What a way to celebrate Mario's 30th anniversary! At first I thought I would exclusively play other users' creations rather than make my own, but now I realize that making your own levels is what makes the game a blast to play! I loved being able to make my own challenging levels and being able to play the hundreds of levels made by other people! If you have a Wii U, you owe it to yourself to buy this game. If you don't own a Wii U, then I would strongly recommend buying one just to play this game. It's that good.

Seeing the demo first off prior to its release made me fall in love and land a spot as one of its first 'pre-order'ees. Excellent creative value as well as bringing the nostalgia of all 30 years into one game was very well executed, and a great choice on Nintendo's part! A pure 'must have' for any collector, Nintendo fan, or Mario lover; this game brings that first time feel back to this old classic, in many more ways than one! Bravo, Nintendo...Well done!

    Solid Mario Making Tool

Super Mario Maker is a very fun tool to use to make your very own Super Mario levels. The game is very easy to pick up and play and/or create. You start out with a base set of items to create with (blocks, goombas, koopas, etc) in the Super Mario Bros and New Super Mario style, and then if you play for at least five minutes a day you unlock more items and play styles to make. It takes about 9 days to unlock all of the timed material. The game also makes fun use of amiibos. Scanning your amiibo into the game unlocks a costume of the character that is playable only in the 8bit SMB style. You can also use some of the Animal Crossing amiibo cards (so far I've only used Digby). It is relatively easy to find random levels to play online, however, it is difficult to find your friends. First you have to find a level of theirs and then you can follow them. That process could have been a bit more streamlined. As you upload levels and people star them you gain more slots to upload levels to. However, you'll have to make the levels really good, or creative to get them noticed if you don't have an immediate audience. The game also includes premade levels made by people at Nintendo and other people from the game industry. These levels are played through the 10 Mario mode where you get ten lives to complete a set of levels. Once you beat all of the premade levels you unlock some wonderful goodies. There is also the 100 Mario mode where you have 100 lives to complete user made levels. There's a Beginners course with easier levels, an intermediate difficulty mode and then an Expert mode with very hard user levels. Completing this mode unlocks the amiibo costumes, so thankfully if you don't have all the amiibo or don't want them, you can still get their content.

    Super Mario for non-platformer fans

Honestly, I was on the fence for a while about Super Mario Maker before I "accidentally" talked myself into getting it; while I'm generally a Nintendo fan and I like some of the Mario games I've played, my platforming skills are pretty close to nonexistent beyond a fairly basic level. But I got Super Mario Maker anyway, on the premise that I could at least have fun tooling around in the Create mode, and maybe I could design courses to hone my own skills. It turned out I didn't need to worry. There are PLENTY of courses online for all skill levels, and some of the most intimidating-looking courses are also the most gleefully straightforward to get through. There are even some makers who design courses which basically play themselves and get you safely to the end with minimal difficulty. (Of course, there are incredibly tough courses too ...) The creation mode is nicely set up to ease people into course creation. When you first load up Super Mario Maker, there's just a basic set of course elements to work with; spending five minutes or so creating a course queues the next set of elements to unlock, and they're "delivered" either the next day that you play, or (if you spend long enough working on a course with the available elements) while you're building. So over the course of nine days or so, you'll unlock everything there is to work with in terms of blocks, enemies, power-ups, vehicles, sound effects, and themes. And of course you can upload the courses you make to the Internet for other people to play ... but, you have to be able to clear your own course before you can upload it, and you can only have so many courses online at a time (10 to start with). It's really all nicely done, cleverly arranged, and a LOT of fun, whether you're making your own courses or playing those made by others. I love this better than any of the regular Super Mario platformers, and I highly recommend it.

This is probably one of Nintendo's most creative games in a while and shows that the Wii U still has potential. Take Mario Paint and replace the painting with blocks and mushrooms. The possibilities for designing levels is endless. You can make courses from Super Mario Bros to New Super Mario Bros U. Base your designs on movies, games, or just make a standard course. The controls are pretty simple to understand and use, but a bit sensitive at times. I'm sure that's just something to get used to, and doesn't take away from the fun at all. It's really quick and easy to switch between building your level to testing it out, which makes the whole trial and error process that much faster. You can also download or play other player's games online (it upload your levels for people to play), which I love. There are some really awesome creations out there. The package is neat, which includes an idea book for inspiration. Truly a masterpiece of the decade.

