A: The Hz of an image is the frequency of the signal that is being sent to the TV. Although in this case, the term also refers to the frames per second the image is displayed at, on the panel itself. A 60Hz image is shown at 60 FPS, and a 120Hz image is shown at 120 FPS. The more frames per second, the smoother the motion (especially for fast action sports or movies) and the more of the signal you will see. -MrSamsung

A: The Information Bar on your screen that appears when you change inputs, channels on some cable boxes, or press the INFO button on the remote will display the incoming signal. Not all incoming signals will be 1080p resolution or 120Hz, so the television will process the signal and upconvert the signal to 1080p and 120Hz regardless of the incoming signal. If you see 720p/60Hz, that just means your incoming signal is 720p resolution cycling at 60Hz. The television will process that picture so that it's at the native resolution of - in this case - 1080p and 120hz. A: It's a numbers rating gimmick. Kind of how there has been an inflation of horsepower ratings on electric motors. Clear Motion Rate was developed to accurately measure how well an LCD or LED TV can depict fast-moving images. Previously, motion-clarity was calculated by the frame refresh rate alone.
