Excellent Tv blows my previous Samsung Led away in picture quality. No light bleeding in corners or edges and colors are much more vivid. Had to do a little tweaking from manufacturer settings to get rid of the soap opera effect and get the colors correct but once that was done all I can say is wow. Also the price impossible to beat. Great Tv wish I had one of these in all my rooms. Don't waste your money on 4k and all that gimmicky stuff. This Tv has great picture and if you sit more than 2 feet away you won't be able to see any difference.

5 year check in and this TV is still going strong. Absolutely incredible detail and color for a 1080p set. Movies, TV, Netflix, Xbox, PS4 all look absolutely amazing. After a few tweaks to the settings to my liking for each source, i can say that I don’t feel like I’m missing out of 4K and HDR. This TV has satisfied my needs immensely and I receive compliments on the picture quality every time I have guests. Only cons are that it is very reflective of you have a lamp or window shining on the tv. And there’s also some backlight uniformity issues that only appear in really dark scenes. However, the black levels on this tv with the right settings are really good for the panel. Very satisfied buyer, and will be buying Sony again when it’s time to upgrade.

Excellent 1080p LCD TV from Sony

Had an older Samsung LCD finally fail due to capacitor and power issues and decided it was time to replace. I wasn't quite ready to make the jump yet to 4K and figured a 55" would be enough for now until I upgrade to a larger size later this year. After doing my research I decided on the Sony KDL55W800C. This TV is a big upgrade from my previous TV and is an excellent buy. I've had the TV now for almost a month and I have no buyers remorse. The default settings out of the box were pretty good but I would still recommend doing your own calibrations to really unlock the full potential. Also be sure to grab the update to the OS immediately after powering it up. PROS: - Android OS powered apps and menus makes navigating a snap. - Extremely slim form factor and bezel adds to the aesthetic appeal. - Solid black levels and contrast output on the image. - Solid color reproduction especially when calibrated properly. - Refresh rate of 120 Hz native is great for games or sports. - Active 3D capable is a nice bonus. - ARC capable. - Solid build construction and great positioning of HDMI ports. CONS: - Remote control is pretty basic but not a factor since I'm using a Harmoney 880. - No 3D glasses included so a separate purchase. - Edge-Lit LCD which is surprisingly not as bright as other models. Back lighting is good but can be impacted with a room filled with lots of windows. I have mine in a great room with windows and it does great but I can see how this would be a negative. - Input selection cycles through listing. I prefer direct selection since programming a universal remote is easier. From the "Home" menu you can do this but it is a minor complaint. - No integrated web browser. - TV speakers are fair-acceptable given the physical dimensions but best to run through home theater setup or a sound bar if used in a large room. OVERALL: A solid 55" 1080p TV with excellent features and picture quality. It's not 4K but probably one of the best non-4K TVs you can get. Being 3D capable is a nice bonus and works well. Also be sure to upgrade your HDMI cables to support the high transfer rates.

The w800c is a really great 1080p tv. Small form factor with an insanely thin bezel and a realistic picture with nice color. Android TV is nicely done. Basically a self-contained chromecast. Bravia-sync worked really well too. I am not a fan of the smart remotes and waving my arms around like a mouse. This remote is basic but does all you want to do. You can also download the SideView app by Sony to turn your phone into a remote control. Only flaw is entering multiple commands in a short period (like moving in and out of an application followed by several picture adjustments etc) that may tax the processor which will need to sit 20-30 seconds before it will accept another command. Other than that, a great looking piece of furniture that's also a wonderful looking TV.

I give this product 5 stars because the picture is amazing, however the sound is a bit lacking, of course most TVs these days are. The android TV features are pretty impressive, just make sure to update to the latest version, after the initial setup. If it begins to go slow after heavy use press and hold the power button for 5 seconds for a full restart, it will be fast again. The main reason it might go slow in the first place is because most people don't back out of the app they are in and just press the home button. this leaves the app running in the background and will most likely cause it to slow down just like an android phone would. If you want to search the store using the voice feature a Sony touchpad remote only available for purchase on their website is required. Seeing as how I never use that feature it doesn't effect me. you can also plug in a wireless or wired keyboard to help make searching easier. Last the Sony PlayStation Now App requires a Dualshock 4 remote that pairs easily with a micro USB cable which can also be used to play gamepad required Android TV games. However my only concern is that the PlayStation 3 games are pretty pricey to rent. 19.99 for a month and 44.99 for 3 months is just plain crazy, just enjoy your free trial and maybe when or if it lowers in price you can subscribe.