I’ll have to admit, I was not terribly excited about a major Nintendo release that was mainly about me doing all the work. Yuck! How wrong I was! Even if I never ever made even one level with this game, it would be a pretty magnificent purchase. The game play for this Mario title is literally endless as it gives you access to countless and endless levels from other creators. Again I was worried that the other levels would not be as much fun, but I was shocked to find out that I loved playing other people’s levels! Not to mention the fact that Nintendo themselves put out some levels on the game that you have never seen before. They are kind of like ten minute Mario Level puzzles from different eras in Mario gaming that you have never seen before. And all of them are a complete blast. Let’s talk about making levels. You will be surprised to see how easy it is to create the levels as well as how addicting it is. I would have not thought that myself, having done other level creators in other games. But, leave it to Nintendo to find a way to make even a level creator tutorial fun. Seriously you will be coming back each day eager to complete a new level tutorial just for fun (and to see what new level creator piece you have unlocked). Also, it should be noted that these levels you create are then put up on Nintendo’s site, and people get to rate how good your level is. Again, you will find yourself anxiously awaiting the days vote tally to see where your level ranks among the greats. And there are some greats! The greats that I am talking about are the user created levels that will simply knock your socks off with how much fun they are to play. They are just super creative ways to build a Mario level that you would have never thought of. They are kind of like masterpiece playable versions of really good fan art. All in all this is one of those great endless games from Nintendo that will be forever cherished as a little Nintendo gem, I believe, for generations to come. Way to go Nintendo!

Nintendo seems to have a special knack for taking their beloved franchises and making them fresh again - both for those who loved playing them growing up and new generations of video game fans. Super Mario maker nails this formula perfectly, with an incredible blend of fan service, creativity, fun gameplay, and new possibilities. Gameplay essentially involves creating custom Mario levels across all ages and versions of the franchise (with the understandable exception of the 3D entries) and then sharing and playing these levels. The volume of playable content is huge and limited only by the collective creativity of fans worldwide. And while the quality of uploaded courses obviously varies greatly, Nintendo has curated lists to help with discovery. There are also fun modes such as 10 Mario challenge which sets up the player with a selection of courses and 10 lives with which to get through them. Where the game really shines, however, is in the course building mode. Nintendo has managed to provide an editor which is both intuitive and powerful, and levels (or any portion thereof) can be instantly tested without ever leaving the editor. It's a seamless experience that will immerse you for hours. Graduated delivery of new content over the first few days of gameplay help to introduce the player to the depth of options available without overwhelming them. For long time fans and new gamers alike, this is a must have title to let you enjoy countless hours of Mario gameplay while unleashing the creativity in tomorrow's great game level designers.

Very cool to be able to easily make your own Mario levels. It takes some time to unlock everything, and some patience to design and test your level many times. The downside is many people think it's cool to make levels as hard as possible, and a lot of the player-made online levels you can play feel cheap or frustrating and just not the Mario magic you come to expect from Nintendo. But you can find some cool ones that capture the same feel and are made just right. The other downside is the lack of some Mario games from the series' history, instead focusing on just a few styles. Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2, and Wario Land themes would have been great. Some items have been added thanks to DLC, so they may still introduce more items, characters, and themes that way in the future. Amiibo support is cool and almost all if not all amiibo are supported. This is a great time waster, in a good way. It really can help you think like a developer and help you learn level and game design without having to worry about making assets and coding yourself.

I would enthusiastically recommend this game to you if: 1) You love or have loved playing any 2D Super Mario Bros. games, and / or 2) You enjoy creating things. This game offers an enormous amount of tools to build creative levels -- the stuff of platforming dreams or nightmares (you choose which). Being able to share levels means that you can follow your favorite creators and never have a lack of quality Mario to play. You can also spin the roulette wheel and see what you get with a random assortment of levels from around the world. And if nothing else, this game will give you newfound appreciation for the talented level designers who work for Nintendo, as you struggle to craft a balanced level that offers fun, engaging, challenging gameplay (with no frustration). The only limit here is your imagination -- if you love to create things, you'll have fun with this game. It's a love letter to Mario fams amd to anyone who's young at heart and rrady to invest in the joy of creation.

Ever wanted to make your own 2D Mario levels? Of course you have! You're just in luck because Mario Maker is the perfect game for you. The ease of putting together Mario stages from scratch is insanely intuitive and actually quite fun. It's simple enough for a six year old to pick up the gamepad and have fun putting together stages with ease while still providing an extensive amount of tools and options which add that extra bit of depth older players would enjoy. Don't feel like making stages and just want to play through the millions of user created stages that players have uploaded online? That's perfectly cool too! They make it extremely fast and easy for you to just go through a set of user uploaded levels filtered by difficulty. Going through this mode even gives you the chance to unlock some neat Nintendo goodies. Great game for the whole family with countless hours of Mario fun.

What can be said about this game that hasn't already been said? Probably nothing but it must be said this is the Mario game everyone has wanted to play, I mean who hasn't always wanted to make their own Mario level? This game teaches you a lot about how game design works, sometimes you'll try something in a level and realize it doesn't work so you're constantly tweaking your courses. If you own a Wii U this is an absolute must have game, it actually utilizes the gamepad which is something a lot of Wii U games have trouble doing. Super Mario Maker is an excellent game that everyone should own because not only can you make your own levels (in 4 different Mario styles) but you can also play thousands of levels that are posted online it's a unique experience that all ages will enjoy!

