Better than the Watch4
I purchased the watch so I can leave my phone at home while exercising or playing golf. I wanted to be able to stream music using Verizon LTE. I used SiriusXM on my phone for years. I wanted something like that. I also wanted to be able to answer or make an important call. This phone seems to get it done. MUSIC Turns out Spotify’s prebuilt playlists are similar to SiriusXM’s channels I was able to find the type of music I like and not worry about creating playlists. I also can find all of my favorite songs and make my own playlist that way I don’t have to sync and keep track of .mp3 files anymore. I canceled my SiriusXM account. GOLF I was surprised to find most of Samsung’s Store golf apps compatible with the Active2 (Tizen OS) for yardage and shot tracking require the phone to be within Bluetooth distance which is 30ish feet even when the watch has LTE connection. Seemed like a logical assumption that the watch has a built in GPS and an internet connection they should all work without the phone. Well that’s what I get for assuming. Most real golfers know you will walk away from your cart more than that distance for various reasons during play. Without standalone capabilities when away from the cart you have to carry your phone with you to get the real distance. To me this defeats the purpose of loading the golf app on the watch. Anyway there are only a few apps that allow the watch to be a standalone device that can give you distances. GolfPad seems to work well as standalone. Samsung’s Watch4 which I returned had limited golf apps available for the in Google’s Play for Wear OS. I have experience using the new Samsung Watch4 and the Active2. The Active2 seems like a better choice. For several reasons. The Tizen OS has way more apps available. I was really surprised by the limited available compatible apps for the Watch4. Not to mention the Watch4’s battery was dead by lunch time. I returned it and picked up the Active2. I do not regret the swap. Keep in mind there are limitations even with LTE. I get the impression that smart watches and their apps are really designed to work within a short distance from your paired smart phone. Most everyday apps offer notifications only which is pushed from your smartphone phone when it is nearby. Even with LTE with no phone nearby aka (Standalone) internet based communications is almost nonexistent on the 2 Samsung watches I have used. Everyday apps like FB messenger and Google Chats\Hangouts just aren’t available as a standalone option. I assumed they would be… ☹. Yes you can take\make short calls and send and receive SMS texts. Which is ok. But in my opinion are used less and less every year. So in an emergency you will be covered but that’s about it. Both the Watch4 and the Active2 can overheat. This problem was way worse on the Watch4. I live in an high desert environment. I found when steaming using the LTE on the Active2 while exercising when its sunny at 100 degrees it can overheat and become unusable. I know that’s pushing it a bit. I did find if I turn the watch to the inside of my wrist so it’s out of the direct sunlight it didn’t overheat at the same temps. Anyway at 90 deg. it had no issues. This probably won’t affect most users. The Watch4 overheated unpredictably at all temps when streaming using LTE. I recommend the Active2 LTE if you are considering a Samsung Smartwatch.

Great overall smart watch
I have this white and I think it's a really great watch. I also on the Fitbit and why the Fitbit might do tracking in some areas great my Samsung do tracking and a lot of other areas that the feedback would make you try to pay for it just to track. With the ability to talk to people without having my phone next to me and it still listen to music on my watch has a lot of great features and I think it's well worth the price. Especially if you bike ride are you run or you somebody who forget their phone and lock the LTE works so great for me and save my life on a couple of bike rides when I got a flat tire and I was somewhere where I couldn't necessarily get on the bus. The only thing I really don't like about it is the battery life I used to have the Samsung Galaxy watch 46 mm with the mechanical rotating bezel. And that one lasted 3 to 4 days this new Samsung Galaxy watch active to last two to three days and only way I can get it to last 3 days if I'm doing nothing else with checking time and maybe wanted to exercise. Overalls the great experience I like the software version of the rotating bezel better than the hardware.

Samsung is LOSING iT
This is less of a review of the watch in particular and more about Samsungs lackadaisical approach towards its customers. Immediately after this watch went for pre-order on Samsung.com, on and around October 8th 2019, I placed my pre-order for 44 mm LTE Gold with Ship date of November 01, 2019. We are already on 3rd of November and the item still hasn't shipped. Now I am being informed by Samsung Customer Care that these watches are on backorder. What does that even mean? If one has pre-ordered a month in advance, how can their order be back-ordered? How does pre-ordering even make sense, if they are the ones to receive it later than the rest of the World ? The customer service is hopeless, even they don't know what is happening & end up giving false assurances. Now to the watch itself. Since, I wasn't able to have my pre-order timely delivered, I chose to pick the Non-LTE aluminum 44 mm Black version. To put it mildly, when compared to my Galaxy Watch 46mm this feels like a toy watch, does not feel premium at all. And battery life is sub-par. For a 4 weeks that I owned it, the battery with various settings and configurations barely lasted more than. The touch bezel is a brilliant innovation but same cannot be said about BIXBY. Bixby is allover the place, horridly unreliable. The strap on non-LTE is fine but again very plasticky and honestly, runs thinner end-end. Wish the strap was more like Galaxy Watch 46 mm where the original strap is wide towards the lug and then tapers, this watch is even throughout but very narrow and looks even tinnier on my broad wrist. Aesthetically, Samsung has a lot of work to do to make it feel & appear like a real watch ala Galaxy Watch. All in all, the overall ordering experience to the actual feel & aesthetics of GWA2 has been completely underwhelming. If Google s acquisition of FitBit does produce something spectacular then I am more than willing to jump the board. I don't like Samsungs attitude towards its loyal customers.
