Amazing sound, but very confusing set-up instructions. No manual included, so you have to download it. Yamaha may know what they're talking about with their feature descriptions, but they're not clear, and Yamaha doesn't define them well. I had to search Google to find out what each feature does, and the best way to enable them. One major drawback is that if you're connected to cable (Spectrum), and run it through the receiver, you need to make sure that you switch back the "scene" to the cable box (scene 1) - otherwise, nothing. I've tried to figure out how to make that the default, but no luck. So if we're watching a streaming service (scene 2) or blu-ray (scene 3) and forget to switch back to scene 1...the other half isn't happy !

Upgraded from a tsr-7850.. didn’t think that it would be much of an update,,, boy was I wrong.. right out of the box it worked great.. better sound and picture.. easy and fast setup. All the features I was looking for and more. Nice clean look, quality build, very satisfied.. although now I want to see or hear the next model up….

My second Yamaha receiver. Works very well for surround sound system, and separate audio in remote room. Gives plenty of power for sub and 5 channels of the system.
Was available and would allow Sirius/XM to be pulled from the Internet (with subscription). Less expensive than some other choices.

I have been a Yamaha fan for years and so it was an easy choice to pick this AV receiver. It sounds as good as it looks. I am having a little issue seeing the smaller screen on the front panel. Other than that, it is a great unit.

Bought this unit to replace our Yamaha RX-V685 that stopped working. Loved the easy setup and new menus to customize our sound experience. The new design is aesthetically pleasing as well. Currently using the 4K functionality and excited that this unit is 8K ready.

The performance is every bit as spectacular as its looks. Powerful output, drives my Klipsch Ref speakers to the hilt, setup works perfectly unlike the Denon I brought back which constantly disconnected from the set up menu. Would definitely recommend.

This receiver has a good sound. It has easy set up with average room sound correction program, but it does work. This is a good receiver for the price, not high end but the good for the price.

Great receiver, I have a 5.2.2 setup and this works great for that; I will say you need to make sure to setup the receiver to get the most benefits. This can be confusing, I did find a great resource online "YPAO lost manual", which walked me through all the steps. I also found the flat DSP setting to be best for carpeted rooms, along with crossover set at 60 hertz for my front larger two bookshelfs (set as small in options). Play with these settings as well. The remote is large and mostly only used for the setup, I would recommend the MusicCast app as well, if only to adjust the settings easier without having to use the remote.

The unit works well for what I wanted. I use it to drive my 5 ceiling speakers through an eARC HDMI link.
However, the user guide is pretty much useless. And after a month I still can’t get any reaction out of the remote’s “setup” button, to name one.

I am an Anthem and then Denon & Marantz guy. I also like Onkyo and Integra really well. This was my first try with Yamaha beyond just a demo. I really liked some things about it, but I just never was able to settle in with it and sold it after a couple months. I still felt it was very solid, just not for me.
I feel like this is an odd spot in the range. I think it would be wiser to go with a v6 for less money, or go higher up in the Aventage range, maybe. On the lower end better value may propel this to 4.5 or 5 stars, or going up a true premium product may carry the day.

Really like the sound quality of this new receiver. Very clean and crisp. Have it connected to a 5.1 inwall Yamaha speaker setup and a SVS subwoofer. Liked the idea of being able to update my system in the future to a Atmos or 7.1 setup. Had to get a new receiver because my old Yamaha receiver amp was having issues. So I updated to this one. It takes awhile to setup this receiver…it is different than the previous Yamaha receiver I had. The sound quality of this new receiver is excellent to my ears. I know there are several firmware updates being promised by Yamaha that will make it even more cutting edge in the near future. These are not affecting me at this time with my present setup. This new receiver has a very clean look to it that I find pleasing.

Very easy to set up with lots of available inputs. This was purchased to replace an old Sony AV amp that wouldn’t do 4K HDR etc.
Only criticism of the unit is that the remote control is not backlit, which makes it difficult to use in a fully darkened home theater.

Had to upgrade from a RX V667 because it would only handle 1080p pass through video. Unit was several years old and still works like a charm otherwise. I am completely pleased with this upgrade and especially like the newer features like being able to access Spotify, Pandora, etc, right from the unit. It also automatically recognizes some of my components and turns them on automatically...ie. Nvidia Shield. I love it.
