QN 700
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The TV is excellent, it has a very nice picture quality. Using it as a monitor is not highly recommended as the image looks overprocessed, unless you use it at a decent distance, or as in my case, I tend to use multiview mode to preserve better quality when playing video games or PC use. I have had the opportunity to compare it to the LGQNED99 8K and I have to say that despite the LG having an average contrast, its quality and the options it gives when calibrating the image are superior to those of the QN 700. In any case, the QN 700 is currently the cheapest 8K TV on the market and in my opinion it looks much better than any Samsung Neo Qled 4k.

Best TV under $1000
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.4x better than 4k. 160PPI, the same as four 27" 4k monitors. Pros: Sharp, better colors than LED. ATSC 3.0 Ready. local dimming provides deeper blacks. Can play 8k content smoother from a USB/SD adapter drive than my 6-core PC. Plays HEVC and MKV files fine, even on a USB 2.0 drive. Cons: Only HDMI 2.1 (no Displayport 1.4s, thus can't use it for a PC monitor above 4k without a new graphics card) Other thoughts: I bought this Open Box in Excellent condition, for $752+ tax. The sale ended (6/25) a bit of the markdown for the Open Box models. I've been waiting for a relatively affordable 8k monitor, more or less for a few years. If you are planning on using it as a PC, just know that 8k monitors with displayport are just around the corner. Computex in June 2023 displayed an ASRock PG558KF which is a 55" 8k monitor that supports DP 1.4, at 60Hz. Many Displayport 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapters are sold online for $30-50, yet many reviews say they don't work, so it's not worth buying a HDMI-only TV, when I think DP has less handshake conversion issues with HDCP and other specs. If you are just using it as a TV, then it's totally fine. I would check out the store displays- the QN900C is the same family, slightly newer and larger, but compared to their own Samsung 4k , you can notice the difference. Some of the 8k content from Youtube codecs doesn't have the best compression quality (e.g. vp9, av1, but most of it is still noticeably better than the 4k content and at less relative bandwidth). The picture I took is of a still from a Nikon D800 timescape in RAW, thus is 8k even though it is not from a typical 8k video recording, thus is one of the sharper 8k videos (outside of RED). There are quite a few interesting 8k cameras, like the Sony alpha 7RV and Fujitsu X-H2.

Not true 8K but still good computer monitor
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is not a true HDR 8K TV. To be HDR 8K, each pixel should have the full range of brightness and dimness to comprise an image. But each pixel only seems to have half the number of steps between full dim and full bright. So to generate certain shades and colors between full bright and black, the pixels require 2 pixels, one that is brighter and one that is dimmer where the average between the pixels is the correct shade, color or value. For most shades and colors, this alternating pixel technique forms a diagonal patchwork that has a noticeable checkerboard effect. Images viewed up close look bad. This isn't noticeable with windows that are pure white and the text is black, as black text on a white background looks good and is true 8k pixel density with no grid pattern and clean edges on the text. This checkerboard effect for colors and shades is noticeable if you have the TV on your desk with the same viewing distance of a normal monitor. Viewing distances of 24 inches or 60cm, the dithering is highly visible and makes the colors/shades generated look very low quality. But, as said before, the resolution for text, capacity to display more information clearly on one screen, and image clarity is still far superior to a 4K TV. If you don't want to see the patchwork pattern, plan to sit greater than 36 inches or 90 cm from the screen. At a seating distance of 36 inches, it is a retina display, no visible jagged edges on text and no checkerboard effect. At 3 ft the 700B has much cleaner text, better looking more detailed images and still has a fantastically wider field of view than my old 43 inch 4K at 24 inches viewing distance. With the 8K 700B, just know what you're getting into, so you're not disappointed. It's not truly an 8K HDR. My best guess of what this display is doing is... instead of 8K number of pixels each capable of displaying a full range HDR10 1024 color steps per RGB element, they have two sets of pixels each set only capable of displaying 512 steps of information with every other pixel offset in capability by half a step. They combine the two simpler pixel values to achieve the more complex shades in between. I can hear the Samsung display engineers, "Who would sit that close anyway to be able to see that?" Well, clearly people who want to use it as a computer monitor would. The 700B is advertised as not just an HDR screen but an HDR10+ plus screen which is 10bit, but this does not seem to be the case as a non HDR image from my computer still requires dithering to achieve the commanded colors and shades. No other display makers are making a true 8K display at this size at this price point, so I'm going to keep it and just sit further back so I don't notice the dithering.

Posted .Robert,
We appreciate your thoughts on the picture quality of Samsung’s QN700B TV. If the image you’re seeing isn’t to your liking, there are several picture settings you may want to adjust.
Go to Home > left direction button > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Picture Mode
...and select the mode that best fits your usage:
1. Standard: Is the default mode suitable for general viewing environments
2. Dynamic: Makes the picture brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments
3. Eco: Provided to save energy
4. Movie: Suitable for watching TV or movies in a dark room
5. Filmmaker Mode: Provides source content just as the creators intended. If the image is defined as Filmmaker Mode, it’ll automatically switch to Filmmaker Mode while watching.
You can also fine-tune your picture with expert settings such as brightness, contrast, sharpness and more (All Settings > Picture > Expert Settings).

Could not be happier!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As the title says, I bought the QN700B from Best Buy and it is insanely good. If you see the specs and it says 60hz, that's only for 8k. 4k maxes out at 120hz, it has VRR and every other way to display for gaming, tested it on the PS5. The blacks feel almost as deep as my LG CX. I read a lot of random reviews, all that I could find, and most of them said the TV lags, this is untrue. After installing the initial update and allowing the TV to "settle in" it moves a bit smother than trying to navigate through my LG CX. The ability to pair a controller to the TV and use both XBOX Gamepass and GeForce Now via the built in gamehub is absolutely crazy. Movies, Anime and Games all look ridiculously good! For the price I could not ask for more. I am VERY happy with my purchase.

Q: QuestionIs this the last of the 55" 8K TVs from Samsung? I do not see this on the Samsung site as presently available. I ask because the new Apple MacBook Pro has an upgraded 8K HDMI port. A 55" 8K TV would work well in my set up ... 65" is too wide.

Q: QuestionHas anyone used this 55 inch tv as a computer monitor? Any ideas about how well it would perform as one?
Asked by Reyrey347.
- A:Answer I have a MSI 4090 RTX Gaming X Trio Geforce GPU and I specifically bought this TV for a gaming monitor. I couldn't be happier with the picture and performance. Once you go 8k, 4k looks like old school 1080p. Highly recommended

Asked by Zeke.
- A:Answer Is about the computer processor. On gaming it jumps up to 120. But is 8k not 4k. Huge difference. Get this tv. I love mine
