Fantastic External Drive for Most PC Gaming

Purchased this on sale at $239.99. Total Storage Size is actually 12.7TB. Previous reviews indicate this drive is 5400rpm, newer shipments run an updated model that states 7200rpm. https://smarthdd.com/database/WDC-WD140EDGZ-11B2DA2/85.00A85/ I bought this drive to store & play games off of and the drive serves that purpose well for 90% of PC games and PC emulated games. It only struggles with modern open world games like Elden Ring or Marvel's Spider-man Remastered. World of Warcraft & a heavily modded Bethesda game like Elder Scrolls/Fallout suffer as well. This is just a limit of most external HDD drives in general though and doesn't reflect poorly on the drives overall great performance for most other games. I have included screenshots from CrystalDiskInfo & CrystalDiskMark Scores from that drive at 86% full

As stated, this external drive has so much storage. Over triple what I've had in the past. I'm looking for reccomendations on what to store in it. Functionally, the device is perfect. Read/write speeds around 200mb/s, which could be better. I bought this device for $182 after a 15% hard drive trade in discount. Makes this an incredibly good deal! Please don't purchase it for more than $250, this thing goes on sale year-round. Also note that this external drive is shuckable- this means you can take it out of its shell and install it in a 3.5" drive bay, provided you tape off some very specific pins. Follow the guide on r/datahoarder for specific details!

Came with everything needed to use it. Got the drive on sale for $199 in November 2020. Excellent purchase for that price. Like my 12TB Easystore, this 14TB runs cool (5400 rpm) and quite. Got 12.7TB usable capacity after formatting under NTFS. Been buying Western Digital bare drives for years (they used to have 5 year warranties back in the day) as they've been much more reliable then Seagate's which used to fail constantly for me personally and at work. Hopefully these Easystore's will just as reliable.

This item has been great. It is fast and reliable. I was able to grab it on sale, which was awesome. Great for storing games, music, and movies. I purchased a 2 TB one of these about 10 years ago and its still kicking, so I am sure this 14 TB will be around for years. Total Space is 14 TB, but Windows breaks it down to slightly above 12.7

Easy setup, didn't use the WD software included as mainly using it as a duplicate backup drive. Same reliable transfer speeds as my old WD 4TB Book drive it replaced. Not too loud even being right behind my monitor on the desk.

These massive harddrives were a great buy on sale. They are very responsive even though they only have 5400rpm drive. However, that means they will last longer and generate less heat. I tested throughput and it was not much less than a 7200rpm seagate external, so that means it is limited by the USB3.1 speed.

At the time I bought this, it was a great price. The drives in these were durable and made great additions to my Plex server. If you are looking for cheap NAS storage, it is hard to beat these when on sale.

The unit was easy to set up. The capacity of it is a 14 TB external hard drive. I split the drive in half so that I could use the space for movies and pictures. It seems to have a low center of gravity so it stands up easy. The connections with simple and durable. The software made the connection to the computer convenient. I've had the unit on for two days straight and it doesn't seem to even get hot.

Excellent drive while a bit loud the internal drive features an enterprise class helium filled drive operating at 7200 rpm. The drive is more on the moderate speeds read and writing at an average of 153mb/sec. Great value for the capacity.

The drive itself is great and works without issues but the casing is horrible. The drive will get very hot with the original case on. I recommend taking the drive out and inserting the drive into the pc directly or have a separate encasing with a fan to keep the drive cool.

14Tb 199$ Black Friday Deal (Best HDD Deal so far by Bestbuy in 2022) - 7200 rpm. Saving speeds are pretty good, max was 250mb/sec from Nvme SSD. Colder then 2 years old WD My Book 8Tb - difference is 3 Celsius degree during common work: 38C vs 41C. Both staying strictly on cooler max speed - AC Infinity MULTIFAN S7, Quiet Dual 120mm USB Fan. Cons- warranty only 2 years. Will hope for the best.

Really nice speeds. I'm impressed by this drive. I've bought two Red Plus 12TB drives before. Those Red NAS drives are much more expensive than these external hard drives even though they are essentially the same thing if not better. I will never directly buy a NAS drive again because it's really easy to get one of these external drives that have Ultrastar drives in them. I was able to get this one for less than $200 so it's a really nice deal.

I found the external drive easy to set up however it didn’t come with a cable to attach to my computer, luckily I had one laying around but it’s a unusual cable to have. See picture of cable needed, the other end I’m using is USB, however I believe if you have one with the lightning end instead of USB it may be faster data transfer rates. You may want to look into which cable type is the fastest to use with it before hand and make sure you have it available as a port on your computer. The drive works fine as storage and backup and comes with some recovery software. Unfortunately I had just purchased some recovery software the day before.