"Super Mario Maker is the best game of 2015!!!" Super Mario Maker was released on September 11, 2015. That day, it was the moment of truth to all Mario fans. They where waiting for a Mario game where you can create your very own levels. Is this game one of the best games ever made? Well, I bought it on release date and I can say if it is or not! *sigh* Where should I start? Super Mario Maker is the game where you can create your very own levels!!! When you play this game for the very first time, you'll play an unfinished course. If you jump on it OR wait to the staircaise for a while, EDIT TIME!!!!! You get to use several tools to complete it and after playing and finishing the level, you can do whatever you want with the tools you have! As you use these tools and create more levels, you'll get more tools in a few minutes later! Once you unlock all the tools, you can then use your ultimate imagination to create the best levels!!! Do you want to create a castle filled with Thwomps? Possible. Do you want to create para-versions of many different enemies? Possible. DO YOU WANT TO PUT MORE THAN 1 BOWSERS AND PUT THEM OUTSIDE THEIR CASTLE!? Possible!!! Just use your imagination and you'll be OK! You can stack up enemies (looking at you Goomba Tower), you can put different enemies into Warp Pipes and more! You can also choose 4 different styles: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U. Each of them have their own physics and graphical style. Choose the one you want and create a level that suits it more than the others! Choose which style you want for you course to have: Ground, Underground, Underwater, Ghost House, Airship and Castle. All of them are usable in all styles. If you're playing in the Super Mario Bros. style, you can even choose the Mystery Mushroom to transform into any of the 99 characters you want! The Wierd Mushroom... I swear I haven't seen an item funnier than this in the Mario series!!! What does it do? It gives Mario Luigi's abilities; he jumps higher but he stops slower! It only appears in the Super Mario Bros. game style randomly in the place of a Super Mushroom. The Big Mushroom is a special item which makes Mario bigger and more powerful! It also gives enemies elements from Mario himself!!! Sooo funny to see a Goomba with Mario's mustache and hat!!!!! Next is the Course World. Here, you can play the 100 Mario Challenge, see others' courses or see other makers. When you play someone's course, make sure to star it if you like it! And don't forget to comment if you want to! In 100 Mario Challenge, there are 3 difficults: Easy, Normal and Expert, with the last one being unlocked by beating the Normal difficult at least once. Each time you beat a certain difficult, you'll unlock a random costume! However you unlock specific costumes on each difficult; you have to change difficult when you unlock them all on a certain difficult! The Easy Mode gives you extremely easy levels and you play up to 8 levels. The Normal Mode gives you levels that are a little bit difficult and you also need to complete 16 courses. The Expert Mode gives you levels that are a pain in the butt and you need to complete 16 courses. I swear Expert Mode is so freaking dreadful! Also you have 100 lives to beat these levels! You can earn up to 3 lives on each course, but you also get them ONLY when you complete the course! If you aren't connected to the internet, you can play the 10 Mario Challenge, which is basically the same as the 100 Mario Challenge, except this time you have 10 lives and you play Nintendo's very own courses! If you beat all the 10 Mario Challenge levels, you'll unlock 4 of the Nintendo World Championship levels! If you complete all 4 of them, you'll unlock a secret that I won't tell!

I was not sure what to think of this game until I got it and played it. There is a lot packed into this game with more to come. Creating your own Mario levels with new items unlocking everyday is awesome but what makes it better is uploading them for other people to play. You also get a chance to play other people's levels as well in different modes like 100 Mario Mode, which gives you a chance to unlock even more. This is a great game that is easy enough to play for the younger gamers and has enough built in even for the more experienced gamers. I highly recommend it especially for those of us who grew up playing the original Super Mario games on the Nintendo and Super Nintendo.

This is an incredible achievement in gaming. With this game, there are seemingly infinite amounts of levels to play, create, and edit. The editing tools are simple and explained well, so there is no huge learning curve when it comes to making levels. The community of creators is huge and many of the levels are very clever and fun to play. It is also easy to save your favorite courses that someone else has made. I feel that the only downside is that it isn't very easy to follow what your friends are doing and you have to search them out, which can be tedious. Overall, this is an excellent game that could potentially last forever with an ever expanding amount of content.

I thought I'd like this game more for playing than creating, since I didn't think of myself as all that creative. However, I've now found that finding good levels online is pretty difficult, but making my own levels is actually really fun. I'm coming up with ideas I'd never had, and using what I come across in online play to learn what makes for good and bad level design. The tools are super easy to pick up and use, and the gameplay is perfectly reminiscent of the old Mario games the levels represent. If you want endless levels of SMB, SMB3, SMW, and New Super Mario Bros, buy this. It's an incredible value and I still have so much left to unlock.
