Customers praise Xenoblade Chronicles 2's deep gameplay mechanics, compelling story, and enjoyable battle system, along with its immersive world and excellent music. However, some users cite issues with the voice acting and occasional performance dips, particularly in handheld mode. The map interface also received criticism for being unclear and difficult to navigate. While some graphical challenges were noted, the overall experience is largely considered positive.

Great RPG that is half the learning curve of xenoblade chronicles X on the Wii U and is just as big of a journey with lots of characters to befriend and use in battle. If you have played the last two games you'll be familiar with everything it throws at you for the most part with only a couple different changes to the leveling mechanics and combat. The only thing I dislike is they still have some mundane fetch quests that are a pain to get through but you DONT have to do them. That's probably the best part about this game is the ability to not have to worry about grinding unlike previous entries and be able to just play the game organically and still be able to fight what comes at you in the main story missions. You still have to understand the battle system but you don't have to over level just to win.
They did add that whenever you complete side missions that the only way to add the exp from said missions is to sleep at an inn. Almost like FINAL FANTASY 15 except in 15 even defeating monsters in the field doesn't level you, here it does and it's only tied to the side missions. If you're looking for a great RPG pick this up. Worth the asking price!

The graphics are quite good especially if you like the anime style. At first the battle system seems too simple but you quickly learn that it's very complex, more so than it really needs to be. I recommend looking online as the in game tutorials don't explain it very well. It's also very long, at least 60 hours.

Rather than return to the foundation that X laid out, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 follows more closely in the steps of the original game with mostly great results. The gameplay is as engaging as ever, the world and characters are interesting, the music once again is amazing, and the story (while not amazing) keeps you hooked throughout the lengthy main quest.
However, there are some odd design choices and areas that really lack polish which leads me to believe that the game was rushed to meet the end of the year. The interface can be a pain to navigate, there are some bugs and optimization problems (had a softlock in the menus that lead to some lost progress), and the map and compass aren't always helpful leading to some "where the heck do I go?" moments.
One of the most annoying aspects of the game (and my second biggest complaint, first being that if the player character gets KO'd when the party gauge isn't filled enough you automatically lose the battle) is that the field skills that you need to advance in some of the sidequests are locked behind irritating RNG and grinding where you need the right blades with the right level skills to advance. Dragging your butt all the way to where you need to go for a sidequest only to discover that you can't advance because one of your skills happens to be one level off is insanely frustrating.
These drawbacks are disappointing, but Xenoblade 2 it's still very much worth playing if you're into JRPGs or enjoy the Xeno series. Plus the developers are working to patch out the map and interface problems and technical issues that I mentioned. Hopefully they'll do something about the field skill system too.

What some might love... and what some games today are missing. The gameplay is not something you master in 1 or 2 hours. Yes, there are auto attacks.. but the gameplay goes beyond that. There are hour long tutorials on youtube breaking down the gameplay... this is not zelda or skyrim.
The characters.... I can remember watching the trailer wondering "why did they change the art style." I still prefer the Wii U versions art. However the characters are actually very well done... that you probably won't mind as much.
The voice acting can be some what annoying... of course that is all subjective. Not everyone is going to feel the same about that. I also find the background music (sometimes) a little annoying. Luckily you can turn it down.
Good characters, Big open world, Solid but different gameplay
This game is not for everyone... and that's not a bad thing. Some people might be put off by auto attacks... but if you dig deep enough... you will realize there's more depth to the gameplay than pressing a button.

Old school JRPG with a new school twist.

If you've played any of the Xenoblade titles (not to be confused with the Xenogears or Xenoblade games), you've pretty much played this one. But for those of you who haven't, here you go: A single player MMO-tinged JRPG with tons of anime style, moderately open world exploration, and a fun, crazy storyline that has as many twists and turns as the JRPGs of old.
This game's style in particular relies on the "Blades" in combat, which are not swords but humanoid (and occasionally beastly) monsters that have various powers used to fight off baddies. Think of them as sentient pokemon that wield strong magic and weaponry meant to take down armies.
Story is pretty standard, even with the twists and turns. Boy meets girl, girl turns out to be a magic weapon, and they try to save the world. Just like how our parents met, right?
Music is 10/10, A+, superlative, as to be expected by Mitsuda at this point. A genius at his craft, possibly the medium's best at this moment.
Graphics, on the other hand, are a mixed bag of Switch-y goodness, with most everything resembling a very nice PS3 game, with some occasional pixelation when too much happens at once. If you've played Vita games on a PSTV you have basically played XC2.
All in all, a very good game and a lovely little JRPG-- which are few and far between nowadays. If you even remotely like the genre, go get it. You won't be disappointed.

