard wood)
--Doesn't seem to go row-by-row, but somewhat random directions
--Have to empty base every week. While I didn't expect it to hold 30 days worth of dirt from our 5 animal home, I definitely thought it'd hold more than a week
--We recently had run into error 2 "obstruction" and it wouldn't work after only having it for 2-3 months. Cleaned the roller, wheels, sensors, emptied base & robot (through it's back). Still an issue, no real resolution online. What FIXED error 2 was removing the roller, and one end of the roller has a cap on it, which had hair tangled beneath the cap (preventing the roller from rotating). Once I removed that hair I turned the robot off then on again (just to be safe) and it seems to be working now

Overall, this is a good vacuum and meets my needs for my living space. I currently use this upstairs where we have carpet, and I'm surprised each time how much dust this picks up. I purchased this online as new but had to return it as it was clearly open boxed or used prior to my purchase (it wouldn't charge when on the base station and had scuff marks on the outside). I exchanged for another one, and it does work really well for vacuuming. You can download the app to schedule cleanings, start/stop, increase/decrease vacuum power, etc., but this version of Shark will not map out your living space. For example, if I only wanted it to clean the living room, I cannot tell the Shark to do this from the app - so it cleans the entire area/living space, which usually takes 1.5 hours (I'm not in that big of a living space, either, but it goes through and does areas again if it detects it's still dirty). The minor issue I've encountered with this model is that for some reason, it started squeaking really loud after a few months of use. I let that slide and have not troubleshoot why that's happening, but at some point I'll look under the hood and fix it. I've heard from friends that this model is louder vacuuming compared to the next level model of Shark vacuums, so I would probably purchase an upgraded version next time because I also prefer my carpets to be vacuumed in more than one direction (e.g., criss-cross patterns versus individual straight lines in one direction).

I will start off by saying I did get this product on sale, so the expectations I had for it being nearly half off blew me out of the water. I saw some negative reviews about how loud this vacuum is, but I want to clear the air on that issue by stating- it really isn’t that loud. You can have this cleaning the same room as you’re in and have a conversation with someone without raising your voice. The only loud part about the Shark RV912S is when it goes to the dock; that suction of it cleaning out the robots waste into the larger bin is extremely loud but only lasts perhaps 30 seconds max. This robot also comes with an extremely simple to use and feature packed application available for your smartphone. The app allows you to do things such as: schedule cleaning to begin at a certain time on certain days, adjust the suction power, start the robot remotely (even if you’re not on the same network), stop the robot remotely, and change the frequency of how often it docks while cleaning. As far as the actual cleaning is regarded, it certainly isn’t bad, but it may take several pass overs to get things on thicker carpet, and due to the design it isn’t too great in the corners. The pathing in general though is incredible, it’s ability to clean in straight rows is exactly as advertised and does indeed pick up where it left off, if it docks mid cleaning to empty the waste. It also has cleaned by our upper floor stairs plenty of times now and the first few times I definitely sat there and supervised it, but I’m now confident it will not fall. Finally, my one big con, and the reason this loses a star from me is the error codes. The app does make this slightly better, but generally the errors are very vague and leave you having to really search the bottom of the robot to see where things are getting stuck or where a blockage may be. All in all though, I’m so extremely happy I purchased one!

Absolutely amazing. Everything from the quality of the build, the highly simplistic and quick setup, to the high level of customization in the app along with a self empty bin that drastically reduces how often you have to clean/empty the device. With the schedule I have it set to and how careful it is with home objects I honestly forget I have it sometimes till I get notified about the full bin, I get to just enjoy highly clean floors with practically no work put in.

I've owned for about 6 months and I cant say Im impressed. My biggest complaint is that it doesnt auto go back to the dock when its full to empty the bin... i think it just does it by a time frame. So it just drags and slings dirt around until it decides to return to the dock (havent figured out the trigger for that yet) or until you manually empty it. I understand it doesnt have wifi (which i prefer) - but it cant find the dock if you start it from somewhere other than the dock (like a bathroom). So i have to hope that the vaccum will make its way into that room before the battery dies OR if you do manually start it seperate from the dock - it will just keep going in circles looking for the dock until the battery dies (unless you pick it up and put it back on the dock). Not quite sure what the camera looking thing on top is - its not supposed to have a camera/wifi so it seems a bit weird.

Smart vacuum that gets more and more dumb

Great vaccuum but declining intelligence. This smart robot vacuum started off great. The first month, it was getting the entire house and picking up a surprising amount. Since then, it has gone over same areas multiple times while completely missing others.
It also has decided to let itself die from a running out of battery from either just not returning to the base station or failing to return by not going the correct way. The station has not been moved. It will sometimes say it encountered an obstacle in the middle of the floor.
App software is terrible and the devs do not seem to care. Just look at reviews on the play store. It is suppsed to show you a map of where it cleaned, which it did for the first 2 weeks. Now its not even listed.
Overall I would say buy at your own risk. Hardware-wise, this is a great product. Software-wise, not so much. I bought on sale and would not pay full price

I've had this for over a month now and I love it. It sucks up everything in its path. It goes on top of rugs unlike a past vacuum I had. The fact that it empties itself is just amazing, I don't have to think about it for weeks at a time.
It gets stuck in tight places sometimes but not too often. The app will tell you any problem it encounters so you can fix it.

Long Hair, Be Aware

If you have long hair(mine is about 2-3ft long), be aware you'll likely have to clear the roller about once a week, maybe 2 if you have animals. It's not too big of a deal, it's just 3 screws, you pull out the roller, and take the hair off from both ends. For me it's a small price to pay to not vacuum manually. I have mine set to go every day, so if you only need it to go every other day, you'll take longer to need a cleaning. Overall it's a solid machine, that picked up 3 loads off my floor AFTER I ran through with a large vacuum. So it picks quite a bit off the floor. I empty the base once a week (on trash night), and it always seems like it could fit more, so the 30 day claim may not be as far fetched as a skeptic would think. Overall I recommend it, but if you have longer hair, or long haired animals, I would swing by a local hardware store and get a T8 Torx screwdriver. I believe you can also find it in an iFixit set, if you didn't want to go to 2 stores.

We're run it about 15 times with no hint in the app of any room map. However, from its behavior it's apparent that it's getting some idea of the house layout. Other reviewers say it takes 30 or so runs before the app displays anything.
It's fairly quiet; cleans well. The self-empty feature is nice. It doesn't fall down the stairs but has occasionally got stuck: once against an irregular rock surface of the wall when a piece of plastic got caught up and confused its sensors (understandable). Once it caught got in a sliding door track; we usually have a security board in there anyway. And one time on the fringe of a rug. But each time it was easy to move it and renew the cleaning run.
My wife originally didn't want a robot vacuum but now likes having it. Worth what we paid but probably not worth the full listed price.

I love this thing. It does not have lidar yet does a good job of navigating around my apartment. I imagine it might take a long time to finish a larger home as it does have to go back to its base several times before finishing. Cleans well. Does not get itself stuck too often, just dont leave socks on the floor. Easy to empty and clean. The app is basic but works fine.
