A: I ordered the SAMSUNG SMARTTHINGS ADT SMOKE ALARM and found it does not connect to a regular SmartThings hub. I returned it and got the First Alert Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (ZCOMBO) which works nicely. Surprisingly, Best Buy sells the ADT version but not the First Alert ZCOMBO one. I got the ZCOMBO on line at Lowes. I hope that helps.
A: I just purchased 8 smoke detectors and 4 carbon detectors the manual says they have a 9 to 10 year life just like your regular detectors. Which was one of the reasons I bought these over the nest system. They only work with the ADT smartthings hub. I purchased the hub off eBay for 80 bucks. I had no issues with connections to the hub or any connections problems aferwards. My home is 5k sq ft.