Ok there are a few frame rate dips, a few pop ins when fast traveling for a few seconds, and the graphics take a dip every now and then to maintain frame rates. Now that the technical stuff is out of the way, let's talk about what really matters. Xenoblade 2 is the deepest JRPG to come out in 2017, it has a very intriguing story, likable characters, a gorgeous world and 10 kingdoms or lands to explore, but best of all, a super deep combat system and customization mechanic that will keep one entertained and busy for a plethora of hours. I have finished the game, the main story but I cant put it down, the end game content is amazing and every day I find a new unexplored area, more cutscenes to watch, and new gear to equip and acquire, as well as new super bosses. This game is so much fun for RPG players, and it will go down as one of the best, if not the best JRPG I've ever played.

This game is breathtakingly remarkable. I am over 80 hours in and finished the game with lots of stuff to do to fully achieve 100%. I have finished xeno 1 and X and loved both but this game has the best bits of both and masters over them in story and complexity. The story with no spoilers absolutely pulls on your heart strings and I have never experienced such an emotional roller coaster in my 40+ years of gaming. Monolith Soft I hope you are reading this as I have all gaming platforms, pc, ps4, xbox x and switch. This game has truly conquered them all with absolutely without trying. Haha I just hope I don't pass away before you release the next xenoblade :). The game does have some graphical glitches when played hand held to dock as resolution often stays grainy. Just restart game in docked mode sorts this out. The mini map needs some work and travelling. Although developers will patch soon.
Battle system - complex but superb
Story - amazing
Graphics - Good but not perfect - this is expected with Nintendo. Although games make consoles not graphics.
replayability - excellent
Music - breathtaking
Looking forward to expansion next year and hoping it carries on from end game and not a different era.

Overall, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a fantastic game. The world is incredibly interesting with all the land mass being on the backs of giant creatures called titans. The game does not have a whoel lot to do with previous Xenoblade games, but there are some shared elements. It is closer to the first Xenoblade Chronicles rather than Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Combat is fun, but the chatter between the characters during battles can become quite annoying. Character abilities can be customized, but there aren't any options for appearance customization if that is something you are in to.
Music is pretty good overall. Some tracks are amazing and some are just OK, but it all fits well with the world.
If you are in to JRPGs, this is a must buy.

After Xenoblade Chronicles X on the Wii U, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 returns to a more story centric game in line with the original Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii and New 3DS. The story in XC2 has great pacing and is interesting so it has that going for it. The combat is pretty complex and the tutorials don't do a great job of explaining it but if you get the hang of it, it's fun. The graphics look really nice. However, the game looks absolutely terrible in handheld mode as the resolution scales close down to 360p. The English voice acting is alright and there is also the option to use Japanese voice overs through a free download on the eShop, for those who prefer that kind of thing. Here's hoping Monolith Soft fixes that in a future patch. If you like JRPGs, give this a shot.

See the title. This is one of the best RPG available for Nintendo system. After Zelda, this surely takes the second place in RPG. This game has some performance issues in handheld mode but nothing major. Now the negative is out of the door, positives kicks in:
This game looks above average.
Great soundtrack.
For newcomers, combat takes time to adjust but once it is done, it's fun.
Story is very good.
A must buy for XC lovers as well as RPG gamer.