This review is my experience with this Sony vs Samsung's similar 1080p offering. After thorough research, and trial and error I settled on the KDL55-W800C. I use this TV in my living room with the couch about 10' away. I'm resisting moving up to a 4K just yet, since I sit beyond a range I'd be able to tell without a much larger screen. I use it mostly for gaming (Steam Link) and movies/netflix. I had purchased a Samsung UN55J6200 for a hundred less than the Sony, but while I think the Samsung had a smidge better picture. The overall build quality of the Sony seemed leaps beyond. The metal stand looks great, this is in my living room, it gets seen by everyone. The bezel is miniature and the panel is bonkers thin. It looks like a million bucks sitting anywhere. The Samsung sits on top of their universal fits-all plastic stand, and inside a cheap plastic housing. Besides looks, the connectivity of the Sony is just flat out superior, no contest. Theres enough input for anything, and it handles being a PC monitor well. Android TV beats the Samsung smart hub handily also. And, to top it off - The remote. It's good. I hated Samsungs afterthought remote control. Every button is the same feel/shape/size, so good luck finding the Select button amongst the return, down, up, left, right or whatever else button is in the vicinity and feels the exact same. And good luck telling which direction it's pointing and whether youre hitting volume up or channel down. The Sony has a Netflix button right on it, that's all I want. And buttons I don't have to look at to use. In the end, the Samsung was still a great TV with great picture quality, and could be had for less, it's just not ideal for my use. I gave it to a friend and we mounted it on the wall. It looks fine there and suits his needs perfect - a no frills, good picture. I believe this is what Samsung intended, figuring most people would be mounting their TV to a wall, running 1 HDMI to it from a receiver, and never touching it after that. I just needed a bit more out of my TV.

Sony Bravia has always been the TV of choice for me. They have never let me down, despite their decline in popularity in recent years. While Samsung and LG have made huge strides in the marketplace, SONY continues to be my favorite. I bought this TV after being disappointed by the LG 4K. This TV was easy to set up. Adjustments were minimal and didn't require a call to a geek squad member or anyone else to try and figure out. The picture is clear and the sound is great. Of course, as in all new TVs, a sound bar would be a good purchase if you're one who like to watch a lot of movies. But for average tv viewing, it's perfect. They have a number of apps available for those of you who enjoy watching shows from other sources. For me, Netflix was really all I needed and having a dedicated netflix button on the remote is definitely a plus. I will say this...many critics have called out less than ideal viewing when viewing the TV from sharp angles. At first, I was hesitant because of it. But the truth is...who the heck watches TV from the far corners of a room anyway? All in all, I'm extremely happy with my purchase. Go Sony!

After losing a plasma TV to a blue line the Geek Squad credit was applied to a new set. having had a Sony last 25+ years before, and the reviews, I picked this, downsizing from 60" to 55". There are numerous menus and settings that are not as intuitive as I'd like and I like technologies. The remote control has small, skinny buttons and could be better and is made from a very cheap plastic. Once you bounce back/forth with the settings and frustrations ease with each miscue that you fix, it becomes better. I disliked the darks as too dark. At Christmas time the Stevie Wonder commericial with Apple was too dark in the candlelight scenes. If a movie scene or TV show goes into the dark, abandoned building to chase the bad guys, the picture gets very dark. Googling this situation found others with the same problems and some fixes that seem to work. It's all abound the fine-tuning and like the MPGs in your car...your mileage may vary. It's adjusting like seasoning food to your tastes. I've used some of the suggested Google settings and it's much better. Any picture in daylight or with a bright(er) background will show up just fine. The others, not so much, but they're getting better. I went back to my salesman at BBuy and he recommended getting Disney's World of Wonder DVD/Blu-Ray. One disc has wonderful awesome pictures and the other is a walk-you-through the scenario of setting up the pictures DVD with calibration. The reviews for it are great. So great I can't get it and it's backordered even at Wallymart. So I now have a blue-ray and cables awaiting a disc to further clibrate or send Geek Squad over to check it out. Lastly, this might not have happened if BestBuy had not moved to a 3d party setup crew that essentially is two large guys lifting a new set in, plugging it in to see that it works, connect and HDMI (they didn't even put it on Cable/Sat and chose HDMI 2) to the new receiver and take off. So the Geek Squad I got didn't even cover basic setup as it did with the LG plasma that I miss. re-think this Best Buy. I'm confident that with some more fiddling and the blu-ray I'll be able to nail the picture down more given the reviews. I don't use the smart TV stuff, that is Android only. Maybe I'll try netflicks or whatever with the new blu-ray player. not sure.

We were looking to replace a 52" LED TV from another leading manufacturer...a section of the LEDs had died after less than three years. We decided to spend a little more and get this Sony, and we are very happy with it so far. Amazing picture, perfect compatibility with our other components, and the latest update to the Android TV operating system is great. If you've ever used an Android device and have a Gmail account, the setup and operation is simple. Apps and videos load much quicker than our old smart TV and other streaming devices. We didn't buy the set for the 3D, but ended up pick up a set of generic active glasses, and it works very well with 3D movies and the PS3. We were tempted to go with the 4k version, but we have no available content, and the refresh rate is noticeably better on this 1080p TV.

This is the third 3D television of this exact size that I have owned over the last eleven years. The first two were other brands and only lasted 5 years each,so this time I was researching TV ratings for reliability and longevity. Also the other TV's had been plasma sets so it was time to test out an LED model. All of us who have watched both 3D and Blue Ray movies on this TV have been really impressed with the depth, clarity and color compared to the previous TV's. I would highly recommend that you buy this set. One more thing I would like to point out is the excellent low price for this quality set.Our previous two sets were almost double the price of this set. Even now you can pay $500 more as the next price point up - WHY ? No reason, this set really gives you a lot of "Bang for the Buck"!

