vertical strip at the edge of the screen

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Except for the defect I'll mention, the overall quality, including color and sound, is OK but the defect comes too soon and is too severe. I give it a 2-star rating instead of 1-star because I purchased it with a discount (you-get-what-you-pay-for). The defect: after less than a month of delivery there came vertical strip throughout the right edge of the screen with varying degree of obviousness (showing grey strip or much less saturation). It becomes much more obvious recently and shows an 1-inch solid color strip when there is a static uniform scene, such as the blue strip in a red scene as shown in the attached picture.

Very poor experience so far, from a TCL fanboy!

But I felt I needed to warn some other customers because an item like this isn't exactly easy to return to the store. I have been using TCL TV's for about 4 years now. My very first 4K tv was a TCL and it is still going strong. Since then I have purchased a couple more over the years without any issues whatsoever. Unfortunately, my experience with the 75S434 model has been nothing but trouble. The picture quality is OK, but just OK. The HDR is not very impressive either. But I guess not that big of a deal with $500 sale price. And the Android interface is mostly snappy an very easy to use. However, I purchased a VIZIO soundbar for the TV recently and I was getting terrible audio delays with both the HDMI-ARC as well as the optical input. I have another HDTV and it is a non-issue with the same soundbar hooked up. I also have a Yamaha receiver and the HDMI ARC could not communicate with the TV. Finally, after having so many issues related to the HDMI-ARC it seems that that the HDMI ports themselves have stopped working. My XBOX ONE X and XBOX 360 both work fine but none of the three HDMI inputs is detecting an input. I also a plugged in a Fire Stick 4K but to no avail. It is evident that the HDMI ports are shoddy and therefore the entire quality of the TV is in question. Since this has happened I have tried to call TCL for support but they have been unavailable due to outages. As a result, I have been unable to speak with any representative about the issues I have encountered. So far I have been very disappointed. I have literally only had the TV one week and it has gone defective. There are far better 75" TV's out there. I would suggest not going cheap and instead buy the more premium TCL models.

Picture is OK. Horrible Experience.

The Android TV OS sucks. It’s very non-responsive and very confusing. It has 3-4 different areas you have to visit in order to fully customize your Home Screen. There are no settings for audio output. Setting it up was difficult as it wouldn’t recognize my Ethernet cable, the same CAT-6 cable I was using a mere 5 minutes prior with my AppleTV. The settings page is awkward, confusing, and poorly developed. Speaking of audio output, I use a fiber optic audio cable to go to my sound bar, and there’s a distinct audio sync issue when used. As a result, you can’t use any external speakers coupled with the internal speakers. You hear “doublespeak” attempting to do so. The remote is flimsy, poorly made and the key placement is poorly designed. The IR receiver on the TV is poor at getting signals from the remote that are off to the side only slight off center. Picture quality is reasonably good I admit, especially for the $500 I paid for it, but the experience of using it is making that $500 less and less a bargain by the day.

Worse Sound Output, Not worth the Hassle

Picture quality is good. But none of the sound output from Optical to Old adapter to HDMI ARC work. Tried in 3 different soundbar, receiver systems but no luck. Those soundbars working fine on other TVs with same input. TCL customer support non existent as tried to call today sunday day time. Pay little extra buy a different brand as not worth the headache. This is going back to Best buy return

When i purchased this it was from black Friday. We brought it home. When we put it up i seen a mark on it think it was because of having google assistance. My son can and said it was checked. We didn't do anything to it. Took the tv back and the gentlemen that took care of us said that they couldn't return it because the box was wet and their was finger prints on the screen. We explained that it was on our trailer and it rained. The fingerprints were from lifting it up on the stand. I talked to the manager and he said I'm sorry we can't except this. I told him i wanted to talk to someone higher up. When i called and spoke with someone. They took care of it for me. It did take for every to get the money. This isn't the first time we had this issue. So i will not purchase anything from them that is a majoe electronic.

Slow loading

This tv is remarkably slow when loading apps built into it. Hulu/Netflix takes 5-10 mins to load a title. I upgraded to this tv from a 55” hisense roku tv and that was lightning compared to this

Android TV operating system REALLY SUCKS

Sluggish expectations

But there are a couple of things that made me decided to return this TV and pay a little more. One, the smart features is horrible when I'm used to Roku which is much smoother than the Andriod TV. Secondly, I watch Youtube a lot and everytime I close the TV I have to relogin every single time. Not to mention it barely can play 4k videos at 60 frames smoothly. And lastly, the picture quality looks way too blurry. I ended up getting a 65" QLED TCL Roku TV and I couldn't be happier paying a few hundred more to be satisficed with. Just remember, you pay for what you get.

Dark spots on screen out of the box:

I knew that this was a budget purchase and I would be happy with it absent 4 dark spots size of nickels on the screen. This is particularly problematic for a purchase this size. If you do not own a vehicle large enough to return it, you have to figure out how to repackage it well enough to ship it safely. I own a higher model TCL 55" from almost three years ago and I am very happy with that one; this experience, however, has me reluctant to purchase a large TCL in the future. Note on 'Average' ease of use score: This is simply due to the TCL Android security vulnerability, which means I am reluctant to use the smart features out of the box until that is patched.

Android blocks certain apps that Roku does not.

I'm used to Roku and didnt even realize this was NOT Roku until I set it up. The layout took some getting used to. Plus, Android blocks certain "adult" apps so you can't even get those "channels". I don't appreciate the limitations... being told what I can and can't watch! We have enough of that nonsense and control issues in our every day lives with this Covid Crap!

The picture is not as nice as LG

The picture on my 10 year old LG was much better than this one new, so I returned and bought another LG.
