This tv is amazing I love everything about this my only issue is why I can’t play YouTube vídeos in 8k resolution besides that I’m very happy with my purchase

So when I bought this TV i previously had an LG CX OLED 65 inch. I loved that tv but I wanted something bigger and I wanted a brighter picture then what an OLED could do. So when I started watching this tv I was in ah just how awesome this color and how bright the picture got. I play a lot of movies from streaming like ( Disney + , Netflix, and YouTube) it is just amazing. Then I have a PS5 on this tv and wow is all can say with it.

Sony - 85" Class BRAVIA XR Z9K Mini-LED Is amazing TV

This 85” Z9K 8K mini-LED/LCD TV replaced my 10-year-old Panasonic 65” ZT60 plasma TV (a 1080p studio master panel TV). I wanted a bigger TV size with a higher resolution and higher TV brightness. The picture on the Z9K is outstanding when fed good quality 4K content (and naturally so with 8K content) - very detailed and smooth, with very strong/vibrant colors. There is also a good 3D appearance/depth in high-quality videos, especially in HDR/Dolby Vision. My main 4K content comes via Apple TV 4K box playing Netflix, Max, YouTube, and Apple TV+ contents that look great even though they get streamed at probably less than half of full 4K bitrate. The picture quality on the built-in TV apps (Netflix, YouTube, etc.) looks almost as good. The built-in Sony Bravia Core app brings the 4K picture quality up to the highest streaming level with the claimed full 4K bitrate, but 4K movie selection is fairly limited there. Although the max video resolution that the TV can play from the built-in apps is 4K, most 8K and 12K videos from YouTube (places, animals, nature, etc., played at 4K via the app and upscaled to 8K by the TV) look better than 4K videos. The Z9K is also very good with good quality 1080 HD content, and some high quality 1080 HD content looks almost as good as average streamed 4K content. 1080p Blue-Ray disc movies look great on the Z9K. A large portion of my TV watching is via a Comcast Xfinity X1 4K cable box with a somewhat mixed experience. Good quality 1080 HD content looks very good. Lower picture quality content (due to video compression/low bitrate streaming, or poor quality of the original video) is still OK to watch on the 85” Z9K and looks good when watched from 10ft+ away, although such lower quality content may look better on a smaller size TV that can make such picture flaws less noticeable. Still, the Z9K displays much better picture than my 65” ZT60 plasma TV. Similar observations apply to watching sports on Z9K – most look good and bright and without visible motion blur, while those occasionally available in 4K look great. Viewing angles are very good for an LCD TV, although some picture fading may become noticeable when viewing from more than about 30 degrees off center. Regarding blooming/halo effects around bright objects/areas surrounded by dark areas, which cannot be fully eliminated on any LED-LCD TV due to such panel technology, I don’t notice it in normal viewing on my Z9K, not even in subtitles that I often have displayed. On a closer look in darker viewing conditions, there is some halo visible around bright areas/objects on the screen that are next to or surrounded by black or very dark areas, but that is also similarly present on OLED and plasma TVs albeit perhaps to a somewhat lesser extent. Such glow/halo effects occur naturally due to light dispersion and reflections captured in the original video that also occurs through the TV screen and the surrounding air while watching TV (the original video was not captured in a vacuum, and neither do we watch TV in a vacuum). The Z9K is one of the brightest TVs, so the bright areas and the subtitles can be very bright and may have a more apparent glow around them when surrounded by dark areas, especially in a dark room. My ZT60 plasma TV has a much lower brightness and no HDR, and I can still see some glow around bright spots at the black bars and in dark picture areas. The black bars (the top and bottom black areas of the screen in a wide picture format) are deep black on my Z9K. The black colors appear as black as on my plasma TV. The glow that is visible over the black bars at bright picture areas is not there (not visible) when I cover the bright picture area along the black bar on the screen with a book. I see similar effects on my plasma TV that inherently does not suffer from any blooming due to its self-emissive type of panel technology like OLED TVs. The 85” version of Z9K apparently has a different panel with a much higher native contrast ratio than the 75” Z9K, so that also may be helping it with deeper black colors and not noticeable blooming. Picture details in dark scenes are well preserved without introducing noticeable blooming or visibly raised black levels. I normally use Custom or Standard picture presets with some minor sub-settings tweaks, with Brightness at 10 or 15 and all Eco features and Auto Brightness turned off. For HDR, I prefer to use Dolby Vision (DV) Dark or Bright depending on the movie/show. HDR10 sometimes seems better (more consistent), but Dolby Vision is usually very good and provides more picture depth/contrast appearance, although some bright areas can sometimes be too bright in DV Bright, and some dark areas can be too dark in the DV Dark mode. The video motion is very good in all picture modes, including sports and slow panning scenes. The sound quality from the TV speakers is surprisingly good and spatial. As for watching native 8K content, the HDMI-4 input must be used (and set to 8K) to display any native 8K resolution content. I first tried to connect my old Windows 10 PC with an RTX-2080 video card, and it could connect at maximum 4K resolution to the Z9K and not at 8K. Nvidia states that in addition to HDMI 2.1 output capability, Display Stream Compression (DSC) capability is also needed to display 8K resolution via an HDMI 2.1 capable cable. A Windows 11 PC with RTX-3080 easily connected to the Z9K at native 8K resolution. 8K and 12K videos from YouTube (places, animals, nature, etc.) played smoothly in 8K (8K/4320 confirmed both in the Z9K input info and in YouTube settings) and showed amazing picture quality (details, vibrant colors, contrast, depth) even though the max average streaming bitrate (as shown in Windows Task Manager) was only around the full bitrate for 4K streaming (while using 1 Gbps ethernet connection). Switching the PC output to 4K resulted in almost as great picture quality of the same 8K and 12K videos from YouTube played at 4K. Gaming on the Z9K is not what I have planned to use this TV for, but I was curious how it would perform with playing video games on a Windows 11 PC with RTX-3080. The Elden Ring game with maxed out settings looked brilliant in 8K using the Vivid picture mode at a mid-level brightness. RTX-3080 could play it at only 30 fps in 8K, but it was still smooth and without any ghosting or picture/motion issues. Highlights looked incredibly vivid. When playing in 4K, Elden Ring still looked almost as beautiful/sharp and still played very smoothly, now at 60 fps and with better gaming response. Other games, like Apex Legends, played well in Game mode in 4K at 120 Hz with fast gaming response and no ghosting or other motion issues. In summary, the Z9K is one of the best 85” TVs for watching 4K content in most use-case scenarios, while also being able to natively display even better picture quality of 8K content. However, there is no best or perfect TV for all uses, conditions, contents, or preferences. Some other TVs may be better suited for lower-quality/lower-bitrate content and/or in below 85” TV sizes. OLED TVs have much more precise individual pixel control with stronger contrast/micro-contrast and deeper/true black colors, which may also help improve watching lower-quality/lower-bitrate content and look great with good quality content. Viewing angles are also much better on OLED TVs, which can be important if viewing from farther off center. However, OLED TVs may not be best suited for watching TV in some bright rooms, may have too aggressive auto dimming in some situations (e.g., during long bright scenes and/or static logo displays), and can possibly suffer from burn-in in some usage scenarios. Some more recent TVs may also provide better picture processing and upscaling for improved picture of lower resolution and/or lower quality content. I would rate this Z9K overall performance at this time as 8.5/10, with my recommendation based on the above considerations.