Sony always delivers! Such a thin beautiful screen, I've yet to use the actual 3D function of the television, but the motion flow technology is insane! Colors are sharp and fluid, perfect for my PS4. I always buy Sony. I will say, I wish the remote came with some sort of manual; I've even tried looking up a manual online and still nothing. There are like 10000 buttons on the remote and I have no idea what 90% of them mean. I can also say this for the TV itself, I'm sure the TV does a lot of neat things/tricks but there is no tutorial/manual. Quality television from a quality brand (at least when it comes to electronics/TV's).

Pro- the screen is clear, nice picture. Lightweight - easy to set up, easy network setup to media server and network. slim and astheticly pleasing. Easy to navigate to APPs Con- the remote is small and hard to hit the correct buttons for a regular size male hand and flimsy. the "football" mode actually makes the picture worse more of a gimmick, untilities like typical android OS - not very user friendly and too many bloat APPS pre installed .... Some of which don't work - no screen saver, split screen hard to configure even with instructions. Haven't used the 3D yet - and Best Buy now charges elite members for screen calibration - colors are very much off - no day/night mode. Would recommend for a TV if really needed a new basic Hd smart TV but would recommend others f HD TV other models and brrands for better features and OS .Overall not horrible for price.

I originally was set on replacing my 50'' plasma Samsung with another Samsung. I am big on brand loyalty and I always liked the picture of a Samsung over any other manufacturers. (ie LG, Vizio) I never considered Sony because I thought of it as a dying brand. After talking with the salesperson in the store and seeing the Sony side-by-side with a Samsung; I chose Sony. This TV truly delivers an unbeatable picture, accurate flesh tones, and deep blacks. I would say it looks almost as good as Samsung's 4K in the same price range. I used to use Chromecast for Apps because it was always much easier to navigate than native TV apps however I am impressed with the ease of this TV's apps! The Sony uses an Android system that you can link to your Google account making it that much more enjoyable. In conclusion I was wrong about Sony being a dead brand and would consider taking a look at Sony if you're in the market for a new TV.

One of the primary reasons I bought this TV is because I was on the market for a 3D TV, and the black Friday/ cyber Monday promotion was great. I know I could've gotten a 4k TV for the same price, but there isn't really much that even outputs in 4k at this point. The android TV feature is awesome, though I don't much care for the fact that any smart TV has the ability to track what or how much you watch TV, even if it is only for debugging purposes. The stand is very sturdy and of metal round-bar construction. Now for the Cons The biggest con was the fact that this TV originally retails for at least $1,000 and doesn't include a single pair of 3D glasses. Not only that, but Best Buy doesn't stock the glasses compatible with this device, even though this is a new to 2015 TV. I was also unable to find any first party 3D glasses for it available anywhere online, so I ended up have to settle for a third party pair, which actually seem to work quite well. And I don't really consider this a con, but this TV is so big and thin that it makes it awkward for one person to set up or move around without feeling like you could damage, especially with the bezel being as thin as it is. I also miss having a swivel stand, but that will be remedied some day with a wall mount. While the TV may not be perfect, I don't feel that the little quirks are enough to not consider it, especially if you are looking for something that offers 3D.

Great TV all around - excellent picture, easy setup, tons of features, great streaming. I had compared this to some 4k TVs, but there wasn't enough available content to justify paying more. The refresh rate and picture are much better than an another 1080p 120hz LED TV we have from another brand.

This is my 3rd Sony Bravia and safe to say not my last. This new 55" is now the primary for our living room replacing a 40" Bravia I picked up 5 yrs. ago (still good just relocated to another room in the house). Clean lines, super thin, light and once again, a high-quality image from Sony. Refresh rate makes for crisp viewing of sports, advanced color settings on the unit allow you to set up an optimal image. I had purchased a 55" Samsung 4K that was to have an "Enhanced" refresh rate for sports - yeah, it doesn't come close. Returned it the next day and went back to Sony. Although the guys at the store tried pushing me to the 4K I am glad I stuck with the 1080p. It's going to be a couple years yet and until there is a greater number of programs and devices that support 4K I'll live with a 120hz @1080. For the price and the quality this display is at the top of the list.

Was looking at higher end samsung 3d for a long time but just couldn't pull the trigger on a $1500-2000 television and they dont offer 3d tv anywhere this price point. This 55" was under $800; It's only 1080p, but looks great from all angles at my house, and I haven't seen any actual 4k content yet, well, except at store. All samsung 3d sets include 2-4 sets of glasses. Sony not even providing glasses to retailers, maybe to drive up price, (cheapest right now is $89, MSRP at $50 is already asinine) bought Samsung SSG-5150GB for under $20 and they work well, no flicker and they sync to tv. Hope sony doesn't wonder why they are losing market share. Would have paid $40 more for set with glasses. Sound is impressive from small speakers, will upgrade with sound system though. Would have gotten 5 stars if glasses weren't such a hassle.