Wondeful story with amazing characters and enjoyable plot. The game has beautiful music, graphics and writing. Easy to lose track of time in this journey. I loved the game in the end. The story was fantastic, though it took a little bit to really pick up, and the battle mechanics were much better once they were fleshed out a ways in. The only reason I can't rate this game any higher is because of terrible choices made by developers; and I mean choices that would make newer players of the series outright quit.
When exploring the large and stunning areas to get to your next location, you'll certainly run into enemies that are far higher than you in level, and I mean between 20-70 levels higher. This makes it very frustrating when you're just trying to progress to the next area, but you get ambushed by a high level enemy, or a group of them, and get one shot, having to start over from the last landmark.
Speaking of one shots, there are too many of them! In battles, mainly with bosses, but many smaller enemies can do it too, you will suddenly find your self from max health, to zero. That's not too bad, but in other instances, your whole party will go from max health to zero health out of nowhere. It is very frustrating especially when you have no control over it. The enemies/bosses that do these moves usually do them when their almost dead, so you know you either have to kill them as fast as possible, or you're dead.
Some final major issues are with navigation. The compass on top is not helpful in the slightest. When you have multiple objectives in the same direction, they will stack on top of each other making it impossible to tell how far away each objective is. The mini map is useless a lot of the time when expanded, it doesn't show much of the area. The only way to see where side quests are and the location of the main mission is to pull up the fast travel menu, scroll through all the areas until you find the one you are in. It's a giant hassle and takes quite a while to look through. Even knowing where you need to go is not enough sometimes. It's very easy to get lost and wander around for hours (I and mean HOURS) trying to find the right path to follow, this game does not have good leading.
Considering all these flaws, it'd be expected for me to give a lower rating, but the actual combat gameplay and the story alone are so well done that it offsets these issues. It really is a must-play in the end. Honestly it'd be worth buying a Switch for.

It's a shame that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (XC2) launched so late in the year, because it would otherwise have likely been a contender for many publications' RPG of the Year awards. It is certainly the most ambitious JRPG I've played in years, managing to integrate the compelling narrative from Xenoblade Chronicles with the strong world-building and scale of Xenoblade Chronicles X. Happily, a player will need no familiarity with those earlier games to enjoy this one, since the story is entirely unique.
With regard to the gameplay, the battle system is the strongest so far in the Xenoblade series, and indeed one of the more engaging JRPG battle systems crafted so far. Watching previews did not do it justice, as I feared it would be cluttered and difficult to follow. While playing, however, mechanics are slowly introduced to the player and quickly become, if not second-nature, easily grasped. The presence of environmental puzzles which require specific characters keeps the party makeup changing and adaptation of the player's strategy.
Finally, there are a handful of small issues. The game's resolution drops significantly in handheld mode, though it's never unclear or hard to see. In fact, a sharpness filter is applied to the visuals which ends up making it look a bit different, which I like but may be disliked by some. Additionally, tutorials cannot be rewatched so players are advised to take screenshots when those tips appear on-screen. Lastly, while the environmental and creature design is uniformly excellent, some of the characters veer in fan-service territory. This is a bit disappointing for a series that has historically offered a more conservative approach to character design, but hardly a big deal - characters are all well-developed, so some elements of the character visual design is the only shortcoming in this regard.
I would strongly recommend this game to anyone looking for a consistently engaging, beautiful world to explore. Similarly, folks looking for a fascinating story packed with compelling characters will be overjoyed to have another massive epic that can be played at home on their television or on the go.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was my first experience with JRPG, in fact, even with a true RPG. I never enjoyed turn-base combat in games so I usually avoided them. I started looking into Xenoblade when there weren't as many games on the Switch, and this game had been compared to Breath of the Wild, which is possibly my favorite game.
Xenoblade 2 is huge Open-World. I don't remember how long it took me to beat it, but I'm sure I put in 80 hours taking my time through the game and completely most of the side quests. The locations are all gorgeous! And the music is among my favorite of any game I've played, it is a great quality experience.
If you're like me, new to turn-based RPG's, then don't worry, the game is easy to get into. As far as 'turn-based', it's not like older RPG's where you weren't able to move around, or it switched to a new battle screen when you fight.. Xenoblade gives you the ability to move around freely, and your character will simply continue attacking. As you press different attacks, it will switch at the next time your character attacks. It's less about skill of timing like Zelda Breath of the Wild, but more about strategy and leveling up before taking on a stronger enemy. The complexity of attacks between your blade and driver are the most difficult thing, but also to most fun. You collect blades (powerful assistant characters) throughout the game, and each one has different skills.
I really enjoyed the story of the game, but it is at times a bit cheesy, kind of in the same genre as a lot of Anime. The DLC on the other hand, is actually darker and more serious I think. The gameplay is completely different but an awesome addition to the game.
Overall, If your like big huge adventures with technical gameplay, you'll really enjoy the game. The story is very interesting, it can get pretty deep/dark at times, great for me, but maybe a bit much for young children. My only downside is that although I really really like all the characters in the game, I feel like they went way overboard on the Female character designs. Many of them are partial to mostly naked. There aren't any sexual themes if I remember correctly, but even the main girl Pyra (on the cover) is basically in underwear and has an enormous chest. Spoiler free, she has different outfits/versions later that show more in different areas.