This tv although very expensive is everything & more than I expected it’s just the best one I’ve ever owned

Amazing visual feast OLED like clarity and contest plus brightness No blooming Wow!!

Got the tv in and the picture and colors are fantastic. Very good looking if you are mainly into movies. Unfortunately the pixel response time isn’t the greatest when it comes to gaming, causing there to be less smooth motion. In standard mode there is way too much input lag which is alleviated with game mode but then the pixel response time issue is there leading to blurring of games at times.

Great picture, after researching many TVs I would highly recommend this This brand and model, Due to weight, price and warranty. I did have it professional installed.

I got the z9k under a warranty claim for my z9j, this tv is better. The backlight backlight master drive is one of the best peices of tech that sony has developed. I upgraded my z9d tonthe J series becuase i needed a bigger set, the BMD really helps woth bloom amd haloing. The color and depth on this set is top notch

Purchased a Sony Bravia TV- picture quality is amazing

It's good.. but for the price, go with an OLED for better picture quality. It's considerably less expensive than this mini-LED.

Tv was installed by best buy 12-23-22, Next day video took 5 min to come. G squad came out advised TV would have to be replaced. It (1-5-23) now takes 20-25min to come on, Have Not heard from BB yet. The sony z9k is special order item, Things happen But how BB handles this is what counts,

Considering that I purchased the tv 11/27/23 and that I haven’t received it yet nor will anyone contact me about the status of the hold up or even that the bill is due soon I can’t really give more than 1 star hopefully this will get someone’s attention to this matter.

You can put a downpayment on a house or buy this TV.. you decide! The quality of this TV is amazing but do you really need that much performance...? You have to remember the further away you sit from the TV the more the 8k screen won't matter. Also if you're buying an 85 inch TV, it might be time to consider a projector.
